I grew up in Netherburn, went to Netherburn Primary school, and spent weekends with grannie in Larkhall. This video brings back memories. Grandad used to work at the Bleachfield. In the 60's Gran used to take me for a "hot orange" when we went to get her "messages" (shopping) on a Saturday morning. So if anyone remembers Sam and Mary Armstrong from Scotia Crescent???? I now live in New Orleans, but remember Larkhall, The Braes, and the ice cream man who'd sell cigarettes to any kid who's grannie sent her out to buy them.

I grew up in Larky - enjoying the delights of Strutherhill back in the early nineties wasn't fun at all! However, visits back to see my old folks now you can see how the town has grown and improved so so much! Spent most of my young years "doon the braes" - my only claim to fame was finding a fossil site in a slate cliff over the river, that when I reported it to the museum in Hamilton became an "area of special interest".....
Not related to the video, but Larky related anyway.... Was in Florida a few years ago, in Mulligans pub in Kissimmee and got talking to a family of ex-pats now living over there originally from Millheugh, Brilliant evening.,especially when I found out that the eldest son used to serve my dad in Allans bar.... anyway, by the end of the night we were a' slethering into our pints, with the Larky patter flowing well.... This caused the Floridian barmaid to comment "Didn't know that Scotland had a different language"...... :) Aye, hen............

He comes across as lovely! As do all the people!
Here's a wee song I wrote about the place....I can't post a link here, but if you google "Old Mining Town" my friend weegingayin made a video for it!
