- After 7 years of using Premiere Pro, I finally caved into my CZcams comments and gave Davinci Resolve a try. Now that I've fully switched over, I wanted to share what I've learned from that process to hopefully help you make the switch as smooth as possible.

Hands down the best and most concise video I have found on making this switch happen.
I watched a 2hr and another 4hr Resolve Course here on YT and I learned more in this video than the ENTIRE 6 hours I spent on the others. Thanks man!
I've never laughed out loud watching any DaVinci Resolve tutorial videos, until now. The FART BOOM.mp3 killed me. Humor is on another level. LIFETIME SUBSCRIBER!!!
Man this is exactly what I wanted and your style just made it perfect. Felt like a friend is sharing it with me.
Hope you have made or make more such videos of transitioning will be really helpful
One of the most helpful videos I have ever watched! Nice one Zach!
In the process of finishing my last project in Premiere before the big move. I have done some practicing in Resolve and so far I love it!
The colour grade trick of copying the grades between clips… wow! What a time saver that is! 👌🏻
Dude this is exactly what I needed. I have been editing in premiere for the last 7 or 8 years. This definitely demystified the switch. Excited to try it out. Thanks for the tips!
I'v just switched, and im loving it. Refreshing, after years of adobe workflow it feels smoother and organic.
Refreshing is the perfect word. I feel like my hair is growing back from lack of stress
@@ZachMayfield Hahaha, same here, i even started to push out the trauma of using proxy files! :)
are you still using davinci one year later?
Been on Premiere for as long as I can remember, and was of course overwhelmed by this change, but this video is great, and helped me a lot thank you, youre a legend!
Thank you thank you thank you.. i was watching the resolve website tutorials but they aren't making the exact style of videos there that i make. But this is exactly what i needed to quickly go through the basics. But i wished you would've shared the "speed ramping" and "masking" methods also but maybe for another day. But hey, Thanks again zach!
no thank YOU! I thought about including those things but honestly my knowledge is very limited on those topics. Although I did see that Resolve's latest update has some crazy magic masking that I plan on testing!
I really love the way you teach and explain core concepts. i've been editing for a while and wanted to switch, but you not only explaining a tool/workflow but also giving examples for their utility really helped me understand and "get it".
Great work, in another life you would've been a teacher for sure!
Fun Facts: Davinci systems used to cost upwards of $800-900k back in the 80s and then a decade ago, Davinci Resolve with no editing, fusion, fairlight used to cost $25K, and now we have a free version or $300 one time. They are practically giving away this software.
Easily one of the greatest CZcams tutorials… of all time. Thank you Zach!! Been teetering on switching from premiere to Davinci for yonks now and finally made the plunge which led me here. Literally how you explained the pain points of premiere is my internal rage dialogue every day working in it. RIP Adobe.

Such a great thought-of, simple, natural, funny, yet not overproduced and manipulatively overthought content from Zach.
I recently started using the program as well, I know most of (but not well) what's thought by you, but it was still a pleasure to dive through, laugh a bit, and learn a few bit tiny things from you. A pleasure watching your content, keep it real.
Wow, I bit the bullet and got Davinci Resolve 2 days ago and this is the first Premiere to Davinci change tutorial that actually helps. So in-depth, so funny. Thanks dude!
These videos have been a savior Zach! For someone who’s been using Pr for 6 years, it’s exciting to try a new software but even better when someone explains things super well. Cheers Zach! 🤙🏼
to say this video was helpful is an understatement, it made the transition to davinki that much easier, not only did i really learn a lot, but also had a good time. really enjoyable video!
What an awesome video from start to finish. I laughed, I cried. But seriously, I hit the point of no return with Premiere this week when my spec'd up M2 Pro Mac couldn't handle a 4K clip in the timeline without constant beach-balling and using 103% CPU (?!?!). Da Vinci is a breath of fresh air but learning a new tool after 10+ years of Adobe was/is terrifying. This video helped loads, so thanks
Another tip when creating another serial node is you can press alt+s to create a new node already shoe-stringed together after the selected node.
I did it Zach, I finally committed and switched to Davinci. This tutorial helped me greatly, theres not turning back now!
I know I'm waaaaaayyy late to the party, I'm just learing DaVinci and good god is this video absolutely amazing at getting set up. Thanks so much for this!
Thanks for your shortcuts, saved my job
I've been using Premier for years and hate the subscription model. This is definitely a game changer for me. Subscribed
I've been a Premiere holdout for way too long and this is the video that made me flip.
Dude you're awesome, love your vibe. And thanks for this perfect video, i'm a professional industry editor trying to understand the davinci landscape. Cheers man
this was great. I'm very used to Premiere, but now instantly feel faster in devinci than in Premiere thanks to your shortcuts.
Your humor is so underrated
Thanks so much for this, Zach! I've just decided to "leave the dark side" and make the switch to Resolve. Your video has been SUPER helpful in giving me a quick introduction to the Resolve interface. (I don't think it will be as difficult as I expected!). I know I'll be referencing this video again as I work through my first Resolve project. Thanks again! :)
Thank you so much! Great to have a tutorial where I can learn and laugh :D
Thanx a lot.. this was the best. this video is epic level good. I dont know this video saved a ton of time for me. take love from India
Best thing I ever did. I've used Premiere over 8 years but I was finally fed up with all the BS so I decided to give it a try. It asks you what program you used before so it setups timeline similar to program that you used. Give it a day or two and you will never go back, just like that first iPhone you got instead the android. You never look back!
Thankful.I am just switch the programs, but am stuck for long time.
I've started the switch to resolve, editing the first wedding job that I filmed last week. Thanks for the tips my guy!
Best of luck Dan, I think you're gonna enjoy it after you get used to the interface!
yeww! this was so good zach!!
Tab shortcut is genuis!
(also not really the same but I mapped G to "normalize audio" - kinda hits the same as audio gain in pr)
Great Video. Easy to understand, solid humour and actionable! Love you for the free keyboard bindings that are quite similar to my previous premiere ones.
Thanks so much Zach, this video was super helpful! 👊
is there a video where you cover how you made your 80's retro motion graphics intro title?? Looks amazing!
🗣️🗣️ Thank you Zach!! Im finally ready to switch, and I was SO happy to remember this video existed 👌🏾👌🏾
Loved this video. Not only informative but entertaining as well. Good job.
man i will subscribed, im starting with this video the change from premiere to davinci. When you said 300 one time, i was like "oh yeah f*ck adobe"
Super helpful thanks for this! Been sus about making the switch but this vid has given me hope!
Thanks Zach! I've been waiting for this, since you mentioned it recently, to also finally make the switch!
I wish you the best of luck on this journey. It may not always be easy, but I assure you it's worth it brother.
very helpful video, thank you zach! i love ur humour :)
i'm switching over to davinci for 2024 and this is SUCH a good video, ty!! ^^
Great tutorial, thank you! Just switched from Adobe Premiere and this helps a ton.
Haha great content! Plain simple and fun
Nice - this one is going to help out a lot of folks ready to make the switch.
You had me at gamma correction luts
Thank you I appreciate the help man
Thank you so much, Best resolve tutorial I have ever seen... 👍
Bloody epic video. Thank you!
I love that we are all feed up with adobe. lets goooo zachhh!
Dang, this video was amazing!
I personally am trying to transition to Resolve, I've used Premiere for years and me personally I haven't suffered too bad from the likes of crashing, however I want better colour grading options, I know resolve is a more modern layout and software overall, it also has better performance, just weird trying to get used to new tools, keyboard shortcuts, etd
FİRST REASON NOT PAY MONTHLY
Great video! Somehow I came away learning how to cut my cat's nostril hairs. Also, thank god you showed that export project feature. I almost uninstalled the DaVinci when I saw I couldn't save project files. I use my own cloud system and I need to be able to save project files in a specific locations, not some top secret database on my C drive. I'll give DaVinci another chance and hopefully that feature does what I need! I can't wait to drop the buggy, bloated mess that is Premiere.
This video was awesome!
Thanks for making this
Your tutorial is too good
Really good. Love your thinking and practicality. One question remains for me. Is there a possibility to see the keyboard shortcuts on the displayed keyboard without putting your cursor on it? Like in PP?
Best tutorial ever
Man i laughed my pants of when you said f u adobe with ur subscribtion lol
Thanks a lot! I struggled a lot to get used to it
Just when I wanted to switch to Resolve! I will watch this carefully :) Thanks Zach for the video
It's just for you :)
Its help me a lot👊
and also entertaining me😂
Awesome vid! Looking forward to more tutorials from you. You're a great teacher!
Amazing tutiorial thank you so much! Super helpful ❤
Glad you made the switch. Adobe has gone hungry and their like they are leechers on your money. Most of the time Adobe application keeps crashing
Thank you a lot man
Really helpfull, thanks!
Brother, thank you!
Gracias, explicas muy bien
Great video. Thanks
Incredibly helpful! Thanks!
amazing brother thank you so much for this 😍😍
Thank you!
Loved the video! Can you tell which software you used to record the screen?
Amazing vid !
how you set tab to open media pool? Can't find the exact command please help
Lovely Video but my settings are not the same when i am switching the keyboard settings from Davinci to Premiere :/
Thanks
I absolutely hate editing video. I was pretty good at it when I did it, but hated it.
This is why I stopped shooting video, so Im hoping on making the editing process simpler, faster, and more fun, so I can shoot more video content. :)
Im so glad you made the switch Zach, Davinci is ten times better then premiere.
It took me a hot minute to make the jump, but I'm feeling stoked. A big thing I miss is the transform effect in premiere. I loved making crazy zooms with motion blur.
Great Video, thank you so much helped alot!
bro i still use premiere pro 2012 with same year hardware at this point i just stop updating
I'm getting no sound in DaVinci from any of my clips :( It shows the sound bar moving when the clip it playing, and my system settings have the correct device...
This is Awesome
man, that I would also be missing that no gain function
would also be a bummer if it doesn't have apply default audio transition
I’m on the full version of davinci with a 2019 macbook pro 32gb ram and mid sup graphique card, render a video is so looooong (like 5-7 hour for 10 to 12 minute of vid). Edit in 4 k timeline 24 fps, some stab and only one or two clip with slow motion with optical flow ( maybe 10 sec for the whole video. And sometime the render crash =/
I tried on a really good (but 8 years old, gtx 980ti and 24gb ram), same problem.
I really like resolve but its kinda frustrating …
Loo the list made me to subscribe
It’s so sad how hard I laughed at the fart boom
Thank you
Can you choose the codec, the res, the bitrate the color range etc when you generate proxies? Or is it just doing it's job by default?
Hey Zach,
New to the channel but found you because I’m planning on making the jump, however, can I transfer/bring a project across from PP and continue the edit on DaVinci? Or are my PP projects lost to me unless opened on PP?
Thanks for the excellent tutorial, I’ll be checking out more in the future.
M
"poopsticks" 🤣🤣🤣
Craziest part of this video is that i found out mac users have to buy a plugin to snap windows
When I put my mouse over a video in the media section, it tends to play the video as you scrub through the thumbnail. Is there a way to disable this?
thank you
Can you give a guide on how to get davinci to walk the dog?
