    Interesting fact: This is from George Kollias Solo Album. But unlike most metal musicians (Or even, musicians in general) he truly means the word solo: He not only performed all drums but recorded all instruments: bass, guitar and even did the vocals. So he's also one of the best multi instrumentalists in metal today.

      I would hope he would implement his crossover skills in death metal too. I always find him to be exhilaratingly fast but overall really dull in Nile albums. His countryman Fotis Benardo is equally fast, but actually uses his skills in other musical areas to create some interesting jazzy dynamics in an otherwise 280 bpm blasting environment.

We anxiously wait for the occupants to exit, and sure enouth, it's none other than the band. Being a metal drummer I was very aware of George and his skill. In case no one's said it yet, it's the "swivel foot" technique. That and heel toe are very common in metal. Some drummers use heel toe with hitting 2 strokes on each foot. 1, 2 on right foot, then 1, 2 on left, alternating between. If that makes sense.

  • @Seanalbertt
    @Seanalbertt Před 3 lety +1

    2 things. 1 Playing fast with your feet isn’t hard, but what makes him better than the rest is his ability to control his feet by accenting individual hits, and stopping on dime, then starting back at the same speed .5 seconds later while basically suspended on a drum throne (hello calves), and 2 how the HELL does he make it look so easy!? It looks like he’s almost relaxing at some points!

    George uses the swivel technique in such a way that for every left motion, he gets two strokes in that position, likewise when he swivels right. Not a heel-toe double, but like a Thomas Lang kind of double stroke. Bad ass.
    Analyze away dude! i wanna hear that stuff!

    A bunch of ppl has probably already said the same thing but the double pedal stuff George is doing is called swivel technique and i have played drums (mostly metal) for 25 years and its a technique i Still try to learn!🤘

    ~August Burns Red - Composure~
    The Adam Gray drum cam from AJK Productions.
    He's not their regular drummer, but he's a close friend from the same town that as far as I know has been the only one they've used to fill the spot if Matt Greiner can't make a tour.

    swivel technique. the side to side movement generates a downward push of the toes when the heel changes directions. helps you maintain power at high speeds.
