BizMatik, this was Robin's signature song that he received standing ovations for each and every time he performed it live. He loved it so much that he requested that it be played at his funeral in 2012. This beautiful man sang with his heart and you'll find that with every lead he ever did. From his earlier leads with his brothers from the late 60's to the early 70's and all of his solo endeavors from 1969, 1983, 1984, 1985 and those in the 2,000's as well as many more post disco leads with his brothers, you'll get the same vibe you did listening to this amazing song. I hope you react to many more of his leads. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. Continue to RIP sweet, sweet angel. 🙏😇🙏

Thank you for sharing that. Although I have loved BeeGees since I was a teeney bopper in the 60's, I don't really know too much about their lives. I love hearing the stories of the groups and songs.

Your welcome, Cindy. I've been with these amazing guys since they first came on the scene in 1967. From day one my heart belonged to precious Robin. I miss him so and Mo and Andy, too. 😥

I know the Bee Gees are mostly remembered for their disco era during the 70s, BUT to me I prefer their hits from the 60s. I Started A Joke, To Love Somebody, Words, Massachusetts, Lonely Days, the list goes on.

What made the Bee Gees a great musical act was that the brothers had beautiful voices. Each excelled at a different style. There was a great advantage in that-- variety-- three great performers in one band. All were loveable and gifted musicians, songwriters to throw into the mix. Voila!! A legendary, beloved band! Aren't we fans the lucky, blessed ones?

Everyone should check out Robin's music video of "Ellan Vallin," done on the Isle of Man where Robin Gibb, his twin brother Maurice, and older brother Barry, were born. He sings with backing from the pure voices of young people from a college choir, starting in a cathedral setting, then moving out to stunning vistas of the wild coastline of the island. It's an amazing anthem that is stirring and, as always, Robin reaches the deep places of the heart. Though in his last days on earth, Robin was still Robin... with all the grace of his musical soul displayed and a performance given with all the ethereal and timeless beauty of his unmistakeable voice. Rest in Peace, Robin. Thank you for what you gave to the world.

It's such a spiritual song open to interpretation. Robin had soul. That was a great connection you made to the modern times we live in. Spot on. Other great Robin songs are Saved by the Bell, I can't see nobody and later ones like Bodyguard, Kiss of Life and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Been watching you for awhile now and your appreciation of music keeps growing. Well done. Especially these days. To be open to lots of different genres is brilliant.

Robin's voice is amazing. His best songs imo are "And the Sun Will Shine" about an unattainable love interest a young boy idolizes, as well as "I can't See Nobody" , both sung live in Melbourne 1974 for best video. Please react to Nights on Broadway - Midnight Special video, Alone, Run to Me, And the Sun Will Shine, I Can't See Nobody, Morning of My Life, Tragedy, Love You Inside Out, Spirits Having Flown...... please choose the official videos. There are live performances in 1997 & 2001 where they sing songs 30 years after they first released the song. They often shorten the song because it wasn't their latest hits. So the younger performances are often best for the older songs. Fun reaction. The meaning of I Started a Joke is different for everybody i think. Merry Christmas BizMatik!

The cover of the "Idea" LP is a composite of the brothers' faces. Robin is credited as the writer of this song. He admitted he was a loner and felt often misunderstood. When he cried, others laughed. When he laughed, others cried. I take the song, as do many, about how we fit in with the world and how others perceive us. The original video was filmed with fun house mirrors and distorted human cutouts...do people see the real person or distortions of them. Robin was called the best white soul voice of his generation. He was 17 when he sang this. The songs "For whom the bell tolls" and "Bodyguard" are excellent examples. Your comments about social media are bang on. "Stayin' Alive was a decade after this song.

He never truly answered when asked the question. What’s the meaning of the lyrics?? I feel Robin had some depression issues. When he was only 17 he was involved in the horrific train wreck. A lot of people died. It kinda messed him up a bit. He’s a very deep private soul who wrestled with some demons. He I felt was the best singer amongst the brothers Gibb. However he was a lot of the time overlooked because of big brother Barry’s amazing good looks. He never said it out loud but I think it always bothered him.
You can see in his face. He’s soooo emotional and feels life deeply. Watch their old videos and you can see what I mean. He sings from deep within. Unlike any performer I’m ever seen.
    Rest in peace. 😢
