- Soldiers of the 100th separate Territorial Defense brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are guarding the north border of Ukraine in Volyn. The northernmost region of the West of Ukraine is one of the possible routes of another Russian attempt to invade Ukraine from Belarus. If the Russian offensive here succeeds it will be costly for Ukrainians - hampering logistics and cutting off Ukrainian forces from the support of Western allies. hromadske visited the soldiers in the winter snowy forest to find out how their everyday life is organized, how they organized the defensive line, what they think of the current situation as well how they asses the probability of attack from the Belarusian border.

The Ukrainian command, soldiers and journalists never fail to impress me. They are strong, courageous, and are ready to give it all. I've been watching hromadske since the early days and the journalists get so close to the front lines that it gives me chills when I hear an explosion nearby and a soldier will say that is not close enough to worry about. Then they crack a joke. They are indeed people who enjoy poking fun at themselves or their comrades. The journalists always ask the questions that I would ask if I were there. I have yet to see a trench or camp where they haven't done everything they can to be comfortable. They also always have a cat or dog or both as in this case. Given that cats and dogs hearing is more acute than a humans and cats can see in the dark they are not only good hunters, they make excellent sentries. God bless them all and I pray that this war ends soon and with Putin face down in a ditch. Slava Ukraine!

Another brilliant report. It must be hard to maintain the necessary levels of vigilance when nothing seems to be happening but the commander summed it up when he said if they weren't there the enemy would have advanced. Good to see the soldiers who are out of the public eye. Let's them know they arent being ignored. Also great fat tactical cats. If the cats arent thin the soldiers must be being well fed!

I love the reports from your channel. The one common thing in all of them is the spirit of the Ukrainian fighters. They all have high spirits and don’t complain about the conditions. They are ALL focused on defeating the enemy. The only thing that is consistently brought up is that they wish they had more firepower and soldiers. I think they all understand that more resources will end the war quicker.

@@petreinysilhan227 to bude prošpikované cyklostezkami Petře😀Když jezdím pracovně do Púchova, tak před Lidečkem dělají velkou cyklostezku na Slovensko, tam se to asi napojí na jinou a ta půjde až na Ukrajinu, ale já cyklista nejsem, spíše inlinista pokud mám náladu, ale jak na to stoupnu, tak to 40-60km za den udělám. Na to potřebuji ale i ty cyklostezky🙂Mějte se.

No surprise that some of them are hunters. They also built a good camp, well thought out, even with plumbing. Hunting will supplement food delivery. The shower and sauna keeps morale and health high.
They will form a close bond so that even if the enemy goes past them and occupies their town, these guys will be secret resistance fighters behind enemy lines causing havoc and freeing their country.

All the vegetarian has to do is offer his or her meat or fish ration to the omnivores and they work out it's better for everyone within a day or two.

Wow. Very nicely prepared trenches. The men have made for themselves very adequate place to live and to stay. With warm places to go, a stove to dry wet clothing, decent food, decent clothing they are well prepared for bad weather conditions. While the men still need to be on alert around the clock, life here is almost like an upscale camping trip.
Thats some 5 star trenches right there.
An upscale camping trip, but with the likelihood of being immediately attacked with grenades, mortars, artillery, anti-personnel munitions, infantry, tanks and armoured fighting vehicles...
I guess the absence of actual invasion in their zone means they've had nothing to do but be alert and build better facilities for 10 months now. It shows :-) Quite possibly the fanciest trenches in Ukraine.
@@xxwookey ONE of the fanciest, maybe... I've seen a tour of one just as good if not better, with a bigger sauna! No idea where it was, but it seemed super cosy, orderly, clean and comfortable. I think they may encourage keeping pets because they truly do keep up morale amongst soldiers who could otherwise miss the warmth of relationships with family and pets at home. Having someone/ something to care for..
@@xxwookey Yeah. Standard military training is to "Every day find some way to improve your living conditions." Obviously, Well thought out plans of can greatly improve the situation. Someone needs to defend these zones. These are also non-professional soldiers; generally you want the best to be taking part in active offenses, then you put others, maybe those not as able to serve, reserves, older, not as skilled, or may have minor injuries into supporting roles in areas where they are less likely to see action. These men are probably trained enough to hold the line, and have access to anti-tank rockets and more; but if the enemy starts to attack, generally, the military can move a lot more solders up into the positions to defend. Keeping warm and keeping comfortable, and keeping healthy is a really important part of war, if your men are worn out, tired or unable to fight they will not be able to do a good job when the time comes.

those are locals they know their area they know how to dress many seem to be outdoorsman by trade or by hobby the weather is not a problem for them they have it much better than those in the trenches down south. Slava Ukraina.
a trench in the mountains is VERY different from that from the low lands. But in general fighting in the mountains offers you great advantages if you are not a LAZZY person .

Very interesting contrast between the Ukrainians and Russian soldiers. It appears to me that Ukrainians are much more disciplined. Even though they are in trenches and dugouts -- there is still order and organization. they have the ability to shave and take daily showers. that goes a long way toward the morale of the UK troops. This is why they are willing to endure the battle.
