“T’oussaint you’re in deep shit rn” that was hilarious. T’oussaint led one of the first prolific, successful slave revolts in Haiti. They brutally fucked all their masters up. That song is Michael channeling that energy
This album is by all accounts not an easy listen, but it is so rewarding if you take time and just ingest the insanity and grandiosity of this masterpiece of an album
Hell yeah dude. This album completely broke me down when I first listened to it. I fell asleep in the middle of the album and woke up at the very end. Felt like it changed my life, man. Peace.

See if Swans are Touring (2023 World Tour) near you, this late Summer, Early Fall. See Them. I started seeing Them live in 2012. It was Life Changing. WEAR EARPLUGS ! - Bon Voyage !
There's no live music experience like Swans. As much as I love their records, Swans are first and foremost a live band. Intense, overwhelming, louder than anything, hypnotic. If they're ever playing live anywhere near you, make sure you go. You'll be very glad you did.
100%. It's a must watch band where the studio albums are just a teaser for the ultimate expression of their sound, which is the live experience. Same as bands like Sunn O))), Earth, Boris, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, etc - the live experience is just another beast altogether.
Hell yeah. Here' some other recommendations: Oneohtrix point never - R plus seven Mount eerie - A crow looked at me Slowmotion livestream - A statue in front of the devil
pleease do the seer. it has the electricity of to be kind, but a more haunting, folk-influenced sound. great vid, really dug how you summarized the meaning of every track here, kinda made me think:D
although i know soundtracks for the blind will most likely be the next one… great annihilator is fuckin beautiful and i dont think (if i remember correctly) theres any SUPER long songs… which is … good lol also great review bro im so glad you finally reviewed swans ❤
W mans ong such a special treat thank u for listening While you’re going down the weird album rabbit hole maybe try soundtracks for the blind sometime? Or if you want something other than swans Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age is a personal fav record of mine
Absolutely great reaction! If you weren't already planning to, please check out their 2016 album The Glowing Man. I think it's a completely life changing transcendental record, and the title track is almost definitely one of, if not the greatest song ever made.
Another insane detail about this album is that this might be the loudest the vocalist Michael Gira ever fully screams throughout an album despite being in his 60s!
Something about the image of you sitting in the forest while getting "Toussaint Louverture" screamed at you is very funny to me. Been binging your stuff the last few days, and love the channel
Whenever I do acid and I want a very 'shamanistic' experience, my go-to band is Swans, specially this album, but really more so The Glowing Man (their best work, in my opinion) and the live album Deliquescence. Groovy, hypnotic, trance-inducing. Going hard, 4 tabs, turning off all the lights and listening to Swans is a religious experience.
By way great vid loved how you analysed the songs and the themes in the album Swans are one of my favorite bands and I just love to fall into their songs and experience them but I do have to admit its not for everyone so I'm really happy you enjoyed it hope you do more of their's like The Seer(this one being the most terrefying of their albums in my opinion) or The Glowing Man next. Keep up the good content.
I feel like being outside for the first disk and moving inside for the second perfectly matches the way I feel about the two halves of this album, and how they just feel different for some reason.
no one does Swans reviews! imo, second best swans album behind Soundtracks There is a live album called Not Here Not Now that contains superior versions of To Be Kind and Just a Little Boy (a much much harder version). I hate that this version that didn't make the album.
Where did you listen to these live albums I’ve been wanting to listen to them but I can’t find them anywhere on streaming services, it says the newest live album is swans are dead which I know is not true
@@qwaneedo3226 i dont know why most of the newer live stuff isn't out. i know not here not now is the primavera 2013 show (at least the first three tracks).

It’s funny that you mentioned inhaler users for oxygen. In an interview Michael Gira said the song was inspired by an asthma attack that was so severe it sent him to the hospital

@@solartea_ for me, yes. I got hooked on them, around 2010, via an Occult Writer and Editor Friend of mine. (He started seeing them live in the late 80's. I started listening, Religiously, all the way back to their, White Light from the Mouth of Infinity Album). He took me to see them. I was pretty much ill-prepared, with,..."surrendering" to 'The Tumult' that was to play upon my Senses. I am right now, as I write this, listening to The Beggar Album. Listen to spears into hooks by meira asher hardest album ever! (For me) Also some diamanda galas would be nice too i hear a lot of vocal influences in gira's performance in this album which are similar to her style

Check out their last album: "The Beggar". Swans won't make another album after that, or so I've heard. Great ending to an amazing band!
They’ve already recorded the basic tracks for the next album, Gira has stated that he will likely keep making music until he physically can’t.
HE DOESN'T SAY "OH NO" IN OXYGEN
Must recommend Superunknown by Soundgarden. Vocals are insane and it's a ride all the way through
Honestly I don't like swans, is like been on DMT, Fen and been drunk 24/7. I do like TOOL and know that maynard likes to listen to this band.
I'm definitely in the minority, but this is one of my least favourite Swans albums. Can't put my finger on it, but it's never quite clicked with me.
