Zebra ZD420 Wireless Thermal Printing Setup and Installation | Windows Mac Android Chromebook

- In this video we go over wifi setup and driver installation setups for the Zebra ZDS420 thermal label printer. It is a thermal printer (they dont use ink) that will print shipping labels for ebay, etsy, poshmark, shopify, pirateship etc. Any platform that formats 4x6 shipping labels. Index timestamps are at the bottom of the description. We use Zebra setup utilities for android and we use zebra setup utilities for windows (link below)
You must setup the printer on your wifi network if you want it to be wireless, you will need a windows computer or an android device for this.
The same process will work with multiple printers in the ZD series

Fantastic Video! You saved me from sending back my new ZD420 wireless printer. With the instructions that came with the product , it was confusing and not helpful at all. After reading pages and pages of their pdf instructions , I was still no better off. I am not new to computing , the way they put things together was just not helpful at all. Very good instructions video! When I tried to use it for Windows, I did not manage to change the printer port after wifi was configured. Windows could not connect to the printer. However, I added a new printer (skipped the one setup for USB) and connected via IP and then it worked.

Thank you for making this video, I can’t tell you how many times it’s helped me out. These things are def not plug and play. For some reason mine defaults to back feed on. It’s printing across two labels. I can navigate my way to turn it off on my Windows based computer but can’t figure out how to get to that setting on a newly acquired Mac. I even checked the CUPS settings. Do you have any advice? Also wondering if you have a patreon page.

any idea if a BT dongle can be added to it aside from the OEM BT radio card/module? I've been trying to get one to accept BT file requests as the app I'm using is proprietary and BT coded only...

Hi Eric, thanks so much for the video this really helped me set up with mac os. It works fine but when we finish for the day we shut everything down, then the next day printer is not working and i have to re configure. in printer settings it shows as "in use' so deleted any print jobs pending and still dosnt work If you could help suggest what I can do it would be appreciated.

@@thecollegepicker just got this printer from Ebay and while following your setup I've gotten blinking warning lights for the data (blinking green) and the media roll (blinking red). Obviously, I have paper loaded. Any thoughts? I am looking around online and I see something about a ribbon cartridge. What's that all about in a thermal printer? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you dont mind me asking.. my paper size doesnt show the same options as your... it defaulted to oe w588h360 & my labels are not printing correctly to the size of my labels which are 102mm x 150mm & there is no 102mm x 150mm or 400 x 600' in my list of paper size options..

Hi so I just got one of these is there a wifi module that it needs to print via nfc/wifi I can pair via Bluetooth but I get a communication error every time
I want to use the zd621 in a mobile setup, how would i make this printer available to multiple ipads? the idea is for our team to register incoming guests rapidly with an iPad then print a label with the guest's name, is this possible?
23:02 maybe its fuzzy because in the print dialogue its scaled fit to printable area or its a pixel image in the pdf not vectors?
HELP! I got this Thermal printer from Alibaba, you might the seen it on CZcams. It prints out dark but not clear. I tried lowering the darkness, speed, and tried cleaning it but it still comes out spotty.

I have 1 question would the printer still work on mac with my current saved barcodes on the zebra design 3 software? Will this printer connect to the network if the router uses WPA2 password technology? The options in the app only say WPA PSK. Is this the same as I have not been successful in connecting the printer to the network and I have been very careful to make sure the SSID and password is entered correctly. Help please..?

Wont work if the GK420D doesnt have a Ethernet port on the back.

Hello. I have a problem whereby my calibation label image is incorrectly aligned so I can't read the IP on the calibration report, thus I can't connect it to the Wifi. How can I adjust the printers default settings so it recognises the media size? I am using 4 x 6" labels
Hello! I've run into an issue with adding the new port as in 18:55.
My IP adress has a section with three 000. For example: 192.168.000.011
I try without the zeroes but it doesnt work, it says it cant find the device at all on the network. The same message when i enter the complete IP adress. Any suggestions? Thank you

I'm wirelessly connected on my samsung s20 but the print service plugin won't actually show up when i go to print. Is there an app that will let me print through the zebra?

Eric, my ZD420 won't connect to the wifi with my Windows, the WIFI light never on, is that normal? Another thing is the Dithering setup, I changed to none, but still has the poor quality of the bar code. Thank you so much if you can help me find out what's going on. Many Thanks!

The zd420 is a pain to setup, if you make any mistakes on the ssid/password it will not work. Have you had any progress on it?
I may be being thick and apologies if I am but imagine I know very little about computers/printers. I hae and Asus Google Chromebook with a standard USB port - will this label printer work on my computer? I see the Dymo doesn't and I'm unsure as to whether this will or not.

Hi I don't have the Graphics tab in the preferences on windows, instead I have dithering tab, but setting it to none still leaves me with a bit glitchy quality, it's not as bad as your before but also not as good as your after.
Or it's because I print from .png?
Though that .png seems to be good quality and resolution and if no processing is applied it should print sharp.
Also to rule out hardware issues, anything else like setup label or windows test labels print sharp.
Any photo format isnt good for barcodes or so. Try to change it to .PDF

@@shittychannel4860 windows, the preferences settings don't look same at all and there's like 2x more tabs in it.
@@Arek_R. What driver did you choose? The Zebra driver or the Seagull driver? Are you using the ZD420? When you print a label, do you open it in a PDF reader (ex Adobe acrobat reader DC), that sometimes helps
I'm Android developer Our Organization was printing on zebra GK420 but they have decided to change the printer model ZD420 so I'm getting the problem that zpl data does not transfer via usb cable.

Unfortunately no ,😭 it isn't an airprint compatible printer.

How far did you get with iOS? I've been able to get the printer on the Wifi and the network light turns green but then won't print, says the printer is busy. Created the printer on the CUPS server site.
ios wont work with this printer unless its hooked up to some sort of print server that supports ios.
@@thecollegepicker got it working using another app, for those struggling with iOS:
1) Download Printer Setup app from Zebra, use to enter your Wifi settings in Connectivity and get the printer on wifi (bluetooth is slow, can't upload large files) be sure to give a hostname for the printer(leaving it at the default # did not allow me to see it in OS X).
2) Download latest firmware and LinkOS files from Zebra's support/downloads for ZD420
3) I loaded the LinkOS update first and reset printer. Then loaded the firmware and the printer began the firmware update on its own and will restart on its own.
4) You should be able to see the updated firmware # using info button in the app, upper right corner.
5) Follow OS X wireless instructions in this video to add the printer, share the printer on your network.
6) I used Printer Pro app ($6) to discover the Zebra printer and print from my iPhone. Seem like iOS should still recognize this printer via the sharing feature, this was on Catalina, so maybe it has been fixed in BigSur.
*whenever I try to change "Type of transfer" option from thermal transfer to direct thermal it breaks the printer and it stops responding until you set the option back to thermal transfer.
Next I'll try printing directly from eBay.
The year is 2020 and we still have to deal with printer drivers.

Thermal printers do not use ink. It can print over a million labels.

Is it possible to print over BT with an Android phone?
I tried numerous apps, but non of them are able to print a label over BT.
They all won't connect to or detect the printer.
It's connected to a network via a cable, and I have the IP adress.
I am not able to install drivers though since I don't have admin access on that computer. However, we use a third party programm to create steering samples and that prints labels with the sample info on it, so I'm not sure how they do that.
When I try to add the printer via the config screen I can't find it either, that's why I tried to print via my phone so I also can print custom labels, but so far without succes.

I’ve been wanting to get a label printer for my small business for the longest time and finally pulled the trigger. I’m glad I did ! This machine is great czcams.com/users/postUgkxw55tQTywUAAOsbrlwxONZULry77sFF1Q and the blue/green color matches the rest of the accents in my office. My favorite part is how small the footprint is. It’s less than 1/4 the size of my regular printer.Set up was fairly easy. Seller will email you a link with video instructions Which I found to be more helpful than the written instructions. I use a Mac and had no issues. They even included an adaptor for USB to USB-c which is great because I’m always losing mine! I had a few issues getting the labels to print properly and wasted quite a few sheets. You need to play around with the settings to get everything adjusted just right. If you have the wrong settings, it’ll crop off the edges or feed through blank labels. These aren’t issues with the machine though, just user error.

I am trying to install the printer on my Mac with little success. For me the printer does not show up when I click the + in "Printers & Scanners". I have tried powering the printer on/off, unplugged the USB etc but it stil doesn't show. Anyone else had this issue or have any idea why that is?

How to switch from direct mode and transfer mode?
In the driver.
I ditched the "print preview" for Chrome/MBP via terminal. You can't trust the print preview and it just slows things down anyway. It's amazing how many hoops you have to jump through just to use an f'ing Zebra. But once you get it right it's awesome. Time to recycle a bunch of misprinted paper...
This one is a nightmare to setup 😬💀 I remember the pain and suffering trying to figure it out without a tutorial 😭

Printing with this app on android does not work. App and printer freezes. No response from customer service. Apps are not updated like the older ones. Adding the printer without the app on android does not work. So pc is the only option. If I knew about all this hazzle I would have bought a Brother printer or some other brand.
Attention! This is not a good option for Mac OSX. You can't have a good quality printer.
