This is one of those pieces that just makes my eyes roll back up immediately, like, "Ohhh, this is SO. GOOD. GAH." I know Atterberg never exactly became a household name, but from what I've read about him he apparently had a pretty long, fulfilling life, which is more than many well-known composers could say.

The language of Atteberg is quite classical, in the postromantic tradition, but its originaly in handling it is quite obvious. His symphonies are full of surprises, moving or epic moments.

Grieg, Nielsen, Sibelius, Stenhammar, Atterberg, and more. Scandinavian composers have earned a seat at the Grown Up Table, along with the Germans, Russians, Italians, French and English.

Thanks for posting this music! I love Atterberg's music, and this symphony is perhaps his best.

Great symphony and thanks to KuhlauDilfeng4, I have learned an enormous amount about some wonderful obscure composers and I hope he continues to post these excellent recordings. My question about this particular one however: what is the significance of the illustration showing the statue of Liberty and the original twin towers and their relationship to this particular piece of music?

I played this symphony once for someone and they asked if it was Star Wars. It /does/ have a very John Williams-esque vibe in places.

A fair performance but there is something insubstantial about it. Jarvi's version isn't a patch on Ari Rasilainen or, best of all, Stig Westerberg - czcams.com/video/1ySSn7UFxQA/video.html
