The reason for the heavy roll was probably due to the slow speed entering Holyhead. While the ships have stabilisers, they are ineffective at slow speed.
Great memories of childhood holidays around Valley and holyhead and llanwrog, treaudaur Bay in the 70s and 80s. Went on the hibernia in the 90s, she is being scrapped now in India (?) ( March 2022)

The Irish Sea is probably the roughest in the World. Particularly where it hits the Welsh coast. Biscay is like a millpond in comparison as the waters are deeper and you don't get the funnel between Ireland and Wales.

@@TKM11370 The North Sea off Scotland is even worse. Read up on the Artic Convoys. Deep water is never as bad as shallow water hence why the Irish Sea is so bad. You have 3000 miles of Atlantic Ocean funnelling between Wales and Ireland. The water is pretty shallow so the waves really build. Deeper water you tend to get smoother waves.

A little sporty, but ferries tend to have a very shallow draft which enables them to navigate ferry terminals and that tends to make them wallow and uncomfortable. There is nothing to be concerned about as they are very seaworthy and the crew are well used to the crossings, the only concern is avoiding the occasional puddle of sickness . 🤢
What I don't understand is how the cars and other vehicles on these ferries don't get damaged in conditions like this. I'm kind of anxious, because I'm making this crossing in a week's time...........
Those were waves in the back ground that looked like mountain! I think I would really be glad too get off of that one! Probably be saying a prayer at the same time!
