    Ok, you'd be so proud of me. I bought a "previously loved" recliner that had a broken back. I figured out how to remove the back, pull off the leather cover, remove the broken strut (made of crappy pressboard) & take the strut to a local woodworker who fabbed up two new ones out of maple. I got them re-installed (glued & screwed), stretched the cover back on & the leather recliner is better than new. Ridiculous that they used pressboard at all...dont get me started.

    Another great video guys. Any plans on doing a video on replacing a cushion in a reclining couch or recliner? Curious on tips to get the cushion to the very front of it? Also the fabric that goes over the front often gets stuck between the reclining footrest and the seat cushion, any tips to prevent this from happening?

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore

      Hi Brandon, thank you for watching the video and leaving this comment.That style of furniture you have,I take it you want to remove the foam out of the seat cushions? But they are not removable?We will be doing a video in the future on it, when I get a hold of one, we don’t reupholster that style, the cost to reupholster is usually a lot higher than the original purchase cost. So people say no. I would love to solve this problem for the average household of getting to the foam. Because I do not want the furniture to end up in landfill. The problem of the footrest could be an mechanical one an adjustment you can make. Maybe the screws holding on the footrest need an adjustment, it’s too tight. You can also try upholstery silicon spray you can find that online. It should not cause any damage to the fabric test it first. It gives lubrication to fabrics. I really hope this addressed your problem and was of some help. Please consider sharing the videos it helps us when you do. All the best, Paul

      @@ucsolutionsgivingmore Thanks for the reply. I will consider uploading a video in the near future. The cushion is attached correct so it is not removable. I did put a foam cushion in to replace the pocket coil one there now but having trouble getting the foam to go all the way to the front. It may be too thick so I might need to shave a bit off the bottom. I am not sure how to close the back though perhaps sew new material to cover it and secure the foam in place as I had to cut the pocket coils out. I think the only other way to get it out would have been taking off all the springs which seemed like overkill. Appreciate your mission to save furniture and have been enjoying trying it out myself and following along with your content.

    Should we measure with the covers on or off? Also I have a mostly square cushion with a tiny "L" that wraps around the corners, how do I measure this/ Thanks

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  Před 4 lety

      Hey there, It’s best to measure the cushion with the covers still on seam to seam measure the best side of the cushion with the cleanest seam lines. You will add 1 inch to all the measurements try this video for more information czcams.com/video/em_-lQJEhok/video.html. That should help, all so go to ucprivatecourses.com you can get a quote on foam and put in the size that you need there. Hope this is helpful please share the videos it helps a lot when you do. All the best, Paul

    I just found you guys & have been watching all day. I had to throw out my beloved loveseat because I didn't know how to do it myself. I've learned so much but yet haven't seen what I need yet : down wrapped seats & down backs. Can you help me?

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  Před 4 lety

      Hey wanna say thank you first of all for watching the video glad you did find us. What exactly do you need to know about the down wrapped cushions and all down back cushions can you explain. We have not yet done a video on down wrapped cushions. But I might be able to walk you through it. For the seat cushions you can easily open them up move the poly foam replace it, hand sew it back. It should perform like a new cushion, we do it all the time. Is this what you’re talking about? Let me know. Please share the videos it helps us when you do. Cheers, Paul

    How would I order a cushion for my sofa when the cushion i curved not actually a L cushion? The sofa curves in in the center. The outside edges are deeper than center.

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  Před 4 lety

      Hello Dianne,
      Thank you for the comment, and good question as well. The deeper areas can be filled in with poly fill from an old pillow. Those areas give no support and just need to be fill out. Hey there is live chat on the website ucprivatecourses.com there you can give a phone number and it's a lot easier to understand and help you on your cushions needs. Thank you again. Cheers, Paul

    A question amigos: so what to do if I have an older Ekornes Stressless recliner with worn factory shaped/sculpted foam? There's nothing square about the dimensions.

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  Před 5 lety

      Hello it’s always great to hear from you!! Yeah that is a problem the molded sculpted foams. Unfortunately there’s nothing else you can do about it. They have that mold they pour the liquefied foam into and that’s it!! It’s only got a certain limited lifetime. In hindsight I wonder how these companies feel about making things that need to be thrown away after a decade or so?? Just wanted to throw that out to you. Honestly we always appreciate your comments look forward to the next ones. Cheers amigo, Paul

    Me and my family are pretty big and tall people at least 6'4 350 lbs what is the best compressions for that?... in the past we've made all our couch sagging...desperately seeking help to keep our couch..

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  Před 4 lety

      Hey Darling Wolfie,
      Great question, I would suggest a 35 compression (which is medium-soft) or a 45 (which is firm) but no higher! 75 compression is for 2” or thin pieces of foam. I hope this helps!

    Hey guys, quick question! I have a leather sectional with attached cushions that’s got a pretty substantial dent from three years of sitting in one of the cushions. I can’t find any kind of zipper to access the foam cushion to potentially replace it. Is there something I can do to fix it?

    • @ucsolutionsgivingmore
      @ucsolutionsgivingmore  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi there Thrine, That’s an excellent question we get it very often. Sorry to say I have bad news finding access to the foam is very difficult in most cases. Depending on how the factory put it together you could go from the outside back or underneath the sofa remove black fabric, it is called a dust cover. In short it’s really hard to say, I wish they would stop making that style of furniture because it ends up in a landfill. We are in the process of making a documentary on styles of furniture similar to yours ending up in landfills. I Wish I had better news for you!! All the best please consider sharing the videos for us we would appreciate it. All the best, Paul

    • @xal0nenowx
      @xal0nenowx Před 4 lety +1

      Damn, I was hoping there would be a secret to it 🤣 thank you, Paul! I appreciate you taking the time to answer me. When she was a puppy, my dog managed to tear into the dust cover at the seem between the seat back and the seat itself, so I’ve had some experience with flipping the couch and trying desperately to sew a replacement fabric to the leather seat so it wasn’t left open, but I don’t remember seeing a way to really access the foam from there. I have a leather awl so I’ve considered tearing the seams from the top and replacing it that way, I just worry that if I mess up at all it’ll be super visible.

    Why buy all new expensive foam for a fabric that is already at half life?
    I mean why not just add sheets of used free foam (used carpet foam etc) to the center of the foam core boosts it right back back up is what I do. I remove the old foam core from the fabric, then I use a hand held hack saw blade to cut open the foam core starting from the back, like a hamburger bun but not completely, stop before cutting all the way through the front. Now place sheet(s) of used free foam in between the "bun" opening you've made and sandwich back together and inside the fabric. Now it's boosted back to like new firmness!
