I was a bridge sergeant in an army engineer battalion in 1970. (korea and later West Germany.) I was a crew chief of an Amphibious River Vessle. Not too dissimilar from what you see in the video.

    • @darthgzuz

These are only used during war if main bridges are compromised or damaged or when have entered deep into enemy territory. So rush hour, what rush hour? Main force has already gone ahead deep into enemy territory

If only all this engineering knowledge and advancements were focused to improve people's lives instead of destroying them, we would have a different scenario worldwide. No hunger, less wars and outstanding quality of life for more.
It would also be cheaper to accomplish than what it now costs to sustain so much conflicts worldwide.

This technology has been around since ww2

  • @RonLWilson
    @RonLWilson Před 5 měsíci +2

That bridge can be a high value target that could be knocked out with artillery and such. So in addition it might be good to be able to quickly build a small light weight bridge that is harder to hit and easier to repair.
For example one could build a floating light weight narrow gauge bridge say using PVC pipe and use e-bike technology to ferry men and supplies over a river (one might Goggle e-bikes on rails).
If a section is knocked out out it could be repaired with a hack saw, some glue and some more PVC pipe.
Also, one could have a machine that runs on the rails that can help do that.
A cargo e-bike can carry 500lbs of cargo at 20-30 mph. So even if that light rail bridge is knocked out half the time, the other half of the time one could carry thousands of tons of material across it.
And if the enemy is having to continuously take out these bridges as sections are knocked out and the rapidly repaired, trading valuable artillery rounds for PVC pipe and glue is not a bad trade!
So while being able to having a $13 Million dollar bridge in minutes while both valuable and necessary may not be sufficient in that at times one might need a little brother bridge that only cost a fraction of that cost and can be easily repaired, even if it can only be used to carry light freight.
Yes, one can do that with helicopters, that is if one has air superiority, but that might not always be the case. Also, one might put those helicopters to better use by using them to help lay the bridge sections and then free them up for other more urgent and critical uses.

Won’t make a difference how well infrastructured we are if we can’t defend it against people who want to take it from us. Yes, infrastructure is important as shown by our interstate system created in the early days of the Cold War, but we are more or less ok in infrastructure department at the moment. What we aren’t ok in is the amount of people, cultures and countries that we’ve pissed off the last seventy years to build what we have today and want payback, plus the little dictators who want a piece of the pie. (DPRK, I’m looking at you.)
