I had to evacuate and drove for 3 hrs to Naples, Fl then had to turn around and go back because the Hurricane changed directions. We came back home and now watching this video, listening to rain and wind. Stay safe everyone 😘

I recognize the handwriting on that old ledger. It’s “Catholic School Cursive.” BTW, it’s just like mine: and yes, I’m from those ancient times of fountain pens and swirly writing (and nuns)! 😉😂 I was a bookkeeper/secretary, and we kept books just like these ledgers back then: they were HUGE!

The Bic Crystal pen is still the fav of my mother and myself. Only thing we use!!! Little tip when stamping, do the last number or letter first and work back. That way you don't run out of room. I learned that the hard way way back in school when working on posters! Lol! That was a loooong time ago now!

I was JUST thinking about this last night - making ledge paper. I want to make a junk journal for my niece who graduating with a degree in accounting and is studying for her CPA. Wouldn't that be cute - putting old fashioned accounting ledger paper in her journal? Hope you and your whole family - all 2-legged and 4-legged members - stay safe until the storm passes. (Well, and after that - but definitely during the storm!). Thank you for all craftiness, silliness and real-ness that you share with the community! 😍
I found when I stamp numbers I start with the last, place it where you want to end and work to the left. Perfect placement everytime
Hi Pam, Dropsey- swelling of tissue due to accumulation of excess water ( edema). Consumption- serious infections bacterial disease that affects the lungs. Scrofula- cervical tuberculosis lymphadenitis ( inflammation of the lymph nodes in the neck). Slow Fever- typhoid a disease that gets worse over time( sneaks up on you). Enjoyed watching you do this project, thank goodness we live in an age where there are cures for these diseases and many more. 👍🌹🌺🦋I really hope Sunny’s tummy settles down, please give him a hug from me. 👍❤️

Dropsy=edema, Scrofula=severe TB, Consumption =another form of TB. Great idea, stay safe!
Drops is "dropped" feet, meaning dragging feet that you can't stand on your heel and raise the front. I was diagnosed with it after a fall & ankle break, it sounded Victorian! But I just needed to stretch.
I am in the UK and just retired from 40 years in NHS hospital pharmacy. In case anyone else is interested: Scrofula is an infection of TB (tuberculosis) in the lymph nodes - which often caused nasty abcesses, Dropsy was the old term for heart failure, consumption was TB, Congestion was likely pneumonia and 'indigestion' was probably gastric ulcers or tumours. Years ago flu was listed as the 'Ague' too.
The death certificate for our late beloved Queen was released today and she also is noted as dying of 'old age' as did her husband Prince Philip.
Old documents are not just pleasing to the eye but informative too! Imagine the time before carbon paper and photocopiers when everything was copied by hand. Your faux paper is very good! Thanks for the demonstration.

I have digital copies of letters written by my great grandparents , searching for their lost son in France WW1. Now I’m thinking maybe I’ll try printing them on coffee dyed paper. You were right the first time Pam. Although it’s a French word, Iroquois is pronounced Ear-A-Koy in the United States, at least up here in the Finger Lakes region of New York where the Iroquois speaking nations originated. I’m sure you were dying to know that…😁
I'm sure I heard it pronounced "he rack he", in some Western movies...years ago. Did movie producers just not do research/know how to say it?

@@poppletop8331 movies generally reflect current culture. It would likely depend on when / where it was made. Any existing prejudices often translated into the movie or film.

Fabulous!! Per your request, Scrofula- TB of the neck. Consumption- TB. Dropsy- Edema or swelling. That would be heinous! I can even imagine dying of swelling. We don’t think about how lucky we are to avoid these maladies. 😢

The edema is an indication of heart being affected, and the pathways of circulation.

PhD in 19th c. Am. Hist. here.....I'm sure others have answered but yes, consumption is tuberculosis. Dropsy is edema/heart failure. Scrofula is a consumption related illness, rashes etc. It would be fun to take that list and hand write it into a fake ledger paper. Thanks for showing it to us. You are THE BEST.

Hurricanes are the scariest thing that you can see coming at you for days and days. I remember Gilbert approaching S. Texas many years ago, and me careening through a KMart in a panic looking for plastic tubs to save my photo albums.

We don't have a garbage man here in our new town in the desert! We 'get to' carry our garbage in the car to the Refuse Transfer Center. Then it is carried to the landfill far away. Haha! Pioneer living! 🤪
By the way, Scrofula is a fom of Tuberculosis and Dropsy is severe edema so the patient drowns. Ugh! . Have a safe and healthy week. 🥰

My great grandfather's death certificate stated cause of death as "kicked in gut by mule - suffered 3 days". He ran a poor house during the depression and died at 79. Can't imagine how much he suffered from horrible internal injuries.
When I was in 4th grade, my teacher taught us all how to write in "proper" cursive. She made us keep practice writing journals for the whole year and she checked it every day. It was half of our final grade that year. The writing included many different ways to write f, r, s and t according to where it fell in a word. I have never come across anyone else who wrote that way and even though I don't write that way every day, I have never forgotten the script or rules. Never thought then that I would find a use for that skill in my future but here we are!
Now, if I could just find a daily use for those pesky calculus equations!

Hope the storm has passed over you and all family safe. Great video I really enjoyed it. I believe the red c are a cross check reference to invoices or when items are audited a different coloured pen is used. So kind to acknowledge a fellow crafter.
If the ink smudges when lining with a ruler, put tape on the bottom of the ruler to raise it up just a hair. Learned that in art school thank goodness!

The funeral home ledger is from a funeral home in my hometown - Conway, Arkansas; Faulkner County. I’ve printed several pages of the ledger while working on my genealogy research.
So creative of you. When I was a kid, we used to use milk and heat to darken paper. Also to write secret messages.😊
You are right about the consumption. Dropsy was an accumulation of fluid - edema, or congestive heart failure.
