- A new kind of wind turbine that can power your off-grid home for 30 years safely and efficiently. It's called the ICEWIND turbine, and it's made by a company from Iceland that knows a thing or two about harsh weather conditions. The ICEWIND turbine is not like the typical horizontal axis wind turbines that you see in wind farms, with huge blades that rotate like propellers. Those turbines are great for large-scale power generation in residential areas.

"It doesn't depend on the weather"..😅 actually, it does!
The cost of these per Kw-h is ASTRONOMICAL.
Their website says $4100 for one 100 watt turbine with mounting hardware.
These cost 10x more than they should for what they are.
You can buy a 150 watt VAT for less than $400. With another few hundred for an inverter.
You can buy several kw turbine systems with the grid tie inverter for the same cost as this thing.
Amen
And it comes with a bullshit spiel. He said that you have to factor in replacement costs because solar systems only last 10-30 years, while his turbines last 30 years. Well, that is a replacement cost to factor in.
Amazing! I've been tinkering with ideas like this for a long time. Way to make the world a better place!
Replacing solar PV panels "every 10 to 20 years" would apply only to the lowest quality panels. The higher end panels carry a warranty of 25 years with an additional 90+% performance warranty. Many panel brands last 30+ years. Moreover, they are now recycling PV panels and recovering their materials for reuse. This is not to say this wind turbine isn't worth it, especially if its price outcompetes gas or grid hydro, but it could be limited to a supplementary role mainly used during dark winters and nighttime. The video states that solar PV takes a lot of room, well so what? Roofs are ideal anyway and offer pre-existing structural support. 'Agrivoltaics' is a new term and refers to the complementary roles solar arrays and crops can play when panels are raised up and medium shade tolerant crops are planted. Some panels are coming onstream with more clear area per panel to allow sunlight to pass through. The plants below also keep the panels cooler. Some solar-farming practices also allow greater space between panel arrays for lines of crops that can be harvested by tractor-based machinery. Net metering profit works only when the grid credits each kWh equal with or more than the grid charges per kWh., all above the cost of installing the system on a per kWh basis over time.
As always, today's battery technology is advancing very quickly and should be considered as part of any renewable energy system.
The concept is excellent. It should be possible for other companies to manufacture such turbines at substantially reduced cost. This is a design approach that has been around for a long time. Indeed I have seen similar home constructed versions that were made in the the 70s
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's fascinating to see how this wind turbine design has been around for decades. Innovation often leads to more affordable options, and I believe the same could happen with this Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. With its impressive capacity, powerful output, and fast recharging capabilities, it seems like a reliable choice for outdoor enthusiasts and those looking for a home backup power solution.
The ice wind turbine seems to have many more pluses than negatives at last a good design and noise output!
The price will have to come down a bit before I am interested. I like the idea.
I see this as potentially complementary system to solar system on most areas. The average wind on most living areas it's under the minimum requirements for an efficient ROI. This vawt type combines the drag type with the lift type of the turbine which could improve the drag flows but still limited. The hawt principle is still more efficient. Good idea but, with all the respect it looks over claimed. Thank you for the insight!
Combination of solar, wind, and batteries would be good. Can't see why it needs to be an either/or situation. Places in Australia that have solar are also on the main network.
Solar causes as much toxic waste with the panels as they prevent. Until they fix the non-recyclable materials they are only a feel good or emergency alternative to other energy sources.
I like it. Thinking about getting one of those. It look like a tree. I’ll just have to check it out. Blessings.
Thank you from French Polynesia 😊
This style should also be easier to lock down in extreme wind conditions
The birds killed by windmills is way overstated. Out of the various man made causes the vast majority of the deaths are collisions with vehicles, buildings, and utility lines from what I've read.
Windmills went out of use over a hundred years ago, nowadays its wind turbines.😉
@@DomingoDeSantaClara Yeah, whatever. Capturing wind energy for use is all the same. New name, same game. 😁
General problem of small wind turbines: Too less wind near the ground, too less wind in built-up areas. Too less workload. Too high price per nominal power.
And the Icewind turbine is no exception of this "rules".
25 mph wind for nominal power: You won't have many hours of this wind speed per year at average sites and near the ground. Typically less than hours of sunshine.
And by the way: There is an older debunking-video for the Icewind turbine from "Grid Ops".
This channel is a shame... ey, give my heart!!
Another excellent idea, they would be great along freeways to keep the road surface heated underneath! The wind provided by the vehicle's themselves would work great! I have seen something similar already!😊
All that glitters is not gold.

If the producer of this video gave the price per watt hour in the first 10 seconds, 99.9% of people would turn it off! Far too expensive for what it is!
Hi. Thanks for sharing.
Been following you folks for a while . We have lots and lots of wind! Would love to see what a couple of turbines could do! Every time the wind gets up I feel like we're losing money!
Excellent
This is a Small turbine. They could make a much larger version with progressively smaller turbines nested inside inside for a combined effect in the same footprint.. Using extremely lightweight, but strong materials would result in increased spin. The ideal placements could take advantage of wind coming off a mountain range or daily onshore/offshore winds from the coastline.
Turbine inception?
1. If you buy electricity for .15 you sure as hell don't sell it back to the provider for the same price. You'd be lucky to get .05
2. 25mph wind is a lot to ask to produce such a small amount of power.
I really don't get why such a high price point either.
They cost 10x more than they should.
You can buy a higher output VAT for $400 ith a couple hundred extra for an inverter.
fajne rozwiazanie takie może trafić pod strzechy 👍👍👍
I personally would like to see a home system that includes, wind, solar and Hydro power generation. Was hoping the Tesla system would have this, but it doesn't. However, I still believe their system could still end up being more of a money maker than their cars.
If you have a dual battery system, you could charge one battery while using the other. Most systems count on generating enough electricity via solar panels to run the house and charge the battery at the same time during the day and then use the batteries at night. With just the addition of wind, you could continue charging, as long as the wind is blowing. Hydro, would be the 3rd charging method and for most people, (those that don't have a stream), would involve a hydro battery. Hydro batteries are basically water towers, they fill the tank up using the solar panels during times of excess capacity and the water is held until it is needed. If an extra charge is needed, the stored water is slowly released and uses gravity to generate the force to turn a small turbine. If you happen to have a stream on your property, then the tower isn't needed and hydro may be your second option ahead of wind, since it would be more consistent.
Anyway, good to see the innovation on the wind turbines, enjoyed the video.
The ridgeblade is my favorite at the moment. 👊
Ya, mine too. it seems like you only need smaller blades and get more power if you let the roof and walls funnel that wind right to your turbine
Wonderful ..,
I’ve never seen a vertical wind turbine for sale. Ever
Good imformation
Solar is still the more cost effective solution. Just finding someone that doesnt charge insane upcharge on install is the hard part.
200 watts at 25 mph, good luck with that !
Not dependent on weather? Output is how much with 25 mph wind? Solar pv panels have an 80% output guarantee after 25 or 30 years. Why would they need to be replaced every 10?
True, this sounds more like an add than a real comparison.
Very good
Too expensive for me. It looks very good though.
The CW series has not entered the mass manufacturing process and is currently not available. We are aiming to get it to mass manufacturing by the end of 2024.
We are transitioning to Gen2 turbines this year with upgraded materials (more carbon fiber) and new generators and electronics. We will release a new datasheet once the trials are completed. We are in the micro turbines business, they range from 100W-600W @ 10m/s with a maximum output of 5000W in high winds. Estimated price for the RW600 will be around 8000USD. Grid tie electronics are usually around 3000USD. ??????? This is not serious.
Defo should be promoted to have this with solar and storage, not as an alternative. Wind and solar is intermittent but together with adequate storage could power a residential property every day of the year. Even in the center of the UK which has lots of cloudy days and unpredictable, multi directional wind speeds. Saying a technology is better than its rivals when both only work in certain weather conditions is dumb.
Still haven't established makers of horizontal windpower tested toroidal rotor of scale!
Excelente mundial
We can use the Icewind invention in our tropical island of Puerto Rico. Looking forward…
Its all nonesense. I will be COAL or CANDLES. THATS REALITY
Green energy is LESS than 3% in most areas. Thats 10 minutes a day.

well I live in Australia and we have not had much wind or sun for the last 2 months,
They must export these Wind Turbines to South Africa. We need these types of stuff urgently! 😆
these gadgets are not good for south Africa at all!
They are destined for a minority of people living in swiss alps, Austria , luxumburg and Liechenstein.
Wonder if the Freya modl could be mounted on a sailboat...transom arch beyond the main sail boom.
Every mechanical system wears, and the bearings have a definite life so this turbine will have a defined life and if constantly buffeted by disruptive winds then is life may be shortened, so may not live out a solar panel. But that is said this I think it is a good product, only that the commentary borders on the truth. Just like you car it may need new wheel bearings if it driven hard, and just like solar panels needing regular cleaning, your turbine will need regular inspection and maintenance, especially the design that is cantilevered from base. Without a top bearing, the lower bearing will see a high deflectional load and I suspect it's working hard.
yep kids toys were they made it from and going back to it 100 watt great for led
I want one, thanks.
I like it. I already got ev panels. I wonder how easy it is to run both wind and solar with my existing Tesla solar system. Will I need an additional grid inverter?
"800% more Power" How is that to be understood?
My thoughs exactly. It can produce 150-200 watts of power at a wind of 25 miles/hour. A washing machine uses up to 1500 watts to heat up the water. That means I will need at least 10 of this to wash my clothes lol. Our 20 KW solar system costed about 15.000 euros (so about 4-5 times the price of the freya model) but it produced between 25 kWh (day full of clouds and rain) and 120 kWh (sunny day in July) per day. It made 3000 kWh in July while this wind turbine will make 144 kWh in the best case scenario (running 24/24 for 30 days at max speed which is unreal). Sure it costed 5 times more but it produced 20 times more in July. Sure in winter the production will go down but it still will make more than I need for the daily routine.
Its internet not true, just better than 100watt
It sounds more like an infomercial!
needs 25mph wind and expensive. Good product. -.-
Need one to install
If greedy power companies weren't in the way this would already be running on the planet.
Why would they be interested in a wind turbine that generates 150w for a couple of hours a year😂
Solar panels depend on the weather, good that wind turbines don’t. Solar panels just work and last way beyond 10 years. Sunlight is predictable, they have charts showing the annual sun exposure for where you live. Those bus stops needed 2, what does that tell you.
do you think the cast adds flavor or this is only that it was braised?
I’m on the water on the wind is very variable, sometimes very strong.
If these are manufactured in large numbers in say India, the costs will be down to 1/3 of the cost or even lesser
Why is it that people in general are slow in regonizing that vertical wind turbines are more efficient than bladed wind turbines? And as such will work 24/7 versus solar? Sheesh people. a few vwt's on your roof versus solar panels. Its a no brainer. Have you heard of natural up drifts over a roof? Question? What do you do when you need a new roof when you have solar panels on it?
0:50 like a WHAT! 🤣
Where to buy that in the Philippines?can be stop if ther is strong wind so it will damage it
Until we get a much lower cost vertical wind turbine it will be very hard to make them financially solvent.
Don't get fooled too easily. You have to change bearings no matter what they say. And wind turbines are dependant on weather conditions called WIND :-) that doesn't always blow
I don't say it can't be better then previous inventions in some ways... but I would like to see independent tests first
I live in a wind-shadow area. Most of the time it is a very light breeze - will Icewind work in those conditions?
can be nice to have as a kit set!
Some of the points stated here are misguiding.
"Solar panels degrade over time." Everything degrades over time. Warranty generally covers 25 years for solar panels.
"Wind turbines don't depend on weather". Well, no wind, no power.
Neither is a substitute for the other but a good supplement. No need for bashing solars to make a point for wind turbines.
Its all nonesense. I will be COAL or CANDLES. THATS REALITY

❤❤❤
They need to make this for cars and vehicles and airplanes, and any vehicle even bicycles😂
Most solar panels have 25 year warranties ? And typically last much longer
Some are up to 40 year warranties now. Check out the maxeon panels.
You forgot to mention it's biggest "advantage" - it gives absolutely no power compared to classic horizontal turbine...
I think better than others
So pleased with your idea and wondering how can I get one.l live in Kenya thanks
Conventional wind turbines are far more cost effective. You must have ones available in Kenya. But solar panels will be far more reliable in the Kenyan climate
Big oil and Big coal will do everything in their power to halt this technology. Count on it!
Is payback considering opportunity cost?
Vertical wind turbines are better than solar panels. Why doesn't anyone seem to make affordable ones that people can simple plug in and place in their back yards. I've looked, I can't find any.
So why don’t Utilities use instead of the standard big propeller??? Think folks!
Thanks for the interesting video.
Would these work in Ireland?
No. Irish wind is so complicated it couldn't cope with horizontal spinning. The Irish have to face things head on.
Solar PV works great in Ireland, I've 10 x 430w panels plus battery in Dublin. €9200 after the grant (which I'm still waiting for the SEAI to give me back...)
200 watts max means it would take more than ten units to produce two KW. Not too practical, is it?
What excess power are you talking about to sell? You say normally household uses 500kw per month and your product produces 120kw per month. Where is the excess to sell?
The wind is not going to blow continuously so a backup is going to be needed.
No prices on the website… anyone have any idea??
I see and enjoy you ice wind turbine , i am from india and from cetral part of east coast area , wish to have your wind turbine for my farm house , to cover , water motor 1 hp, geaser ,fridge, airconditioner , tv, other mislenious kitchecn iapplinces with led lighting . can you tell me the suitable quatation please
Can n person combine it with sun pannels
To claim solar to have 20 years lifetime is unfair. Wind turbine have moving parts (bearing, blades etc); which needs replacement too due to material fatique, oiling of bearings etc.
Where can I buy this? Tnx
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Berapa harga satuannya /unit di jual.
I have a goose that lays golden eggs.
*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity - and only at costs very significantly above 1€/kWh!*
There is hardly any wind near the ground, and it is also very gusty, which extremely reduces the service life of the systems.
*With solar systems, you can reliably generate electricity for about 8-12 cents/kWh over a period of 25 years!*
not in the UK according to the makers so dont hold your breath
Ok you engineering buffs & scientists; Q, Would this wind turbine work on a campervan roof?........or would the movement of the vehicle negate the MPG (miles per gallon) enough not to be worthwhile? or could it be mounted behind the back doors of a vehicle when moving to capture the wind (eddies) to solve this?
Nope, there is nothing free in physics, if you will install it on th8e back of your car - the windage will make the fuell efficiency of you car horrible to equalize the effort...
Yeah 25mph is about 11m/s. In Urban settings this will be hard to achieve. And 150-200W that is xD...that is NOTHING! This video twists the reallity when compairing Wind and Solar power. Both of them needs a storage system in order to work optimal. They both have skittish sources.
This is the second video i've seen from this channel, and it is VERY commercial/propagada infused. Don't get me wrong i'm very pro-wind and solar solutions, but it needs way more development before it can be considered a viable solution for urban usage, when compairing with solar.
GO CHECK their video description!!! It gives a very clear image of what this channel is!
Thirty years? THEN what, the wind STOPS????
Could be a great solution. It would HELP it, if the support structures of the spinning wind-turbine are better designed - to look more refined. People often reject wind-tubines on houses because they can look UGLY:
Nowhere near as ugly as the 200m high monsters the Wales Government are going to plaster the Welsh hills with!
Freya ICEWING Turbine instead of Solar. You must have financing for the poorest. Thanks. 🤩💚⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. But can you modify to a smaller device because in COOPs they only allow small device outdoor. Thanks. I need only 1000 watts. My Nostalgia Microwave is only 700 watts, my Fridge, Hanging Dryer and Wash Machine each is only 200 watts. Of course, I do not use the microwave together with other house machines.
Brand of vertical wind turbine doesn't matter for US residents as our government agencies will Not allow permanent public use.
Ka-ROUS-el HAHAHA
Watch CZcams video on the gyro wind turbine more power for less size regards Graham Flowers MEng
Where to buy it?
❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍
I have been following this company for years, they dont offer anything beneficial as far as I can tell. You will pay far too much money and you will have tiny power. Solar is so much better and probably 10X cheaper
You can put the ICEWIND on a trailer and power your TESLA with windenergy!
I hope you enjoyed this video.
need to lower the price of the icewind turbines.. sell alot more too and lower cost ..
18 years? Make it 1,8 years and it becomes interesting.
And then he power output should be much higher.
