It helped me to remove a couple of the keys when screwing/unscrewing the screws, to avoid wedging the screwdriver too tightly in there and ripping up all the plastic on the keys & keyboard frame

Thank you for this Robert. A few notes that I learned: when pushing the keyboard up with a flat head, don't use too much force. I destroyed a keycap this way by slipping. Also, when pushing the rubber grommets out from the front, it's good to know that you can't 'aim' directly at the spot between e.g. F12 and Home, as there's plastic between them; you need to choose a side (left or right) to get at the grommet. Only a flat head worked for me to push the grommets out, a spudger failed.

Thanks! My favorite part was when you evidently spoke into your armpit or something during the first step of installation LOL

Thanks for this! It was a bit difficult getting under the plastic tray, but much better than cutting the rubber into pieces with a knife while digging from underneath, like the official service manual suggests.

On new replacement keyboards there's a blue plastic strip on the bottom with some padding that fits into a groove. Unless this is removed, the keyboard won't install properly. Not having installed a 450 keyboard yet, this was a sticking point for me until I figured that out. Other than that, this is a great video and was very helpful.

What a savior! The red nipple thingy was drifiting and for some reason with Linux it ignores the BIOS setting for the thing to be off so what I did was unplug the cable of that stupid red nipple thingy!!! I know it has a name but whatever. Thanks!

Darn, I was hoping ThinkPad keyboards were a fairly universal design so I could replace my T450's keyboard with the one from my now dead L480.
    Guess not :(

When you get the pegs out part way you can grab them from the back with a fingernail, don't try grabbing them with a knife. I never could lift the cover high enough to see them in there. Ok now I just pray this solves the issue
    they are soft

Hi Robert, got a slight issue as I removed the old keyboard as it had the return key missing (forth time it had sprung out of the keyboard) and I had an issue with key responses not working as I had taken the laptop over from old job. When I removed the laptop the two white clamps that you click up to release the small and large ribbon cable both just fell apart, so I need to find a place that actually sells them. Lenovo just says it comes with the system board. So screw that idea of scrapping a decent mother board for the sake of two plastic clamps. Do you have any idea where I can get two replacements so I can install the new keyboard. By the way I have tried some of the solutions already, such as cutting a small piece of plastic and using this to clamp the cable in. Doesn't work. Also someone suggested a hot wax/heat gun but if you use this and it does not work you can pretty much kiss good bye to the connectors and motherboard. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

In trying to remove the stoppers (I didn’t use your way because I couldn’t figure out what you were doing unfortunately), I pushed one of the stoppers back under the slot. Now I can’t see or reach it. Will this be a problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?
