  • Welcome back!
The show is finally here and boy are we excited! After getting some tractoras and plows unloaded for some friends, we managed to get Don Duffner out to the field and hooked up to one of our 12-bottom plows. After some adjustments, we are ready for the show.
Thanks for watching and I will see you at the show!

My cousin has a 730d and I love seeing it plow and disk. The first time I saw it working, he (an engineer) was disking his large garden with it. I walked out towards him waving my hand in a circle trying to get him to give it some throttle! He saw me, and just shook his head and kept on getting it!
That 830triple seems like it was at a high rpm.

Dad took delivery of a Deere R diesel just before Christmas 1963 and it's matching 4 btm plow. I discovered it on a Saturday morning about 8 AM. We spent the morning trying to start it cold. I had to run for two tanks of gas for the gutless 2 cyl Pony, and never got a pip out of the diesel, just smoke. Dad proudly informed me it was " Your tractor for this spring". Dad did get it started and ran it 20 miles to his favorite Deere dealer for a tune-up so it did start better, but we pulled an IH #8 3-14 plow most of the spring, we pulled the matching 4-14 Deere plow 1 or 2 days plowing 40 acres of alfalfa sod, 2nd gear was best the R could do, and I got lectured about lugging it on one short clay hill, had to stop and shift to 1st gear! Dad was ahead of me on the Super M-TA rounding off corners, we were plowing around in circles, no headlands, just keep the right frt tire in the furrow and drive, I had just had my 10th birthday a day or two before, that pop-pop-pop out the stock muffler was causing my ears to ring for hours and hours after we stopped plowing. I had spent a lot of time on the SM-TA the summer before, plowing, cultivating, mowing hay, and never had ringing ears. The neighbor's 730 diesel I could hear like it was sitting in our barnyard from a quarter mile away. I guess we weren't as smart back then about what that terrible noise was doing with our hearing. I drove semi for 3-4 years, a Detroit Diesel causes the same ringing ears. A 903 or 350 Cummins never caused me any problems. I was never given a set of ear muffs to lessen loud noises until I worked on large metal cutting shears at IH's East Moline Plant, also ran punch presses that were really loud. Worked 2nd shift, 3 PM to Midnight, drove the 20 minutes home and crawled in bed and no ringing ears. I suspect there's a way to synchronize the three 2 cyl engines to quiet them down, and also if they get out of synch they could blurr your vision.
I will say I'd like to watch that BIG ROME with the V8 CAT stretch it's legs.

Great memories Dr. EVIL! We almost bought an R, but ended up with a 3010 gas instead, much to my disappointment! I was a teenager before I was exposed to the miracle known as ear plugs. Thanks to our 720 diesel, my hearing was taking a beating. I was mowing hay when I first tried them, I was amazed at the difference the plugs made. They not only took the sound of the engine down considerably, but I was still able to hear the knives when a guard would get misaligned... Dang Woodchucks! Early adult years I worked in the family gravel business and was exposed to multiple Detroit Diesel stationary engines and equipment, but thanks to those old yellow foam earplugs, I still have decent hearing in my late 50's.
As for synching those 830's, I don't think there's a way without having the crankshafts directly connected. That's where that Sound Guard Cab really shines. Working inside the cab of our 4240 is quieter than being at my desk with the office ladies cackling!

its too bad those transport trailers don't have a way to plug in the hydrolikx on the last 50 miles to get the fluilds flowing and warmed up so the tractors fluids are REASDY TO MOVE on first startup, seemed like it could help longetivity in my head... would it be a good thing?

I don't see how it would cost 2 mill for trip 830s even with full restoration. You can buy them separately for like 20-25k with almost perfect restorations. Custom cab job and link systems still wouldn't cost 2 mill. Seems excessive. Maby 300-500k at most. Even then I think that's a bit on the high end.
