I love that the lacrosse space is producing entertaining content but here are my thoughts...
2 pick plays, 2 skipped feeds through the defense when he wasn't in a dangerous area (not Piseno's fault), 1 play was defensive confusion (although probably not best decision in that moment but I don't know the game plan- probably to get into zone), 1 play was a zone where it wasn't directly his fault to get back cut, 1 play highlighted was an assist on man up that didn't involve both players.
I understand Brandau had a couple highlight plays with the pick but some of that can be attributed to the short stick communication and/or decision making plus good play by the offensive player to put the pick in a difficult spot. Shouldn't the defender be equally credited with snubbing a dodge or causing a turnover?
In no way is this Piseno glazing but I feel like very few people understand lacrosse at a level high enough to understand why Piseno did a solid job and if anything drove Brandau into good slide positions both times even if his job was made more difficult with the pick he was trying to get over (1) and that he had to get under in a really awkward spot (2). Sam Handley could have tried the same angle shot against Gavin Adler in 2023 but he instead threw it forward. Brandau snuck this one in with no angle, which was an awesome play, but if he threw it forward or the shot got saved/ he missed the story line would probably be different in this one...
Are all sports like this? Or is this just a lacrosse thing. Lol.
