  • Terrifying Encounter: INTRUDER at Our Front Door!
If you’ve been following us for a while you’ll know we stay in Airbnb’s a lot. Airbnb is our main choice of accommodation so we have a fair bit of experience researching, booking and staying in various Airbnbs all over the world. We have enjoyed all the Airbnbs we have rented until now. This experience was the first time we have ever had to leave an accommodation mid way through our booking. Looking back it’s hard to believe we stayed here for even two nights because we knew things felt ‘off’ soon after we arrived and there were many misleading things about the apartment that we found out only once we walked inside. Certain important things were carefully omitted from the photos on the listing for example the fact that the apartment is below street level so we’re basically staying in a basement surrounded by noisy teenagers playing basketball above our heads as well as other crazy noises.
None of the weird extra doors with locks that led into other rooms were shown on the Airbnb listing, we would not have booked to stay here knowing there were locked off areas to rooms where people had access and could then potentially get into our apartment without us knowing.
The bottom line is the listing was misleading (I guess because the host wants people to book) the trouble with misleading listings is that as soon as the guests arrive they see the truth, which is what happened here. We arrived late at night on the first night and were so tired and un well still so we had no choice but to stay the first night and by the second day we were both still ill and decided to just put up with the noises and freaky layout with hidden rooms attached because we only had six nights booked anyway.
During our second night there everything changed and we decided it was time to go, it was so scary hearing multiple people banging down our front door late at night while we were inside looking up at the front door as it shook.
Safe to say our arrival into Sucre in Bolivia wasn’t the smoothest but we were determined to turn things around and enjoy our time here so we checked into a new place right in town, far away from our original accommodation. Despite the owner of the Airbnb being less than friendly/helpful, Airbnb themselves were very understanding and supportive and told us to leave the accommodation immediately and refunded the rest of the stay.

A British couple from just outside London, England. We got married in 2018 and decided instead of a honeymoon we’d travel the world together. We saved money and travel points, quit our jobs, rented our house out and boarded a one way flight in 2020. We started this CZcams channel to share our experiences with friends, family and anyone who plans to travel to the places we’re visiting. We leave TKT tips/facts in our vlogs and blogs to give information that we wish we’d had before visiting. We hope you find our content fun & useful :)

We wanted to let everyone know that although this particular host was pretty unhelpful, Airbnb as a company were actually really good. They told us to leave the property immediately and gave us a full refund and a voucher to help towards finding emergency accommodation.
We stay in many Airbnb’s and this is the first really bad experience we have had and the company handled it swiftly and professionally.
As always thanks for watching and please give the video a thumbs up even though this one might seem a strange one to like, it all really helps our channel. See you on the next one for more adventures!
    Best wishes, TKT xx

What a scary situation 😖 and even worse because you guys weren’t feeling well 😢 so glad that Airbnb was helpful though! Getting out of there was definitely the best decision!

I agree whith you, if you don’t feel good in a place, you have to listen to your intuition…safety first 💪🏻

Absolutely, we wished we had just left after the first night but we sort of accepted the noises and weirdness up until the craziness of the second night and then our intuition was telling us to leave asap!

OMG that sounds a nightmare at any time let alone when you’re somewhere strange & not feeling good! Pleased you managed to find somewhere else! Good to hear Air B & B refunded you.
Well done carrying on your travels after that & sharing your experience with others!

It was definitely not an ideal situation to arrive to especially as we really just needed a few days rest. Airbnb were great at responding and encouraged us to leave which was reassuring.

this is what people dont get about Bolivia is not very tourist friendly in the way that there isn't much accommodation around for tourists. everything he said is pretty normal other than the door knocking and possible window open. out side of the bigger cities i would just try staying in hotels or hostals... a bit of an over reaction on their end but i get it that its scary for them. no one is going to do anything to them Bolivia is very safe out side of casual pick pocket and some political protesting every now and then that usually doesn't affect tourists.

In most cities in Bolivia we did stay in hostels/hotels but also like to try something different in each country, usually it works out well but we were just unlucky with this one. We stayed 2 nights because we didn’t want to ‘overreact’ but strangers banging the door down in the night with people running up and down the public stairs above us was not only scary but too loud to actually sleep through it. We took Airbnb’s advice.
