Just wanted to say a quick thank you to Mike. I have a 280 SL and like Mike I’m based in Bristol. My SL randomly wouldn’t fire up and I called Mike to see if he could help. He pretty much dropped what he was doing and popped over on a Sunday with his bag of tricks. 30 minutes later we discovered the starter motor wires were playing up. Problem identified and fixed. Massive thanks to Mike. A very genuine and lovely guy.

I love the Pagoda Mike! It’s one of Mb’s most beautiful. I love the headlights and the dash. It’s a work of art. The information you provide is priceless Mike.

Tony - you always have the most positive things to say. We are enjoying a mini heat wave here in England and it is bliss.I hope your rebuild is all going to plan. Mike

Thanks - its always nice to solve problems on these old cars...especially if the problem is stopping the car starting on that one sunny day we get each year in England. Mike

I dont know if the 1sec relais is standard, but many stroke-six of this era have issues with warm start (my M130 too) and this relais was Mercedes' answer to fix it.

@@MikesMercsandothercars ha ha, unfortunately not. We have several others including 500E, E55, E63, nothing as rare or valuable as an older SL

There is still time....Ionce turned dowen the opportunity to buy a fully restored 300SL roadster for £118,000. It seemed like way too much money at the time - I settled for the Pagoda at £14,000. Mike@@tonychavez2083

Hi Mike.Great video. I have just completed a DIY engine rebuild, which appears to have gone well, the problem is the car is starting and running so rich the plugs foul then she miss fires. Is the CSV likely to get stuck open, or is this more likey to be the pump enrichment device? my car is a 67 250sl u.s

Congrats on your DIY engine rebuild. A couple of questions:
      1. Did you see the video below?
      czcams.com/video/lVarDMcjc2I/video.html
      2. Did you put the original fuel pump back on?
      3. I'm assuming you have the correct spark plugs?
Have you checked that the cold start injector is NOT spraying fuel when engine is warm?
      Mike

H Mike. Thanks for your response and suggestions. The car ran well befor ethe re build, but engine was in a workshop for a year with the pump attached. I have just watched the video you suggested, and this makes a lot of sense, if my thermostate is stuck. How is the best way to check the csv?@@MikesMercsandothercars

@@humairmalik1071 The cold start valve (CSV) is also known as the cold start injector or cold start solenoid.
If the cold start injector is continuing to spray fuel when engine is warm that COULD lead to the problem you are describing. Take a look at the video below:
      czcams.com/video/TyE_tOV-ETQ/video.html
and also time code 1.09 in vid below:
      czcams.com/video/R3F7qIHRRp4/video.html
There are 2 things to test on your Pagoda:
      1. Is the cold start injector still receiving power when engine is warm? You could test this by hooking up a voltmeter or better still a 12v light bulb and driving the car. the bulb should go out after engine warms up. Location of CSV on Pagoda is shown in the original video you watched.
      2. Is the cold start injector dripping or spraying fuel even when it receives no power? You will have to take the injector off the car to test this....perhaps using the simple method outlined in the first video above.
On a different subject...when I first reassembled my warm up regulator (the thing with the thermostat), the car ran WAY too rich - back firing, kicking out black smoke...world coming to an end scenario. Adjusting the height of the rod in the warm up device so that it pushed the lever more sorted the issue. Mike

@@MikesMercsandothercars Hi Mike. Ii have gone through all your videos and they have been a great help. I went through all the fuelling as per your video, finding the whole CSV and warm up thermostat really helpful and eye opening. I managed to cure my missfire today after months of scratching my head and goign through all aspects of the engine. Long story short, the pump adjustment which alters the rihness between idle and 1800 rpm was too weak and this was causing missfires and backfires.
