Troopers responded to reports of a rolling domestic violence situation on the I-17 Durango Curve around 10pm Thursday night.

The victim / reporting party stated she was being followed by a gold Mercedes SUV driven by an armed suspect that was known to her.

Troopers located the vehicle near 27th Avenue and Durango Street travelling Eastbound.

The decision was made to utilize a Grappler device which was recently placed into service for the Metro Central district. Due to the nature of the call troopers chose to deploy the Grappler device to stop the vehicle as quickly as possible rather than chance a possible pursuit.

The vehicle was brought to a sudden stop near 19th Avenue and the Eastbound access road for I-17.

Troopers with assistance from the Phoenix Police Department performed a high risk traffic stop detaining the male suspect and a male passenger.

The victim was able to meet with Troopers at a safe location away from the scene of the arrest.

According to a Captain with AZDPS this is the Metro Central District 1920 graveyard squad's first Grappler deployment since adding the newly outfitted cruisers to their fleet.
