- Bonnie Kourvelas sits down with the legendary game show host and radio personality to discuss his illustrious career in radio and television in a new WKNO special. From his modest beginnings at WPLI radio station in Jackson TN and his early TV career in Memphis, Martindale kept moving forward and never looked back. In over fifty years, Martindale served as host of nineteen different TV shows, including the popular game show "Tic Tac Dough." As the host of "Top Ten Dance Party" in Memphis, Martindale interviewed Elvis Presley in one of Presley's first TV appearances.

I was/am a huge fan of his, esp. "Debt", one of my favorite shows. Today is his 85th Birthday! :)
And he still has that golden voice!

He and Elvis were friends from the first time Elvis song played on the radio station that Dewey Phillips worked until Elvis died. He and Jerry Shilling really look great for their age as well as being fully alert and articulate as when they were younger! They and Billy Smith are some of the last living male friends of Elvis. All in their 80s. Amazing!
I've seen this a couple of times and still get tickled how young Elvis was chewing his gum up a storm 😂😂😂 So different in the later years where he was well spoken and gave thoughtful answers.

He hosted a dance party show... never knew that. Could you imagine him as the "American Bandstand" host instead of fellow game-show man Dick Clark?
