Oh Erica don’t let it get you down it’s a garden and it’s meant to be fun and harvesting is just a bonus. You have accomplished loads and juggling work, kids and allotments (and Lloyd 😂😂) my hats off to you. I find it refreshing that most CZcams gardeners I watch don’t fluff through perfection because we all can’t be Mr CD 😉. Look forward to seeing your updates always ✌️🇨🇦🐝 safe
Thanks Ali, lovely comment and it means a lot.
We got only a few winter potatoes too this year . Glad you got lots of beans . Thanks for another lovely video Erica xx💖
I've still got some Potatoes left so we are hoping to have those for lunch.
It’s been a terrible year for a lot of people this Year, due to weather changes but hey !! There’s another year we hope we all do better next year 👍
It's disappointing when we have failures Erica but don't let it get you down. There's always next year and hopefully you will get a good crop next year if you grow them again once you figure out what went wrong.
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
One variety of my potatoes grew really well but the other two were pants. Keep the faith Erica.
All my earlies grew well and harvested well but when I harvested the Picasso and Desiree the majority went black possibly with some type of fungus in storage but there were some of the Picasso and Desiree that I managed to eat before they went black.
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Hi Erica, I feel your disappointment too, my potatoes were not good this Year too. I think everyone across the Country have had a difficult growing season, all with different plants too. Very strange weather this Year and hope we all get a better season in 2022. Take care 🙂
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Hello Erica
my potatoes in buckets were not a success either. Too wet.
I appreciate the fact that you show us the plot even though is is not tidy. Because that is the reality, sometimes life get in the way.
Take care Joyce 💚👩🏻🌾🍀
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Thanks for sharing - it's been a tough year again on all fronts and keep smiling, your channel is so inspiring and supportive ☺
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Don't worry, Erica, life just gets in the way sometimes. Your next video sounds great too. I'm gutted for you about the potatoes, I have heard a few moans and groans about their peat-free. Some people were pulling out large bits of wood etc. What an amazing bean harvest though!! Awesome. Take care, hope you have a good week
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
I put only two potatoes in a 5 gallon container three in a ten and four potatoes in a 15 gallon tote or container so they have enough room to grow. I also add compost over them.
Great advice! Thanks
I will be pulling my Sal Palermo plants in a few weeks. I will update how they did, as still loads of green leaves. I think your right as to compost. I mix 50% garden soil to help prevent poor crops. Potatoes love older soil that's fed, over neat compost.
I did that last year purely out of necessity it was really hard to get compost last year and my potatoes did better then than this year.
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
@@ericaslittlewelshgarden Happy New year to you and your family 👪 😀
Thank you for showing that even people who know what they are doing are having bad harvests. MORE important for me is knowing it’s not too late to harvest my spuds. And having a better idea of how to do those buckets.
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
We do what we can Erica, yeah put it behind you and move on
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Hi Erica Jean here, new subscriber.I love gardening, and although i carnt do a lot thees days due to painfull back and joints,Hubby is building raised beds so we dont have to bend lol.We also have a green house due to come next month. So i will watch your channel with great interest.Mares tail is a nightmare.excuse the pun.xx
How exciting, thanks for subscribing. 😊
My potatoes never do well I can’t figure it out 🤔. Don’t worry about when you get videos out we are just happy to see one when you have a minute to film. We are all human and busy we understand 😉
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
My potatoes were really poor this season, hang on in there, you've worked so hard getting your polytunnel and greenhouse up and so much more. Next year you'll be back on fire 🔥 xx
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Mid November and missing you!
I'm back now. 😊
Thanks for sharing just how it is sometimes for us gardeners! Our potato pot was full of ants this year so I didn’t expect to get a harvest. Despite the ants we actually got some harvest which was a nice surprise.
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Hi Erica some of my potatoes did really poorly too. I got different compost from different places and some of it seems to have been far too woody and wouldn't hold water. When I harvested it had been raining and some were really wet but some were bone dry despite the rain. Those ones also had no worms in just woodlice. The wet ones had way less woodlice in and lots of worms. Hopefully we'll do better next year.
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
its just been a funny old year always next year
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Overall, my potatoes have yielded less than I planted, so I feel your pain. I'm not even sure they would have done better with more TLC... There's always next year, chin up! 😘
Well get there in the end won't we? 😊 Thanks got watching.
It’s been a bad year for us all, you’ve done well 👍x
Thank you x
I am going to plant potatoes in January. You've inspired me. I live in a sub-tropical area and have never grown them before. Looks like a good bean harvest! A video diary of your work in the garden would be great.
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Happy New Year to you too!!
I’m near Caerphilly & my bucket potatoes were absolutely dismal this year.
And my squash on the allotment weee the saddest 😭
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Shame about the potatoes Erica, good luck with pods👍👍
Thanks Mark. 😊
You got some potatoes which is good
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
I laughed when I saw the carrot. I didn't expect that. It has been an awful year for me too. The constant week after weeks of rain and the hurricane destroyed a lot of my plants by severe wind damage or flooding and killing the roots.
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Hi Erica! I've had a rubbish season but! My runner beans corguettes and chillies have been great :-)
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Hi Erica. Sorry to depress you further but a bumper season for spuds this year in the east of England. Planted direct in the ground under thick mulch of compost I think we got the rain here just a the right time. Lovely crop of Arron pilot beautiful first early. Tastes as good if not better than Jersey Royals (international kidney which by the way were the only verity on the allotments here to get blighted) Heavy crop of beautiful Charlotte second early. Just lifting the last of those now! and even heaver crop of Nichola tasting as good as the Charlotte but tending to go to mush when boiled so need to watch while cooking. Good for roasting.
Where in the east are you? I’m in Norfolk & my spuds have been a shocker especially the Sarpo
@@vanessawilkinson9855 Hi Vanessa I am in Suffolk between the River Deben and Orwell. We seem to have are own micro-climate due to this. I take it your Sarpo are main crop and I don't bother with main crop. Just 1st and then 2nd early which I can make last until the beginning of the year. I think the the thick mulch helped to retain the moisture this year. Resulting in a good clean crop with only a touch of scab here and there. Even on the last couple of charlottes I am now lifting.
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
It’s been a bad year for potatoes here too , the only potatoes I got were the potato challenge ones !
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Its been a really weird year, my beetroot, radishes, tomatoes all failed. I had good peas and runner beans, also had a good harvest of sweetcorn. The cabbage whites found some of my brassicas and even last week I found caterpillars munching at the kale. However, onwards and upwards. Thanks to your last video you've inspired me to grow garlic and onions, just waiting for a fairer day to get them in. Thanks Erica! x
Thanks for watching and leaving a lovely comment.
My harverst was shocking this year between everything. Never mind, next year will be amazing 🤩
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
I had a terrible potatoe harvest in Cardiff this year,it has been a very funny Summer regarding the weather
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Maybe it’s the changing weather
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
I tried potatoes in a basket this year (with store bought compost) and it was a dismal failure. Will use natural compost again next year.
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
My first early potatoes Colleen were great but the main crop Apache were really poor, I now have some Christmas pentland javelin potatoes growing in the ground and so far they look really healthy. I hope you let us know the results of your bean harvest, I am curious to know how well it did?
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Apart from kestrel mine were rubbish, Maris piper, int kidney and golden wonder all very poor, strange year
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
My pots of potatoes wasn't as good as last year as well! I'm also gradually clearing the messy bits of the plot!
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
Interesting about your potatoes,, I grew Setanta variety, they tasted really nice but out of four large buckets I only got about 6lb of potatoes , so I think the cool cloudy weather had a lot to do with it, I shall be growing them again next year just hope for a warmer spring and early summer. I also grew beans for drying and they did well , lots of dried beans for over winter, my problem is remembering to soak them the day before, so I may just freeze them next year. How do you treat your dried beans Erica , I would love to know ,I know Liz Zorab is quite an expert in this.
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Bless you sweetheart love your channel ...I didnt even have any potatoes 🤦♀️ keep going xx
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
I am in Ohio, USA and my potatoes didn't do well at all either.. interesting isn't it..
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
potatoes do best with fertile soil. My best results are planted in soil with well rotted farmyard manure and seaweed. I also used green manure in the winter and I also never grow in the same spot as the previous year. I think we are all struggling with shop bought compost. I don't think peat is the answer as it's quite sterile. Put your spent compost on the compost heap don't reuse.
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
You are not on your own with regards poor harvest of potatoes, I have had a very poor harvest with some potatoes, along with broccoli and cauliflowers, you just have to accept some years are good and some are bad. All the best Wayne.
Thanks for watching, hope you have an amazing new year!
The main thing is you have tried
Thanks for watching! Hope you had a great Christmas!
Those green bags you are using are rubbish - I use the plasticised dark green bags OR 10 litre buckets. I also use Cocopeat and add my own fert. They come up well then.
Hiya, the green bags are for my local council green waste collection, I don't grow in them, I just use them for moving compost about or transporting veg. They last about 2 years of constant use
