  • In this video, Chuck gives a classic leather belt a unique twist by incorporating a mystery braid into the design! A mystery braid looks intricate, but the technique is easy to pick up and can be used in all kinds of leather projects. It's a great way to add texture and interest to a basic belt without hardware.

    Mystery braid is always exactly that, anyone not in on the mystery just wonders how. I love it. One thing that I missed when you made a bracelet with this method was to remember your marble slab has a rounded edge. I pulled mine over a sharp corner and made a right mess first time round 😉

    OLD LEATHER SMITH here. Very Nice Chuck, easy 2 understand, which is what you always do. When I make a belt 4 a client I ALWAYS use CHICAGO SCREWS never rivets, when the buckle breaks or gets bent it's easier 2 replace and not murdering your belt, they can also get quite fancy now a days. Sorry but that is what I do. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

    That's a nice looking belt. I'll have to make one for myself. As soon as I get caught up making things for everyone else.

    Chuck, this is a terrific belt design. I have a couple store bought braided belts. Now I can “try” to make my own. The word “try” being the operative word here. Best regards, Richard

    Chuck you are the best at explaining things and have a ton of enthusiasm. Keep it all going strong. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Ordering some Weaver belt blanks this weekend.

    I've seen how you have done a few videos on how to braid. Have you ever thought of making a tutorial on how to make a braided leather headband?

    Hey chuck, i found your next video idea! Can you show us how to make a belt that uses a western style buckle? I bought one without realizing it wasnt a normal buckle, and I've managed to get the gist of how it goes on from a few other videos which arent really well done, but im still not super confident in what im doing, itd be great to see the whole layout process and to learn any tips or special considerations. I assume you need a stiff veg to keep the stud hole from getting stretched out, but surely there are a lot more things to know that ill only learn as a mistake otherwise! Thanks a lot, and if anyone has any experience with this id love to hear what you have to say as well

    Just wondering.... when you made the keeper you had 1 1/2" wood, but how thick was it? 1/2"?

    Can you make the belt with a braid farther down and use the holes inside the braid to buckle in? I need a lot of different lengths to my belts depending on whether I wear it on my hips, or my waist, and I feel like the amount of holes I have to make to facilitate that would lose the braid part of the belt...

    Chuck,i noticed you didn’t bevel the edges (outer edges) and burnish. do you recommend leaving them raw?

  • @bobsalterorsouthwestsaltah4959

    Maybe a silly question but how to determine what Chicago screws you use based on thickness of the leather?? I want to make sure to get good compression but not too much ??
    Thanks !!

    Chuck sir, you dont take into account the braiding will shorten the overall length of the belt?

    • @coldwarrior3794
      @coldwarrior3794 Před 2 lety +2

      When you’re dealing with a weight to length ratio like 9oz to 40+ inches I think the difference is negligible. Especially considering he measures his belts to the center hole on the tongue so if I does lose too much all it will do is move him down one belt hole.
