- A quick tutorial for beginners on how to configure and implement VTP for the Cisco CCNA, using Packet Tracer.
In this video tutorial, I demonstrate how VTP shares VLAN information by configuring a VTP server and a VTP client, and then connecting them together with a trunk. The demonstration is easy to follow along with, in Packet Tracer.

Excellent, clear, simple explanation, no politics involved, meaning, he didn't go around the bush for hours and hours to make people confuse or crazy, like some college professor or instructors, they DO NOT give you a simple and clear answer.
Thank you very much for simplicity and clearness, Love you.
that was what i was looking for!!! spent 1 hour figuring out why my vtp updates are not showing to my client switch? (hair pulling experience)
Thanks a lot!!! simplified explain of concepts!!
I love your videos and teaching method. They have help me and incredible amount. I will keep watching, thank you!!!!!

Thank you very very much for all your amazing tutorials!
thanks David for these teachings you're the best
Hi Dan,
Amazing how many videos you uploaded!
One thing I must say about this video is though: You really should have done this with three switches to make it clear that there should be one trunk from the server to each client and not a bus network where the server switch connects to the first client switch and then the next trunk being from the first client switch to the second client switch.

YOU ARE THE BEST !!!!
Really good!!
Hi. I've cofigured first switch first and then connected to the second one. On the second one I have only changed the interface to the trunk and I got all of the vlans from Switch 1. I checked vtp status and I was on server mode. How is it possible? I am using Packet Tracer 7. So it got everything (vtp domain and vlans) from S1
Awesome video bruv
very helpful thanks
pretty awesome stuff
EXCELLENT VIDEO. THANX VERY MUCH :-)
Awesome!
@PELLISABY It's called Packet Tracer, and is free if you are part of the cisco academy. I'm sure you'll be able to find a copy if you use google :)
Very nice
Hello for me I did all this , but my clients switches weren't learning from my VTP Server. They're all on the same VTP Domain too. I tried adding a new vlan on the VTP server after the configuration and still the client doesn't pick it up from the VTP server.
#Please Answer:
The problem is that when i configured to port numbers to Vlans (vlan10,20,30 or whatever) in the server switch, this port number configurations were not configured for the client switches. Except this, everything seems ok. i could see vlan configurations in the clients, but the vlans did not have their ports which i adjusted int the server switched.
I watched all your videos, but there is not a completed project relevant with vtp-vlan
+yucel ozyazgan you have to manually assign the port on client Switch. VTP just share the information of VLAN & you have to manually assign the ports on switches whatever you want i hope this is informative for me.
still good up to today's date
thanks.. great
Thankyou Sir
Receiving a BPDU guard error:
Switch#%SPANTREE-2-RECV_PVID_ERR: Received 802.1Q BPDU on non trunk FastEthernet0/1 VLAN1.
%SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_PVID_LOCAL: Blocking FastEthernet0/1 on VLAN0001. Inconsistent port type
thank you so much
if we reload the vtp client switch it will not be able to learn vlan from vtp server as long trunk mode and vtp mode is not reconfigured. .. A m i wrong? ty. .
Erasing and reloading the switch will put your switch in the default server mode, Client VTP mode is the only mode that will enable vlan updates from a vtp server
thank you
What is the name of the program your using to create the vlan and where can I get a copy
like always , hit the like button and watch the video
where does vlan information learnt via VTP are saved?
thanks a lot

you veerry good!!
You are like me lol, I say "Right" every other sentence :)
thanks buddy
I did every step but still it show me 5 vlan on sw1 instead of 9.
Please ensure that switch1 has been changed to a client
"vtp mode client"
The change should reflect almost immediately :))
i have the same issue like you, i just type "vtp mode client" again and it works.
thanks
great
