    Thanks for the video Jake, this is great! I was going to ask this but discovered it from messing around, thought I'd add it in for flavour - I was looking for a way to record the audio of each drum sound onto the separate tracks. Found out if you change Record Input to Record Output on the individual drum tracks it works.

    • @TheJakePoole
      @TheJakePoole  Před 2 měsíci

      @daviansometimes I'm not in front of my computer right now to have this exactly right, but you should be able to find it in the preferences menu, I believe, and select it as a midi controller, and then on the track, you set it as your input, instead of "input 1", and usually select "all channels". I know that's vague, but I hope it helps.

    Great video that was awesome what I was looking for I'm fairly new at this so I don't have to set this all up again do you have a video on saving this as a envelope I would assume that would be very helpful to save this project especially if I want to come back in play some different play different drum beats Beats?

    • @TheJakePoole
      @TheJakePoole  Před 6 měsíci

      You can save it as a template, basically just save the project once you've set it up, and if you ever use it, just hit "save as" and change the name of the project to save the new thing without overwriting the template.
      If it helps, I do have an empty template of this project in the video available. There's a download link in the description. 😊

    How are these Busses routed? are they summing up signals from respective instruments and then sending them to the "boss" track? For some reason my Tom bus when muted is still heard.

    • @TheJakePoole
      @TheJakePoole  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The busses should have no routing to or from them. Routing is only to the individual instrument tracks.
      I just prefer to divide the instrument tracks onto busses to use as a sort of "master fader" for it. Also, plugins placed on each buss will affect every track within that buss.
      For example, the snare top, bottom, and sample tracks will all go under a track labeled "Snare Buss", and you can use that "Snare Buss" as a fader and to process all 3 snare tracks simultaneously, rather than individually.
      I guess I sort of just threw the busses in there out of habit, because I route many things this way. You don't technically need them, but I find they add a lot of quality of life to mixing. Hah. But hopefully that helps!

      @@TheJakePoole When I mute a tom buss (sub folder) I still hear the toms for some reason. Can't figure out how the signal passes in Reaper.

    • @TheJakePoole
      @TheJakePoole  Před 5 měsíci

      @synthesaurus When it is unmuted and the toms are playing, do you see the meter moving on the individual tom tracks? It's hard to tell what's going on without being able to be hands-on with it, unfortunately. If the meter is only moving on the track with the drum plugin on it, then you may not have routed the audio out of the drum plugin correctly.

    Great video I just had another quick question so after I got it all set up and I've got my Edrums that I want to record to this layout would I have to arm each track I'm a little new to this by the way I'm using Reaper and the free version of SSD as you have shown in this video thanks for answering my previous question

    • @TheJakePoole
      @TheJakePoole  Před 6 měsíci

      I have a Roland TD17-KVX kit and all I have to do is set it as the midi input on the main track that has SSD5 on it.
      You may have to do some changes as far as what "midi note" your kit plays when you strike the pads, but that's pretty easy to do. I think I had to do it when I added a 4th tom pad to my kit, but it's been a while so I don't remember exactly what I did. I think it can be changed in either your kit module or SSD5.

    • @TheJakePoole
      @TheJakePoole  Před 6 měsíci

      @davepoulsen-bi9un If you're using my template, it's possible that it's because the version of SSD5, or location of your plugin data is different than what I had at the time. What happens if you open your SSD5 in a different project instead? Does it work there and just not in my template? If so, you'll probably have to replace the plug-in on the track with what you have, which means you'll probably have to do all the routing within SSD5 again, but all of the Reaper-side of the routing will already be done.
      If not, then most likely you either moved the ".dll" file of SSD5 to another folder, or deleted it somehow. I Googled "SSD5 DLL not detected in Reaper" and the first search result was a Reddit post that may be helpful to you.

    Hello, what do i do if i wanna add an effect - say a reverb plugin - onto the drum bus? or a stereo manipulator plugin so I could place the entire drumset to the back of the mix, what do I have to do? maybe i missed something

    • @TheJakePoole
      @TheJakePoole  Před 2 lety +2

      Just treat it like you would an actual audio track while mixing. If you put effects on the drum buss track, it will affect the entire kit. Just make sure the effect is placed AFTER the SSD5 plugin in the signal chain.
      Putting effects on any sub buss, say for example, the snare buss, will affect only the snare sound, but the whole snare sound. (Top, bottom, sample, etc all together).
      And then of course, applying effects to an individual track, for example, "snare top", will only affect the snare top audio.
      If for some reason, placing effects on the drum buss track isn't working, you could place the entire drum track group under another track, and put the effects on that track, and that should work, at least in theory.
      Please let me know if this helped! If it didn't, I'll look into it further.
      (I know you didn't ask for all of this info, but I wanted to be thorough so hopefully it will help someone else who may have a related question.)
