    I'm a single female and windows have been acting up and one finally fell out of track. Didn't know what to do and was going to call someone. Searched what kind of window I had and came across your video I can't thank you enough for the clear, concise video you provided. After watching it a few times I fixed my window in 15 minutes! Thanks so much!

    In the process of selling my home and have people coming over to look at the house. Was freaked out when the spring on my window came loose. I thought I was going to have to shell out some money on a new one. Thank you so much for this video!

    My balance spring was stuck at the top as well. I simply lowered the window all the way. Then I used a soft rubber objuct and a hammer to hammer the spring down far enough that I could pull the clip out. then I raised the window back up. the spring was kept down and I was able to take out the window. Then I could do the required repairs and re-assemble the unit.
    Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction. Once I saw how it was done it was very easy!

    I never get tired of saying this but CZcams instructional videos are completely awesome.
    I was scratching my head trying to figure out why my BR window came off
    its tracks and how to resinstall.... In two minutes I had my answer in

    Second time in two weeks CZcams has saved me from breaking something on my way to fixing something!

    Thanks so much for posting this video. My window had been stuck and unable to lock since before I bought the home. The prior home owner said it never did operate right. One of the balance springs was jammed above the window. This simple how to video made fixing the problem quick and easy. Good instructions and visuals that were easy to follow even for a DIY challenged person like myself. I was able to remove the window,reset the balance springs and reinstall the window in just about 5 minutes.

    Thank you very much. I had no idea what the metal runners on the side of the window were until I stumbled on this video. Thank you so much for this simple yet informative video. The installers failed to properly place the little plastic channel on the top of each side of the window so when we lifted the window too high the springs came out and we could not figure out how to replace them. It's easy with a little knowledge. Thanks again.

    Thank you for this video! I just had this happen to 4 front windows rarely used, and exposed to intense summer sun. After researching Pella (never a pleasant experience), for about 2 hours, I stumbled upon this video and BINGO, exactly what I was trying to 'understand.' Pella never even mentioned the term 'balance spring' and I even looked through installment pdf files for anything which gave me a clue about what the issue was. Nothing about removing the the lower sash (although I knew there was a way) either. (Being a basic dummy on windows and terms!). It took me all of a few minutes to complete this task on the 4 windows, all working perfectly again.

    Sometimes the take-out clips can be a little tricky to get out if they are hung up on the top. There is a small rib in the top barb that keeps them in. The best way to get this out is to try and keep the clip as close to parallel to the window frame as possible while pulling the clip out. It may take a little wiggling to finally free it. Eventually it will come loose.

    If both of the springs have come disengaged you would follow the re-seating instruction as outlined in the video on both sides. The only thing that would be different is getting the sash removed from the window frame. It might be something that requires a few extra hands. You just have to get the sash up to a point where you can remove the springs.

  • @amscowindows
    @amscowindows  Před 12 lety

    It does make it more difficult to re-seat the balance spring if one side is sticking. You can still resolve this yourself. The trick is to raise the window sash above the stuck spring and shift the sash over the top of the spring. You might need to collapse the take out clip on the side where the spring is seated to raise it high enough. An other possibility is to try and remove the jammed spring. This might not be possible.
    If you still have trouble please let us know.

    It is very difficult to perform this function without the take out clips. You will be best served to replace the missing clips. Please see our video "Replacing the take out clips in a vinyl window" for this process.

    I looked and didn't see a manuf. label. My problem, now, is the company providing the replacement balances says they have to order them from another company and they just give that other company the measurements of the balance and the descrip and/or part # of the plastic pieces on the top and bottom but not a descrip or part # of the hook. So now I have to drive to their shop for the 5th time--30 minutes each way--to show them hook on orig balance so they can order it. My confidence is waning.

    Hi. I'm having some difficulty with getting the replacement balance springs (rods? assemblies?) from a local company. They provided two, so far, of the six I've ordered--after mixing up my order with that of another customer. Now that I have two of them, I tried using your method in this video for installing the new balance springs but that was when I realized the hook at the bottom was different from that on my original balance springs. Can you direct me as to how to obtain the correct hooks?

    The best thing we can advise is to contact the company that manufactured the windows directly. They should be able to help. If you are not sure how to identify the manufacturer you can visit the AAMA website (aamanet.org) to get that information. Look under the certified products directory.

    Super easy to replace! However, the window loudly squeaks and is stiff but only in the last inch or two in closing it. Is this normal and it will get better? Or do I need to try to center it better?

    • @amscowindows
      @amscowindows  Před 7 lety +1

      If the springs are making noise it might be because they are about to fail or it could be that they are rubbing against something. If you need new springs they are available at a few outlets around the web. If it is that they are rubbing we suggest taking the spring out and doing a quick inspection for obvious debris or looking for something in the sliding track of the window that might be causing it. Hope that helps.

  • @amscowindows
    @amscowindows  Před 12 lety

    Without more information regarding the type of window that you have I am not sure how to direct your efforts. There are so many different types of windows. I would recommend getting some pictures of the window and sending them to us. You can use the service contact on our website to upload pictures and we will gladly assist you where we can.

  • @amscowindows
    @amscowindows  Před 11 lety

    Unfortunately, there is not secret method to getting jammed parts and pieces unstuck. It take some force to overcome the jamb. If it is something that you are not comfortable with we recommend contacting your local dealer or glass shop.

  • @amscowindows
    @amscowindows  Před 10 lety

    Unfortunately, there is no reliable amount that we could give as a range for cost of replacement. Each situation and market is different. So, what would hold true in one might be completely inaccurate in another. If you need parts we recommend contacting a dealer or the manufacturer of the window. If it is an AMSCO Window, we have a strong dealer network in our service markets that can help you. You can find a dealer near you on our website.

    What if one of the balance springs is stuck at the top of the right side but the other side works? The window is able to go up (and stay up without sliding down by itself), as well as be closed by pulling or pushing down. However that metal bar (spring) is stuck at the top, and thus now we can't take out the sash to fix. Can we not DIY or do we have to call someone else to fix it?
