  • Botswana is a landlocked country found right in middle of Southern African region, bordered by South Africa on the south, Namibia on the west, Zambia on the north and Zimbabwe on the east.
There are about 2.2 million people living in Botswana with its capital city is Gaborone, also its largest city with just about one eighth of its population.
Here are the 7 Facts you probably didn't know, about this country,
    Number 1
Botswana is a home of largest salt pans in the world. Makgadikgadi Pan is the world largest salt pans located in the north-east of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and south-east of the Okavango Delta. According to UNESCO website, it covers an area of over thirty thousand square kilometer, this is equal to the entire size of both Jamaica and Israel combined, and this magnificent salt pan was listed as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
    Number 2
Botswana is the largest producer of diamond in the world
Botswana is the world’s biggest producer of diamond in terms of quality, and second biggest producer of diamond in terms of volume after Russia, with estimated twenty point nine million carats in 2016. Diamonds alone contributes to 25% of the country GDP, Before its independence, Botswana was a poorest and least developed country in Africa, to understand the state of poverty the country was in, There were only total twelve kilometers of paved roads, few hospitals built by missionaries and farming was the only way of sustenance for most locals. 1 year after gaining independence, a huge diamond mine was discovered in Orapa. Today, Botswana is one of the most prosperous and steady growing countries in Africa.

The rest of Africa could be the same if they managed their countries in a similar way. For starters Botswana never chased their minorities away but instead accomodated them into their system. My chartered accountant neighbor moved there a year ago and is never coming back. No country should lose skills as is happening in South Africa.

May be its because "ours" treated us as equal human beings, never took our valuable resource land, never denied us the right to vote, never asked us to carry dom pass in our country and they didn't see us black Africans in our own country. They respected us and likewise, we are not traumatised by our past but rather we celebrate our great past and thanks to our traditional chiefs they resisted the enemies tactics with wisdom.

hie. correction: The population of Gaborone is around 250 000 not 180 000. That 180 000 is for 2001 population census then 2011 was 232 000. Then we are waiting for 2021 population census which will be carried out may be next year due to covid 19. But on that note Gaborone is surround by now big villages, Tlokweng in the east then Mogoditshane in the west. Therefore while you are in Gaborone and visit these places you will not notice whether you are still in Gaborone or out. The population of these villages are not included in Gaborone.

If you look at the post colonial world then there are only 4 countries which have been continuous democracies since 1970, India, Mauritius, Botswana and Costa Rica.
Botswana is the world's fastest growing democracy from 1970 to present and India world's second fastest growing democracy in this period.
Only those countries have grown faster than Botswana and India which implemented development oriented dictatorship and pushed one child policy.
I am sure that Botswana would also be having issues but International media doesn't attack it because they have a population of 2.6 million but India has a population of 1.4 billion no wonder it is targeted.
For example Myanmar has military dictatorship and Chin refugees fled to India but International media only reacted when Ram Mandir was built in India.
Also, Chinese Communist Party, Open Society Foundation and Muslim Brotherhood are paying US dollars and giving toolkit to International media to target India.

Stop claiming that Botswana was never colonized.
All western so-called protectorates were in reality their colonies, where the west brutally imposed their rule over these countries and exploited their resources.
Botswana was colonised by the British.
The British colonized the land of the Batswana in 1885 as a way of blocking a possible alliance between the Boers in the Transvaal and the Germans in South West Africa (Namibia). The British called the territory Bechuanaland Protectorate.

Botswana has a thriving tourism industry, and a lot of comments are made by people who see elephants and other wildlife which they don't have in their countries, these same elephants are destroying people's livelihoods because of external control of her resources, like ivory for example. While you might have had a fantastic time viewing elephants from the safety of a Landcruiser, take a moment to reflect on the difficult life of a poor villager whose crops are ravaged by elephants every season and whose goats are eaten by hyenas.

Comment, get all nations and corrupt leaders out of Africa who are exploiting it for their own agenda.
