- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen laid out plans to combat the energy crisis and the ongoing response to Russia in her annual State of the European Union speech on Wednesday.
Von der Leyen announced a cap on the revenues of electricity production companies and a crisis contribution from fossil fuel producers. She said the measures will raise an additional €140 billion (140 billion USD).
The EU chief criticized past subsidies for fossil fuels, and called for greater investment in renewable energy. To this end, she announced an additional €3 billion euros to help build a future hydrogen market.
She said it was crucial that the EU rid itself of the dependency on Russian oil and gas. Since the Russian invasion, imports of Russian now make up just 9% of EU imports, down from a previous 40%.
Amid praise for the EU's rapid response to the Ukraine crisis, von der Leyen furthermore stressed that the EU's support for Ukraine will remain "unshakeable".

@@alexstorm2749 He is referring to Britain and the Suez canal crisis and drawing a comparison between the Russia and Ukraine war currently being fought. He may or may not be right about the Suez canal, but the Russian empire only really changed hands and became the USSR. It expanded after WW2 then fell in the 90s. The 90s was characterised by a capitalist economic system that indentured undeveloped Nations and some of the former USSR states covertly. Putin is a Recidivist. His imperal empire building has been premised on puppet governments and Kleptocracy. Until Ukraine had its revolution of dignity and expelled Russia corruption and exposed its hegemonic pseudo empire for what it is. This war was initially Putin trying to regain control and subvert the government of Ukraine and its citizenry. To bring them back into the fold so to speak. But they said No and chose Democracy. And now we see exactly what is going on. Control of the Ukrainian export and logistics industry would have handed him power over parts of Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. So yes, he is right in that regard.

Barack Obama said the exact same thing in 2014, or to be more precise “Russian economy has been torn to shreds”. And… truthfully Russia has never felt better than after 2014. BTW, endless sanctions (since 2014) made Russia one of the TOP exporters of food and revived Russian agricultural industry. Sanctions only made Russia stronger and MUCH MORE self-sufficient and self-reliant. Plus, brought Russia and China (world’s 2nd economy) MUCH closer together.

Unfortunately that eu policy maker never earned her merit to be in that position, she was put there by a drunken man, behind the doors of a building there in Brussels, the inept policy makers in the tiny eu mafia institution should ask hostile America for independence, before we go down to the gutter with them, the problem is also that those inept policy makers did not ask the average Europeans from our own perspective countries if we wanted to sanction Russian resources, because tiny insignificant eu has no resources, that's right, zero resources, nothing, caput, Russia our neighbor and trusted business partner has been helping us to build Europe, hostile America is far far away and not our neighbor, America's plan is to destroy all European countries, using us like their slaves/proxy's to attack Russia and eventually China, because America is jealous and has evil envy for Russia and China, America is not interested in eu because they know we are insignificant.
Stop the nonsense and be a man!!!

Ursula von der Leyen didn't announce any plans to increase the mount of renewable energy being generated.
She also didn't announce any plans to get people to change the type of energy they rely on, for example if people heat the homes with gas and cook with gas, then they would need to change the boiler and the cooker, for an electric one, but Ursula von der Leyen didn't announce any plans to help people make that change.

But I had to admit sometimes if I listen to some UK politicians it sounds sometime like they would prefer to lift the UKs anchor and sail the entire island to another continent 😉 🇬🇧🇺🇦🇪🇺✌
@@derwolfpack3599 The current situation is de-industrializing Europe, the financial capital of the European Union goes to the United States, the industrial capital of the European Union goes to China, and then a large number of Europeans are unemployed, and Europe will only have tourism, multiculturalism, democracy and freedom.
❤️
I thing europian union is some king of a hierarchy system that want to leave hierarchy of states or rich people, whwre they are. like wester countries and ritcher people ( when we join, i am from czech republic) they promised us we will be equal. And now what we can see. people from easter coutres have payment 2 time lower and less. and western coutries have almost tje same payment for food and electrity and more. ( in the begining the EU in easternt countries gived the money almost to the rich people. So i hope that EU will start to thing, to what they can do for casual people. and maybe repair fails from their past. OR fom my opinion it can be discdhartet. and of cource. people shoud vote fo their representativevs to EU. like realy vote
This is dumbest solution. Just delink electricity pricing with gas and stop trading of electricity and gas in EU market. The profits are mainly due to buying at the contract price and selling at spot market price. There is no real supply issue yet but prices increase based on market speculation. Sweden uses almost zero gas in electricity production and yet they need to pay Nordpool price that is based on gas spot prices. This is just illogical and politicians need to understand basics before coming up with some short term fix that increases suffering in the long term.

Western European: Our GDP is higher than yours, that means whatever we do beats whatever you do. So we always win. That's how the comparison math works, right?
Russian: *cuts off gas*
Western European: It's OK. Economics 101 says that where there's demand, supply will magically appear and since our GDP is high, we will outbid any other losers in the market.
Winter cometh
Western European: *freezes to death, refusing to drop the smug ubermensch face till the very end*
You do know people lived in Europe prior to the invention of gas heating. Reading that comment makes me think you are a head injury victim of a car crash where your LADA has no European technology like modern airbags. 🤣
@@MrWhitmen1981 Before that, they lived a medieval life at drastically lower population levels. If that's worth their smug pride, then think of the smooth transition to that. The point is: America, China, Russia, Canada, Australia, Brazil have resources, so they matter. Europe and Japan don't have any, so they don't matter.
@@MrWhitmen1981 It will all depends if EU population are submissive midgets or real men. Submissive midget will brownose anything EU says.

Let's SCRAP gas and bring in EVERYTHING electric 💡 heating cooking lighting cars etc it's THAT time NOW
How will you produce the electricity? They've tried that is the US's largest state, California. There wasn't enough energy to furnish the sufficient electricity to even charge the electric vehicles. It was a failure.
West has creacted misery for many developing nations, same misery will come upon on the western countries and people of developing nations will have their rights
Do whatever suits you but for God sake don't ask Asian and African nation to do the same.....remember we are not western countries...we are not same..we have different foreign policy....in short we don't hate Russian
russia has nothing to offer to african countries, never did, never helped any african country to develop before, russia has just Wagner for you, like in mali or African central republic.
neither did we until Tzar Putin overplayed his hand
With friends like Russia, who needs enemies?
Your friends say alot about what you're like as well.
"My friend is a murderer"
Time to rethink your friends then.
Europe has but the small part of Europe that is her eu organisation and Germany hasn't.
Why is not imposing sanction to Russian uranium ?
Because the EU needs it, they just want the rest of us to be quiet about it
The EU is, unsurprisingly, seeking additional power. The taxation of energy companies is a matter for EU members - not for the Commission.
It is 'Everybody's business in the name of Freedom against Autocratic USSR rule murder', to pull this issue together.
Give Ukraine more weapons so they can win faster and become the new energy suppplier to EU.
Its obvious EU is fighting what doesn't belong to them, and definitely EU will fail and Russia will stand.

Does Ukraine have gas and oil in large amounts?
You need to get your brain checked.
@@tomorrowneverdies567 maybe he means Russian gas, which Ukraine will be transporting through its territory after Russia is defeated.
