Yo tuve la fortuna de escuchar el debut de la Caballe en el Colón ! Solo sabíamos que era una soprano catalana que parecería que era buena . No existía Internet! La reacción que tuvimos fue espontánea y no tuvo nada que ver con la muerte de Liu, que obviamente sabíamos que no moría de verdad! Sino fue escuchar una maravillosa interpretación de la muerte de la última heroina pucciniana! Fue una conjunción maravillosa ! Cada vez que la escucho lloro! Caballe junto con Tebaldi , las más grandes!
Qué momento mágico. Esos aplausos ante la belleza del canto de Caballé. Es entendible que te sigan emocionando. Me alegra muchísimo que hayas podido estar presente en esa función de Turandot.

Pero hay una circunstancia poco conocida, por los que no pertenecieron al Teatro colón, que es como sigue : " Birgit Nilsson llegó al Hotel donde se hospedaban los artistas que participaban de esa Turandot y vió a Montserrat muy triste, con las valijas "hechas" que le dijo a la Nilsson, "La esperaba para despedirme, el Maestro Previtali me protestó, la Nilsson le respondió, tu no te vas" y partió para el Teatro Colón. Allí pidió una entrevista con el Director General y lo puso al tanto de la situación, agregando " Si Caballé no canta Liù , busque también una soprano para Turandot " Por supuesto que esta actitud de Birgit Nilsson puso "ORDEN" en toda esta injusta situación y la función se realizó con ambas, y el público pudo gozar de la MARAVILLA que fue el espectáculo. Tengo otra curiosidad sobre esta Función , el 14 de Setiembre de 1965 , fue una Función Vespertina (17 horas ) de Domingo . Birgit Nilsson, se había retirado de Buenos Aires, por otros compromisos, Gladys Kuchta había llegado ese Domingo a las 12 horas, y a la 17 horas, asumió el rol de Turandot "SIN ENSAYO DE ORQUESTA SOLO CON UNA LIGERA "PASADA A LA ITALIANA EN EL PIANO" Armando Cerutti - barítono
Esa Liu es sin ninguna duda la mejor Liu y el teatro colon se vino abajo no por que la quisieran, si no por que fue acojonantisimamente buena y el teatro con y su audiencia en aquel momento sabía lo que decían. They might love her or not, but this Liu at colon could possibly be the best Liu ever and at that time the colon and the audience knows were they were applauding to.
@@onegin653 the conductor should not have been conducting Turandot if they did not understand the fundamental sonic difference between the Princess and Liu. It's surely not a battle of the titans! I figured she might just be having one of those days when the voice would let her sing but wasn't at its divine pianissimo perfection, so she pulled out her full voice perfection instead. I can hear what you mean about the conductor going for loudness in the orchestra instead of drama.

En directo siempre he preferido la Liu de Moffo, pero la grabación en disco de Caballé es inmejorable.
