Superb solos from both Jonathan and Will - hugely inspirational. I rate JK as being one of the amongst the most innovative performers of improvised music around, and jazz as a genre is greatly enriched by his wonderful, lyrical playing.
I finished my practice yesterday feeling pretty good about my progress. Then I got on line and listened to some Peter Bernstein and saw a link to this song. I had never heard Jonathan before. Wow. I need to practice more. So many wonderful, melodic ideas in one piece. At least it's clear he practices a lot from the shots of the back of his guitar neck - the finish is worn off across most of it.
Amazing ! I saw them live in my home-town in Lyon, France and it was one of the best moments i had in my life. I advise anyone to go and see JK and his mates !!!

noah becker In the 7 section of Will's solo it sounds like they pedal on G- and Bb- and only start playing the full harmony again when Jonathon switches back to the 21 vamp.

There are slight likenesses in tone between him and metheny but you can't say they sound similar! The note choices and phrasing choices are completely different! Open your ears
Schön zappaesk. Aber Kreisberg ist mir zu festgelegt. Werner Neumann is it! Wenn ich das höre, merke ich, was für ein verdammt guter Jazz-Komponist Zappa war. Der hat solche Tunes einfach mal so rausgehauen, konnte aber auch anders. Aber Kreisberg ist okay.
@NineTeenAyeDeeDee You gotta love it, he says Kreisberg is mechanical and soulless and "Metheny-esque" and basically insults Jon's playing, but if you go to NineTeenAveDeeDee's page, his music is the most mechanical, soulless garbage I have ever heard. He disses himself enough with those videos, but thought I would at least retort a bit since the comment was so baseless and hypocritical
i dunno.... the phrasing was uninspired, and he was playing almost exclusivly 1/8 notes in his solo....his persona is also very methenyesque...sterotypical mechanical jazz
Although I don't understand why you don't like his group, there's a video playing with Ari Hoenig which is also amazing. In case you haven't come across it.
Will Vinson only shows everybody that he has full freedom in 21/8. Jonathan nails it too with his own unique style, but Will plays it like he doesn't even care. And that's something!
@kkjhhkjhkj steve lehman is really nothing like will vinson. Steve does a totally different thing. what he does is much more creative, radical, and musical.

He's solo is 7/8, so quite a lot easier to be creative than Jonathan's.
I know that theoretically they fit together.. but the pulse doesn't quite fit if you count to seven.
