    It was in a June 1991. I was 11 years old look at a new Car and Driver magazine. I was taken. Now 27 years later, I am the owner of that car. I'm still taken.🙂

    The Toyota SC/Soarer is a GT car, hands down. If you don't know what a Grand Tourer is, look it up. It's meant to get you from point A to point B in extreme comfort and style....not to mention it does all that VERY quickly. The SC is the epitome of that.

    I fell in love with this car when it was introduced. I was living in San Diego, CA. I sat in one at the LA Auto Show. Finally last June, I bought a black '95 SC 400. It now has over 202k and yet it drives like a new car. I get admiring glances and compliments on it. It has such an excellent design it makes you look back over your shoulder once you park it.

    • @RANGERROCKET25
      @RANGERROCKET25 Před 9 lety

      solemandd67 I've had mine since 2012 and it really started to show its age. I had 199.000 miles when I first got it. Now it has 255,800 miles. That's 9.7 times around the world. I've paid $2000.00 for that car and now I've pretty much have invested over $4000.00 for parts and repair and that's not to mention a new paint job and a sound system. NEW FUEL PUMP, FUEL PUMP REGULATOR, BRAKE BOOSTER, HEAD GASKET, DISTRIBUTOR WIRES AND CAP, HARMONIC BALANCER, COMPUTER BRAIN, and REBUILT INSTRUMENT PANEL. It's pretty much a dinosaur. In five years it's going to be a classic. Never the less, it will always have that futuristic look that will never die out. :)

    The SC400 was a work of art, and it is a rare classic that you never see on the streets or anywhere, if I were rich and had a classic car collection this would be in it sitting right next to the original first generation Acura Legend Coupe , another rare classic. I always loved that commercial “ if you could be seen by person only once how would you like to be remembered “

    What I love about this car is you have 3 choices of motors. If you just want a cruiser the 2jz-ge (sc300) is pretty good reliable motor. You want a sports soarer gotta go the 1jz-gte (pretty common here in australia). Ultimate luxury decent performance the 1uz-fe (sc400). Would love to own one of each :p

    This is from 1991, early 1991 to be exact and not 1992. The SC400 was released on June 1, 1991 as an early 1992 model. Not sure why everyone seems to think that model years are always indicative of calendar years. The Lexus dealers received this video by April 1991.

    Yeah but in japan there was a 3rd option. 1jz-gte. Not at all lacking in performance. The 2jz-ge is a great motor but they are so heavy the soarer. Even my 1uz supercharged isn't that quick. But people with the 1jz-gte with some cheap mods can get a really fast soarer.

    I have a 98 SC300 and love the design of the car but how Toyota marketed it in this video is BS. "emotion" and "feel" are hallmarks of the roaring 90s when it was for the most part peace and prosperity so people occupied their time with fluff.
    They designed the car with pure science that lead to a very sleek design. The design was just way ahead of its time. These cars still look better than most new cars and we are pushing 20 years from when they started planning this car!

    I'm glad that Toyota gave Lexus its coupe back, but the RC is a joke compared to this timeless beauty.
    The Z30 still looks good after a quarter century, the RC will look dated in just a few years. It's over-designed and dripping with tacky chrome, Toyota forgot at some point that sometimes less is more.
