- This cloud forest has been on Amelia's bucket list since we moved to Ecuador nearly 5 years ago, and we finally made it!
It's located just 2 hours west of Quito, and it's a truly magical place. It's very popular with foreign and Ecuadorian tourists, so the town is very tourist oriented.
The Mindo Cloud Forest is mostly known for the wide variety of butterflies and birds, including hummingbirds, toucans, tanigers and many more. It's a bird watchers paradise!
But it's also popular with outdoor adventurers who enjoy hiking, riding ATVs, river rafting, mountain biking, etc. If you're an outdoors person, you'll love Mindo Ecuador!

My absolute favorite place so far in central and south America. I want to semi retire in Mindo. I don't care about beaches, they are lovely, but give me a more temperate climate. They didn't get shots of the hummers as big as robins soooooo much to absorb

Both of you, your Spanish is getting better and better. Jp has less accent than Amelia. Just remember its not english with spanish words, the sound for "Que" is not "Kay" its more like "Ke" working on your accents while learning is the best way to end up with little or no accent. Hear how others say things even though you know the pronunciation. Accent free is how you want to be (or as close as possible). Great job guys. I am proud of you!
Spanish and English are so similar increible =incredible ,comprende = comprehend ,progelma = problem . even though I was born in the USA I didn't speak English in First grade because no one spoke it at home ,we had no TV to hear English but the teacher was so patient with me and I surprised everyone in a couple of months I was jabbering away in English because Mrs.Corn pointed out the similarly of the languages ! Hooray for Teachers EVERY Where 🤗🙌👏👍

Just went to Mindo and Ibarra this past week (my wife is ecuadorian). I love finding the beautiful hostals tucked away in nature and relaxing....mindo was super nice but my favorite this time was Hostal Caranvalle in Ibarra.....my all time fav still is Casa Suiza down in otavalo on the rio Napo

Mindo was incredible. So many hummingbirds. Javier was our guide as well. Hopefully you get to see the Ant Pita. We went to his families place for lunch which over looked the beautiful mountains. We did the same thing with the hummers. We bought one of his beautiful oil paintings of a hummer.

Aw! I love Hummingbirds. I used to live in Pacific Palisades, CA, and my exhusband and I chose plants for our backyard garden that would attract humingbirds. I loved watching them but boy would that buzzing sound scare me lol

Your visit to Mindo helped us decide to stay 2 nights instead of a day trip. Platinum Toucan looks great and quite affordable with a good location near town. We were looking at an ecology but are happy with the change.

I was there 2 weeks ago and was lucky to visit both butterfly sanctuaries 🙏🦋 Love the big blue 🦋 and the stained glass ones
I really enjoyed my short stay in Mindo. The motorcycle ride to Mindo from Santo Domingo, and then from Mindo to Quito, were like Mindo itself. A tremendous amount of beauty in a small package!
That is also a great description for the Butterfly/Orchid/Hummingbird museum. The various states of the pupae in the cabinets was also interesting, and I probably spent an hour watching the hummingbirds trying to get some decent photos.
Did you go to the chocolate factory? El Quetzal I think it is called. I cannot imagine Amelia letting you skip that. A very interesting tour, and yummy chocolate!
I had an amazing trout meal in a small restaurant next to the square, including a beer, for a little over $10.
Mindo is a very touristy town, like Montañita, but seemed more safe and family friendly. Waaaay less public weed use, for sure, and a higher ratio of restaurants to bars. Plus you can get a proper cup of coffee!!

It’s an internationally famous tourist town and the prices reflect that. I’m guessing locals pay less for everything.
