  • Climate Change is a major threat to Agriculture yet more than 80 percent of Uganda’s population is entirely dependent on it for survival. The increase in average temperatures over many parts of the country has led to a drastic decrease in productivity. This has serious consequences in terms of food security and health especially to the vulnerable groups such as women and children. This has resulted in severe malnutrition and increase in child mortality rates especially in the eastern part of Uganda where the Schools Tree Project operates. Government has opted for a quick fix by providing Genetically Modified Foods to feed its starving populace. The side effects of Genetically modified foods are well documented; including adverse effects like Cancer which has already started impacting on an already severely impoverished population. To counter this, we introduced Climate Smart Agriculture not only to equip children and communities with skills in organic farming free from Pesticides and herbicides but also an agricultural system that takes into account of the land tenure system that is continually being fragmented due to population pressure.
