Can’t believe they gave her this fate. Another legacy character that was done so dirty. 😢
Same. Now I understand why David said this movie was the riskiest film he had ever done
@@josephhernandez1885 I think that was David's way of admitting he screwed up. Halloween Ends and Exorcist: Believer show that he's not cut out for horror.
He can do dark comedy VERY well, but not straight horror.
@@thedrewdogi mean he did Halloween and Halloween Kills very well but when it comes down to legacy characters and giving them a bad fate, that is a whole different story. Plus I feel that the life of Chris and Regan was plain wrong.
How I thought it would be is that Chris gives up her acting career and joined the convent. Regan lives her life as Laurie Strode did. Once they hear about what has happened, both legacy characters unite to defeat the ultimate evil that scarred them years prior. That is how I would see with legacy characters: they learned from their past, they prepare themselves, once they hear evil is back, they step out of hiding to fight back
@@josephhernandez1885 I thought Halloween 2018 was just okay, had some great kills but the dialogue was forced and the Doctor twist was pointless.
Then Kills "topped" the dialogue with the whole "Evil Dies Tonight" thing, and I believe it's because they had no intentions of doing a trilogy and were forced into it by the Akhad's.
I think this film would have done better to exclude Chris and Regan entirely and just focus on the children and the cruel twist ending. But they can't resist tossing member berries at us in the form of legacy characters.
At least she didn’t die and she reunited with Regan in the end. Even though it’s bittersweet because she can no longer see her. 😞
David Gordon Green has a flawless way of wasting legacy characters in everything he does. That takes skill to be that consistent
Lol. You re right. He knows how to ruin something
I can’t believe they did this to Ellen Burstyn’s character. It’s totally insulting to bring her back 50 years later, hype up fans of the original, only to do this to her. They could’ve used her presence in a smarter, more creative way…even if her screen time was limited
Also, you’d think Chris would take more caution with Katherine considering what happened to Regan…
It feels the same thing as they did Sally in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022
@@josephhernandez1885 YES! My exact thoughts too. And the way David Gordon Green left Laurie hospitalized in Halloween Kills the whole time lol
@@TheGreekPianist hate me for saying this, but Halloween Kills was a whole homage of the original sequel from '81. My thoughts on direct sequels is that the whole point of a legacy character or characters to return in the new one is to educate the newbies (rebooted cast) to defeat the horror icon that scarred them for life. Over the years, they've trained themselves as Sarah Connor did in The Terminator movies, prepare themselves and once evil is out for fresh meat, then that's when both groups join forces into defeating the evil once and for all. If it takes years, then so be it. But yes, this and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 did our legacy folks dirty BIG time. Plus the screen time for Ellen was not cool.
Michael Keaton’s Batman in The Flash…Luke, Han and Leia in the new Star Wars trilogy…Hollywood really loves killing off our childhood heroes and legacy icons.
@@josephhernandez1885 EXACTLY !! Sally was done so wrong. If anything, she should’ve been the survivor instead of two newbies.
“I’m not an exorcist”
2 seconds later: *tries to cast out demon*
In the name of her beloved daughter Regan, lol.
@@hector-sauvage 🤣
Apparently these scenes where chopped down, sounds like chris was desperate and snuck up there to ask the demon about where regan is/ is she dead
@@saintniccage2818
No. She's suffering the eternal torments for all eternity in Hell
This movie seriously impressed me....they actually made a sequel WORSE than The Heretic.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. At least Exorcist II, despite being a crappy movie, had some ambitious ideas. Believer, on the other hand, was completely soulless. The fact this one ignores the events of Exorcist III and the TV series leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
lol You're right lol
@@halloweenfridayHey, The Heretic and Believer are actually good sequels. Not a big deal.
@@rachelodom7519 to each their own.
I would not go that far, but they should have gone closer to what the original author would have done. Which I have a feeling Blatty would not have gone with the witch doctor theme.
The demon knows Regan is still alive. That's why he stabbed Chris eyes. To make sure she will never be able to see Regan again
“They didn’t let me in the room of the exorcism because of the PaTrIaRcHy!”
*goes into room of possessed child.
Gets eyes stabbed out*
This is why amateurs should not be exorcist's, insults to Blatty and the original source material.
That was REALLY a line in the movie? 🙄 I haven’t seen it.
I'm technically paraphrasing but not by much. The exact exhange is, "They didn't let me in the room during my daughter's exorcism." "Why?" "My opinion? Because I'm not part of their damn patriarchy."
@letstalkmovies4801 Look up that scene where she is confronting the possessed child, you see the restraints but the room is full of potential weapons, Look at the original and how the room was set up, this character learned nothing and paid the price.
Yes, the criticism of the patriarchy made no sense when she was an atheist also.
Chris joins the list of horror movie legacy characters who got screwed over along with Sally Hardesty and Dewey Riley.
along with the legend himself Michael Myers
Sally doesn't count as canon. I'm not saying this like it's confirmed or anything, no, it simply does not deserve to be canon. They really brought back an iconic survivor, who has no business with Leatherface other than the death of her brother, killed her off in 2 minutes and for no reason to at all. The original actress passed away in 2014, nearly a decade before that movie, so good god let my girl Sally rest ffs. Sally's fate is not canon to me
Now is that how you treat a legacy character?
Man they did a legacy character real dirty. This was not what i expected to happen in this sequel
With Hollywood’s track record recently, it was expected
@@sweetcinnamonpnchkin the same Hollywood that made horror movies based on Winnie the Pooh, The Grinch, and now Mickey Mouse.
@@uncannyvalley1457
That’s not Hollywood! 🤣 Those films are made by independent filmmakers gleefully jumping at the chance to rip intellectual properties to shreds and make a sadistic mockery of the original.

It’s amazing that the possessed Katherine didn’t kill Chris MacNeil after stabbing her eyes out.
It's looks like 1973 was looking back by back before
Its not evil dead bruhh
One thing I DO compliment is the voiceover work. The voiceover actor did a great job replicating Burke Dennings’ voice. Got chills when I heard that
True, and admittedly a pretty good Pazuzu voice....But nothing beats Mercedes Mcambridge's voice work and what she put herself through
@@TabathaTMartin Yeah I agree, Mercedes will always be the best! But I thought it was very close. I think she did all the voiceover work except for the Burke Dennings bit when Regan spun her head around; I think the Burke Dennings actor provided that part 🙂

Guys, you don't understand. This Scene is actually a metaphor for what fans of the Original would like to do to themselves after watching this movie.
Funny how Katherine pulls the covers over herself afterwards like she’s wore out and about to take a nap.
This entire scene makes no sense. Why would Chris MacNeil, a woman who was a first hand witness to her daughter’s possession, but who did NOT witness the exorcism, think she could go one on one with the demon? One could argue she spent her life after the events of The Exorcist learning as much as she could about exorcism. But even then, the demon wouldn’t acknowledge Chris as anyone of authority. Plus, just a few scenes prior, I believe she says she’s no exorcist. And then tries to exorcise the demon…DGG make up your mind.
Somewhere in heaven, William Friedkin is extremely angry of what David Gordon Green has done in the legacy sequel of the original Exorcist movie from 1973.
Blatty would be pissed
He was quoted as saying that if the spiritual realm exists, he was going to come back as a ghost and make DGG’s life a living hell 😂
That open your eyes line went hard tho
I just noticed the British accent is Chris's friend Burke Dennings voice. In The Exorcist, Regan killed Burke and threw him out the window.
The Demond knows she still alive; so he will make sure, she will never see her again.
Never thought of that
Honestly when I saw this (which was spoiled in one of the teasers terrible marketing) I was like damn that was fast she came and left 2 mins later. She was really stupid like she really thought she did something when she was holding the cross. How she didn’t even recognize the girl was still possessed when she was put onto the bed again like what. I will say stab to the eyes with a crucifix is pretty brutal it got a reaction out of me but what a waste of a legacy character that honestly wasn’t necessary whatsoever.
That was kind of the point, though. The idea was that because she didn't see Regan's exorcism, she didn't understand the tricks the demon would play on her.
Also thinking they're probably settinf Chris up as a parallel to St. Lucy for the future trilogy installments
She didn't deserve this
So stupid they did this to her. Also all that work that went into the demon makeup that is only shown for half a second is such a violation.
I’m glad I didn’t see that in theaters (even though I now work at Cinemark). They definitely did her dirty. They really didn’t have to do that.
At least Dewey had his moments and went out trying to finish the job rather than letting the killer get away.
Yeah me either.
This scene is very symbolic due to the fact Chris wasn't in the room during Regan's exorcism and she deep down wishes she had been present because curiosity.
Yea
The one she regret for
Ellen Burstyn must've needed a paycheck. Horrible film.
She did. Self admitted. She turned it down, they increased the pay offer, she then extorted a sizeable sum out of them, shot her scenes, and made off with the bag! 😂 I can respect that to be fair, she knew what she was getting herself into, might as well get as much money as possible!
That's way painful as all hell! As i seen movies that had stuff like this, this is going to give me nightmare forever.
Having this happen to her after what felt like 3 minutes of screentime, in the theater I said out loud “BRUH”
Lol and the demon is British 🤣
I think that was a feeble attempt at invoking the original, the director that Regan killed by throwing him down the steps.
Not trying to bash the idea of the voice but I always wonder why they don’t try reinventing it kinda like how for example the intro to devil may cry having three voice talking different order then the real voice speaks the idea of thinking it’s in your head but the voice confirms it’s really happening - kinda like dawn of the dead reinventing the zombies and making them run like sprint athletes
Hollywood hates their own characters so much.
But... but the patriarchy!
0:08 Peter Strahm suspecting that Mark Hoffman originally thought in Saw V be like
Even though ahe can no longer see her daughter again she may have a gift. Cuz shes a spiritualist and knows all the forms of religion she can still help out even though shes blind she could be a cunned woman which if u notice in the final vattle we see her reach her hands out for something i think spiritually she was there helping angela. It kept jumping from the girls to chris at times which makes me believe she gas a power inside her.
Wow....that was devoid of absolutely ANY tension, scares, atmosphere, shock or gravitas. Y'know...all things the original had.
This movie makes the Heretic and everything after it look good like the original '73 version
Anyone who says "The Beginning" is better is a liar, plain and simple.
The Heretic has some interesting ideas, it's just that the execution is bad and Burton is miscast and over the top hammy.
@@hector-sauvageThe actors got the rug pulled from under their feet to be fair. Linda Blair signed on to the second film because the original script was supposedly really good, but it went through so many rewrites that it became the incomprehensible mess it is today.
The original idea for the sequel was to have been Kinderman reopening the case and interviewing those involved, a low budget rehash using unused footage from the original. Would have been a more conventional sequel, but I never really bought Blair's claim that she signed on for some masterpiece, sounds like damage control to me.@@horrorfanandy4647
David Gordon Green must be stopped.
No S***! what was your First clue
Omg when i saw this sence I was like omg is she going to die why her !😨
Pros:
This movie looks more darker and unsettling.
Cons:
From this trailer this just looks like a revision of the original
Especially the cursing. The original was scary cause the demon felt human. It felt realistic. The cursing was to disrupt the priests it cares weight.
These demons feel like there just thrown in to be scary. And the cursing is thrown in just cause the original on had cursing.
There’s barely any information in this seen. No connection so the characters don’t hold weight.
The original the characters felt like humans not just robots being portrayed as a human.
Add to the fact it’s not even scary, and overused the jump scares. Not to mention yes rehashes a lot of things.
And what even happened to the girls in the woods? It’s never explained
That was personal
Brought Ms. Burstyn back, only to do this. Ugh.
It felt like a clickbait, teasing bringing her back just to disrespect and sideline her like this.
How did this get approved?
They basically destroyed her character.
Chris macneil he realize the named child the Katrine most kidnapped😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Poor Chris 😢
I swear movies today love kicking Legacy characters aside. I wish Ellen Burstyn never said yes to be a part of this movie.
It’s the voice; that sound scary
Wel she definitely didn’t see that coming.
jeez...that was very depressing...
Forreal
This scene should not have been filmed at all . It way underated Ellen Burstyn, the movie audience, and the movie franchise to boot. Sure it was shocking but it was really un-kind to a cult figure. This was one step too far (in my opinion) & spoiled the last part of the movie, despite of the brief return of someone special at the end...hmm...
This scene
So bad 😢
Thank you David Gordon Dingus.
That's his real name.
I knew DGG was gonna do something like this to Chris. 😒 As soon as it was announced Ellen was returning. Guess he's trying to be "shocking" but all he did was disrespect the character and the fans of the original. Bringing her back just to do this was a total waste of time. The whole movie was, honestly.
Terrible film absolutely ruined what could have been
Poor Katherine
Well... at least Chris knows now what Regan must have felt when Pazuzu made her... do what she did with the crucifix. Yay for mother-daughter bonding?
This is kinda confusing to me. Chris believes the demon possessing the girl is the same one who possessed Regan, but apparently it's Lamashtu and not Pazuzu. Why would Lamashtu know about Regan? And how come she knows how Pazuzu called Regan (c*nting daughter)?
I don't understand why they are insinuating that it's Pazuzu when in fact it isn't?
Honestly it would've just made more sense if they just reconned it to be Lamashtu from the beginning since Pazuzu typically protects people possessed by her.
@@TothanCrawk I think so too. Chris told the demon that they've met before and demon doesn't deny it which would imply that it was Lamashtu who also possessed Regan. Unless I'm missing something, I don't know how else to make sense of it. I know that Pazuzu and Lamashtu are enemies, so it doesn't make sense for them to communicate and possess little girls.

If I were the director, I would shoot a scene where Chris doesn't lose both eyes and use that in the film
The scene where he lost both eyes will be used as a deleted scene in the BD special features
A la mierda con esta escena, y a la mierda con David Gordon Green. Que falta tan grande de respeto.

Damn people need to understand that horror is not action mixed with gore and jumpscares.
The original exorcist is still one of the scariest movie of all time just because know hows to balance violence, believable and realistic action scene, gore and atmosphere.
Kiddie linda blair
“in the name of my beloved daughter Regan” who’s gonna tell her that isn’t a powerful name for an exorcism 😭
I will be remaking this scene but instead, I'll have Pixel confronting, battling against The Maw (from The Medium) inside of Annie's Body.
This was stupid and unfair to Chris McNill's dignity.

So glad that this isn't canon. What a gargantuan waste of time and money.
That old woman’s voice reminds me of Jane Fonda
I felt so sick after that🤢
Thanks a lot David, first Laurie and now Chris. Who's next?! Seriously why do they keep letting him reboot horror films?! You'd think after the failure that Halloween Ends, David would stick to indie films!
It’s not actually a “reboot”. This is actually a sequel. If this was a reboot, then Ellen wouldn’t have be playing Chris again

Far more scary than the movie.

So ridiculous that this scene is almost comical. I hope they have no future plans to make any more Exorcist films.
She was there for nothing, like u bring back a legacy character and do that to her? Kinda messed up. And i was too blind by the hype honestly to see who was directing the film. Same director as the recent Halloween films, i should've seen this film's failure coming
After watching this movie, I closed the the book for the last two sequels. Which includes forgetting this happened. David Gordon Green wins again by cursing a promising trilogy sequence.😔👎
Its violence
So, its a diferent demon this time?
The demon is Lamashtu
Meh she's rich and probably put at the very top of a waiting list for doners.
Smh 🤦♂️ trying to cast out an evil spirit/demon without the name and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. Will never work.
All these modern sequels do is undermine or kill people from the originals. Star Wars takes the cake, one by one, offing the three main leads from the OT. I can only assume they’ll kill Regan in “Deceiver”. And in the third one, they’ll figure out a way to bring back Karras and Merrin…so they can kill them too. And Karl, Willie and Sharon. And Mary Jo Perrin. All these legacy sequels love offing everyone who gives them a reason to exist in the first place. Seems a little shortsighted and ungrateful. 😂
She shoulda seen that coming(no pun intended)
