While i don’t disagree with anything you’ve said, i think in front of everything you’ve said is NERF BARS, followed by intake, exhaust, and jetting, and tires, because the stock rears are hilarious. I purchased an 03 400ex new in 02, and the brakes or shocks have never been an issue. I freeride and track ride regularly. The brake mod you did sounds like an awesome idea, dont think ill do it, but its badass im sure. This is the first ive heard of what youve done. 👍🏻

@@clayrichards4986 or if you are keen on welding any old blown polaris 4X4 or other cvt 4X4 quad then drop a engine from a wrecked street bike in .. and a little modding for drive fitment and you are in there .. the Old polaris 4x4 are 520 size chain driven 4x4 so are a easier conversion .. .. ( look on YT for " 600cc jesus walk " also Kawasaki made a 30cc 4x4 with a manual clutch shift ?? the canam outlanders are fast like a sport quad ..

Great video. First thing I did on my 400 EX was buy 450 R shocks and grind to fit.. They are a bit stiff but I have all the adjustments at the lowest settings and it's night and day over stock. I'm 200 pounds so it works out OK for me. The brakes on mine are OK for me but I can see how much rear ground clearance you've gained with the smaller rotor. Good stuff.

For easy addon front shocks that don't require revalving. Use either kawasaki kfx400 fronts or suzuki ltz fronts either being resivor shocks like the trx 450r ones. But are much softer and better for riders under 200 lbs with no need to revalve. .. the dual piston front yfz450r calipers are awesome. To further improve break response. Use braided brake lines. For longer lasting stock breaks use centered metal pads. They out last the other flavors. With a slight loss of stopping grip.

Reading these comments, I have to add one my VERY BEST mod I did to my 2000 400EX. A +2" rise steering stem replacement. At 1st ,I ordered a 1", put it on and didn't like it. Sent it back and got the 2" which is the way to go for me. And understand I am 5'9 with arms from top of shoulder to end of finger at 30" 's. The tallier one was the way to go for me. The bike is much easier to turn and hang onto in the rough, and does not wear me down as quick. Just saying.

the front 400 ex shock s are pogo sticks lol same as the utility quad shocks with a tiny preload adjustment .. earlier Yfz 450 front shocks fit wit the same way as the trx 450r with no need to revalve them .. they get taller in the later years (i think around 2012 or 2014 and are too tall .. kawasaki 400 and 450 front shocks bolt on with out the grinding or re valving .. but the rear 400ex shock is identical to the 450r rear shock other then about 3/4 or1" shorter .. and the kawasaki ,suzuki and yamaha front brakes are a direct bolt on and all the same brand brake manufacture .. Braided brake lines make them even more responsive .. currently i have houser +2 arms and +2 stem .. with 18."tall fox podiums from some donor polaris quads .. and a shock mount bracket i made .. a decent set of pegged Nerf bars 9 the dual caliper front brakes n braided lines and a YZF 250 FCR carb n Duncann full exhaust ..
