  • August 2014 marks 100 years since the start of the First World War. The war had a huge impact on those who experienced it and its legacy resides across the globe, but also closer to home in family histories & the heritage of local communities, such as Brighton & Hove. To mark the 100 year centenary Brighton joins a host of nations, communities & individuals in remembering the lives of those who lived, fought and died in the War.
Watch this video for a fascinating exploration of the city's little known historical connections to the First World War -- from the hospital for Indian war soldiers at the Royal Pavilion & Brighton Dome to the Chattri Indian War Memorial on the stunning South Downs.

Very interesting video.Millions of Indians died in both World War 1 and 2, they served King and country well.I went to the Chatri memorial ceremony once it was very poignant.India is rising again[as the guy alludes to at the end] she was hugely impoverished by the British throughout the tenure of the British Empire.
