  • My brother asked me to combine a couple of things to convert a kids game into a loud drinking game.

    This isn't the only way to do it.
    It's probably not the best way to do it.
    But it's how I did it.

    That’s bloody brilliant. Thanks, my brother !
    For the record (and those who might be interested) this thing is going to be plugged into a giant PA party speaker so that if you do biff it and touch the sidewall, it should make you skid your Fruit-Of-The Looms 😂

    Should've installed a high voltage shocker that goes off at random.

    They totally replaced the original incandescent bulb with an LED. And yes, we used to practice malpractice lawsuits with this game back in the 1970s 😂

    I think the reason your infrared sensor didn't work is because the remote probably uses a 48k carrier signal. You need a remote control infrared sensor (those integrated ones with 3 legs and look like a transistor) that decodes the signal from the carrier sensor.

      yea it doesn't have a built-in demodulator, ReceiveDemo would have printed the raw codes if it didn't recognize a *demodulated* signal

    Now, you need an external reset button for the light.

    Just wanted to say your channel is one of my favourites hands down. It started with your train layout ( I have a model train empire in Nscale ,DCC of course) then I found all your channel content and was hooked. I love all things Tech and general messin around with stuff. Keep up with the great content ,love it !! PT from Windsor Park (not too far from you) You made Winnipeg proud ,as well as micro brews.

    Haha that brings back a lot of memories when I was a kid I had one of the older ones obviously cuz I was a kid then :-) and I kind of did the same thing but yet I just rigged it up to a small horn cuz I don't remember it vibrating. :-) Kind of the same principal except it was much easier just hooking two wires to the output that went to the nose! :-) of course it was a long time ago so it was the older model.

    Nice. A couple of things I would have checked, (maybe you did, but did'nt mention them).
    I would have tried a TV remote to turn on the alert and an IR LED by itself. Also I'd have hooked the IR LED in the sender to a scope to see what sort of pattern it sent out. If it's just pulses, a 555 could be used. Just thoughts.

      I did take a look on the scope, it was a signal modulated onto a high KHZ square wave, but my ancient analog scope couldn't lock onto any discernible pattern in the modulated signal.
      There was nothing interesting enough to show on video - just blur.

      @@pileofstuff That's fair enough. I love my old analog scope, but for ease of use you can't beat the modern digital ones. I've got a cheap Chinesium one.

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff  Před 3 měsíci +4

      Each team's home arena has a different sounding horn or siren played when a goal is scored. The symbols are the teams' logos. This thing can select any team's sound

    Im guessing you tried the scope. A brief clip allowing us to pause and look at the pattern could be a good compromise for those who want to see vs those who don't.

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I did, but it wouldn't sync to the signal. I spent a long time trying (and failing) to get an image that could be interpreted.
      That's a limitation of an old analog scope when trying to figure out digital signals.
      .
      If any manufacturers of modern digital scopes happen to be watching, I'm open to sponsorships...
