Probably one of the most melancholic musical instruments of all time.
Claude Perts Yes 🌲✨😪🍂
Listen to John Dowland’s viol music
I loved the sound of the Mellotron from the 70's. Mike Pinder was the best.
It has such an unearthly quality as well
I would say the most dramatic bc melancholy depends on the tone
It's like rehearing all the childhood soundtracks from cartoons and old documentaries.
Man... This feels like old movies. Such a classic, magical sound.
Wallay 😂😂
If only Yamaha made a Mellotron Reface.
this! it has to happen!
Yeah that's gonna be cool but that probably won't happen anytime soon because Yamaha don't own mellotron and has done enough copying other instruments like Roland TR808, the Hammond organ and many more under carefully selected pseudonyms for copyright reasons... and for that reason the TR 808 drum voice on my psr keyboard is called Analog T8
The mellotron just sounds so incredibly evil. It's amazing.
Lisa has created what is arguably the best demonstration of the Mellotron I've ever seen! Nice job, Lisa!
who is this Lisa?
Lisa Bella Donna of House Syntharion, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Knobs and the Faders, the Mother of Moog, the Khaleesi of the Great Sea of Waveforms, the Unsilent, the Breaker of Patch Cable Knots.
You use this person's traditionally female name so many times lol
Much cute, such affirmation 🙄
@@enjoixander you should leave.
...........Beatles, King Crimson,
etc. freakin' CLASSIC!
Great performance Lisa, you
really showed how versatile
this updated version is!
Earth and Fire
That's Right!! Some of the best Mellotron is on their records!!
even lynyrd skynyrd used one
The moody blues
I love how you can mix one instrument with another.
jsilence418 it’s so expressive and provides such continuous flow. The sounds do not glitch when you change tape patches. This combined with the EarthQuakerDevices avalanche run creates hours and hours of limitless sonic painting. This instrument cuts right through live also. Unlike any other laptop or sampler that people like to compare this to. This is much more than all that it’s a true instrument. I can set this on top of my vintage M 400 Mellotron and it stands right up to it. Just more sounds available....
@@LisaBellaDonnaMusic it's the mellotron master!
All the eerie sounds and music from early Columbo-episodes in just one single instrument - fantastic! And the lady looks like from exact the same era...
Vibraphone/strings and harpsichord/strings so unbelievably gorgeous
The first thing that comes to mind is the Twilight Zone and old cartoons. So heartwarming.
I have an M400 I found next to a dumpster in the early 90s (No joke: it was in rough shape, but I've since had it refurbed-$$$...) and although I love it (and it never leaves my studio...), my 4000D mini is eminently more practical, has superior fidelity and an unmatched scope of tones (due to the Chamberlin sounds, etc.), and is actually usable for gigs...!
does it have a satisfying amount of sounds??
@@RioYugo Yes! and expansion cards are available (though not eminently necessary...)!!!
I've been pining over analog mellotrons pretty much my whole life and have still never gotten to play one, yet you find one next to a dumpster? My jealousy cannot be overstated...
I literally dream about finding crazy hardware in thrift stores and you took that dream to a whole new level. Homie you found a mellotron next to A DUMPSTER?!?!? I envy you sir
Pretty much every one who makes movie scores would want this, its awesome.
Jannis de Reu No because they have Kontakt libraries.
It world would be great for original compositions made for period pieces.
for a more lofi production, yeah
Perfect instrument for really Bad Films from the late 50s and early 60's.
I love all things analog and typically don't like a lot of digital products but this is an exception. I guess it helps that its using 24 bit uncompressed samples. I love the design with the displays and pitch and the ability to mix between two sounds. This is truly a modern masterpiece very much worth its price tag.
using 24bit samples, yet.... this will NEVER come close to an actual analog mellotron running tape at 15ips.
Every kids film from the 70s and early 80’s just flooded in to my head
that beautiful slow vibe sound at 3:32! stunning!
The intro to Strawberry Fields is the most beautiful intro in the world.
Ahh... No.
Paul wrote the intro, plays it
Between me and you
It sounds like hobbit music to me and I’ve never seen lord of the rings. I just know it’s hobbit music
Love her smile when she's playing - having one of these must be pure joy!
Nothing sounds like a mellotron. Brings back memories, very good memories.
Perry Pelican 😂
Sounds like children's TV from the 1970s
Thank you! I've been greatly inspired by the Soundtrack orchestrations within the film "Charlotte's Web" The Acoustic & Electric Harpsichord tape sets on here are so mind blowing, they're a great opportunity if you don't own or have access to a Baldwin Electric or a college that owns an acoustic Harpsichord. Sounds amazing.
The '73 Charlotte's Web?
Yes! :)
No I'm not fortunate enough to try the real thing, I'm not too hot on keys, I really enjoyed your playing. Inspirational (and now I know where you got your inspiration from too!)
Thank you very much Jack!
I've been fascinated by mellotrons rescently for having the ability to sound extremely nostalgic despite me not even being alive at the time those sounds were recorded. Cool stuff.
I want this so bad but the price of this thing is out of this world.
m tron pro ;)
new Mellotron costs about $8k to $10k . A working vintage M400 about $4k to $k and that does not include extra tape racks.
€2000 ain't THAT bad, not in the world of Synthesizers at least.
@@CIubDuck its not a synth though its digital samples of a mellotron and a keyboard. the price is stupid
@@CIubDuck Yes, that thing is more expensive than a Nord Electro 6. I like its simple interface, but that's not reason enough to drop 2k.
My birthday is coming and I accept this beautiful machine as a gift...
Pedro Ventura 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nah no one loves you that much trust
I love all of the different sounds this instrument can make! I also love this demo, and the enthusiasm of the player (as well as the awesome outfit, jewelry, and nails lol).
4:40 -- this part is so beautiful. Great job to the person performing!! Givin' me Stereolab vibes :)
WOW!!! this just shows you how much technology has come, since we can replicate or recreate an old instrument as close or even better than the original instrument.
Wow. This video really sold me. I never thought anything digital could sound like the real thing. Great playing and excellent to see her wobble the pitch to show off how natural and real it sounds. I am probably soon to be having less money.
Did you get it yet mate? :)
I really love both the instrument and the demo.
This is one of the few times I’ve been felt compelled to comment simply because of the playing. I am now realizing the last time i did so, it was also Lisa Bella Donna doing the playing. Simply fantastic!!!!
The pizzicato violin sound is amazing
Omg all those beaver episodes and old news shows and movies galore
FINALLY the Mellotron getting its love
That last one she played was just groovy baby
Fantastic playing! It took me places. True magic and the best demo of this instrument I've ever heard.
Soarornor Erkskindl Thank you so much. Been in mad love with the instrument since Age 7 after hearing Genesis Live ❤️
use mine all the time, especialy with our ambient space music.............truly gives it a gothic/ retro feel. superb!
The M4000D should include such an excellent musician in the package. All hail to Lisa.
arnieslove ❤️🙌🏻❤️
I want to hear Lisa playing with the Moodies and King Crimson, she would really spice their songs up.
will this lady drop the hottest album of 2018 or not
Silva João I’m trying to get more records out there!
is there somewhere one can find what's already there? congratulations on your amazing music, keep on keyboarding!
Please an album with the mellotron some jangly guitars, woofy farting p bass sounds and lo fi drums is what the world needs! If these are the kind of melodies your just jamming out I'll buy an album in a heartbeat!
jellyandskeleton I promise I will! I love all those elements! My band EYE has a bit of that! “vision and ageless light” Thank you for listening!
Listening to it now! It sounds great I'll pick up a copy on juno.
Really liking the last demo arrangement at 4:29, the harpsicorde with strings. 👌
The pitch effect make it sound like an old movie, and it's great!
i don´t see the point in spending 2K on a digital mellotron.
the magic of the originals is the tapes and the sound of those
if it´s digital you might as well use a plugin and a midi controller for a fraction of the price
pointless
KontaKt and a Roland controller give me that great 'tron sound along with much, much more for less than 700.00 :-)
Well some musicians want an actual instrument. You can say the same thing about a Prophet 6, an ARP or a Hammond organ
You are buying a hardware/software. I’m pretty sure they know the most on how mellotron should be emulated (compare to all around software sampler out there) and have the best mellotron to sample. Still overpriced tho
You do know that these are not mass produced right? It's not like you can walk into a Sam Ash and buy one.
Modestoney well if you go on tour or take it to the road is better to have one of these than a vintage one
Love the compressed samples. Reminds me of the SNES games
Zelda
For those who want something similar, the Nord Wave 2 offers a wide range of licensed Mellotron and Chamberlin sounds and rhythms. You can easily split the keyboard and load rhythmic patterns on your left hand and leads on your right. It sounds amazing too.
The Nord Stage 3 does as well. They're glorious! And, you can have 2 Mellotron/Chamberlin/synth sounds, 2 pianos, and 2 organs all at the same time on a patch as layers or zones.
The Casio CT-S1 has the mellotron sound as well.
Thank you! I bought one!
Thanks for the great recommendation!
@@saharatul only the tape flute
Ahhh! Early owner here, love mine to death!
since you own one maybe you can confirm this. I'm told that the note duration of any given pressed key is limited just like the original (as if it ran out of tape). is this true? if so, why would they do this? I can't see that doing that would be a desireable "feature".
yeps. depends on what "instrument" is chosen, it is up to 8 seconds. as the M4000D replicates a real M400 tapemachine, they had to nail that point too. remember: the recordings made in the 50ties are exactly that long! if they had chosen to do it longer, they would have had to loop parts, and that would sound shite - I own a Nord Electro 3, where you can choose to have the Mellotron Samples looped, serioulsy, I don't like it.
btw: I do not own the M4000D mini, but the original bigger version. already Since 2011 (2 digit serial number)
I see it as a good thing to force you to play something different after 8 seconds - if your holding the same key that long, your probably boring people to tears. One other thing to note is that there is a settings menu on this where you can tweak things like rewind speed, sample start/stop points, etc. No, you can't loop the sample but it does provide some options that are useful to modernize some of the quirks of the real tape models -particularly having to wait for a key to "rewind" before you can hit it again. In short thought, if the key looping is a big deal, then this is probably not the instrument you are looking for....agree with Rafi's comment about the looping samples on the Electro - it just doesn't sound good like that.
Wish I could find someone to restore mine for reasonable sum. Alas
What is the difference between the two apart from size and cost?
I have played an original and I would this over it in a heartbeat, amazing...
Flashback of a 1970’s Saturday night horror film on channel 9 tv with these creatures that live under the stairs!
That bass flute giving me boondocks vibes
Best demo of this keyboard - or indeed any keyboard - I have seen. Brilliantly done by Lisa Bella Donna!
Sunny Bear THANK YOU ❤️
Sunny Bear sunny bear is a total gay name
Finally people are making usable sounds
WHO IS THIS PLAYING SHE HAS VIBE FOR DAYS
Lisa Bella Donna over at Earthquaker Devices!
Also she plays in a band called EYE, whose latest album, Vision and Ageless Light was released on The Laser's Edge. I bought the clear vinyl pressing and the album blew me away, particularly dig her synth and Mellotron work on that album. It's strange the first second I saw this video (actually, right after the intro with the Strawberry Fields thing), I knew it had to be Lisa Bella Donna, then I see her face and I was right!
I thought it was a Jewish grandmother playing until they showed her face!
I think her power comes from that ring
She should be the only person allowed, in the universe, to play the Mellotron. Keeper of the Mellotron. The Metatron of the Mellotron .
I have no idea how you guys did it, but this video clip looks straight out of a Dario Argento film. Excellent cinematography.
The perfect Dungeon Synth instrument.
All it needs is Oliver Postgate (RIP) narrating over the top of it.
i remember some old series of the 70 s. when hearing a Mellotron.
those sounds are stuuupidly accurate. I want one so badly
Memories from so many films are brought back from this thing
That harpsichord mixed with strings sounds like every 1970s TV drama.
It reminds me of the music Riichiro Manabe wrote for The Vampire Doll (1970)
That sound at the end is amazing!!!!!!
Sweet! Love it. I'd never heard a harp sound till now. The cello is very scary!
When it hit that bass flute I was fully convinced this women had made the soundtrack to the legend of zelda
Although it's expensive. A new Mellotron with tape is going to cost at least $10,000 all said and done so sometimes you just get what you need. If you have the extra cash I would say go for it. The sound quality has a certain character that I don't think you can get with modern samples. I suppose you can also load Mellotron samples into a Nord or Kurzweil too but I think with the simplicity of this instrument it invites you a bit more to experiment with the sounds rather than just playing them as straight samples.
I think a Mellotron would be a nice touch when put next to some analog gear like Moogs or Oberheims or Prophets. Especially once you start running this thing through effects. :)
You definitely got the right person to demo this
Jsn Sdx ❤️
I LOVE that woman, she is soooo cool and perfect to test a mellotron
@unarmed blackman Clearly not. Are you trying to be funny or are you just plain stupid?
Is it just me or is this homie sprinkling some Zelda in there???
NinJaRed that piano and guitar setting is so Zelda
I hear it big time in the bass flute and strings combo as well
Maybe they did use an original mellotron for the Nintendo 64 games because I know they definitely didn't have an orchestra playing the score.
Bass flute reminded me of Pokemon, I think Pokemon Emerald
I'm hearing some resident evil directors cut in there too. Not the original, the revised score
A few of those sounds sound spooky as hell
Great film, no talking, just inspiring, beautiful sounds.
This would just be cool to own! But, OMG, that Slow Vibraphone/Strings Low A segment too me to heaven.
:Oh my god always wanted one of these........beautiful......
The most classy of classic keyboards 🗝️ 🤷♂️
if this demo was an album i would buy it. thats just some amazing tasteful playing right there! now im gonna listen to her works
Where Lassie meets Mrs. Marple ... Great!
We heartily approve of this demonstration of the power and the glory of our Mellotron Overlords!
Sounds amazing, and nice playing too!
she "nailed" it
love at first note
Past is back, what a fantastic sound , incredible
Yeah Lisa Bella Donna! This thing sounds wicked. Throw in a few EQD pedals and you're golden. Love the range of sounds!
These things are awesome. I wish I had one. I do have a keyboard from the 1970's that's kind of like a Mellotron that I write some of my music on. The slow strings with vibrato actually sounded like music I used to hear in dreams as a kid, amazing!
this comment intrigued me to look at your channel for some reason. very glad i did :):):)
One could make a whole retro symphony with this. Great stuff! :D
This is absolutely wonderful. Will buy if the need ever arises.
Guitarist here, but I absolutely love the sound of the Mellotron.
I'm almost convinced that this is what the Twilight Princess soundtrack was made on.
Such incredible sounds. Nothing sounds like the Mellotron!
Nothing except for the numerous samples that you can load up and play on your midi controller keyboard. The samples in this machine are EXACTLY the same as any you would get in Kontakt.
I've wondered why this hasn't been a thing, and now I finally see that it is!
This video is how I became aware of Lisa! Such a lovely and incredibly talented human being.
The possibilities you can do with this and add more to your music! First thing I would learn is the little jingle when Metroid gets a powerup! It has that mellotron sound!
mellotron forever !! beautiful nostalgic
yo, this gal gives off some rad witch vibes!! also this sounds amazing!
gal? guess again
Brian Quinn nope, no second guessing needed. she’s a talented woman, and you’re a pathetic bigot. sorry not sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@ghostsax Brian Quinn and that David Schlotterback character are a couple of morons. Both probably suffer from "Itty Bitty Dicky" syndrome. What a couple of pathetic losers. lol I'm glad you called the one dipshit out though. Nicely played!
Beautiful
As she plays... the big box ring slowly opens ... and a golden scarab beetle casually climbs out and walks over the keys.
0:13 Radiohead - Motion Picture Soundtrack and Alice Coltrane - Blue Nile vibes.
That flute vibrato sounds nice
I love the huge ring on her left hand.
I WANT THIS SO BAD! Especially after hearing "Strawberry Fields Forever" by The Beatles and the album "Their Satanic Majesties Request" by The Rolling Stones!
Vincent Price and Peter Cushing called... they want their Melli's back.
This thing sounds utterly beautiful. Great demo.

Finally, i see you are a intelligent individual ;)

Lisa Bella Donna legend!🙌🏻 Thanks
CHUCKY Thank you!! Excited to hear your extrapolation of my riff! It’s the second movement of another piece you can find on CZcams entitled “The hollow of clearwell castle”
I was just reading about Opeth. One of the things mentioned about the band was that they use a Mellotron. I didn't know what that was, so I checked out some videos, first watched some demonstrations of large analog models, and now this. This instrument is VERY impressive! I am wondering if there are models like this one that have more keys?
you could always plug a larger midi keyboard into the MIDI ports on the back for more keys! as for if the samples support more than 2 octaves, i dont know for sure. but most devices like this work that way. hope this helps!
Great sound! Really realistic, the violin, the flute, etc
