    The Kaladin jump scene brought me to tears. What a character arch. His whole journey he’s been living out his oath to protect others. We’ve always known that even before he swore to protect but that oath had also been the major source of his depression. This felt like the first oath he really had to earn because he’s been struggling and fighting this ideal since before the events of book one. It really felt like he deserved this one. A beautiful arch for a character whose tried so hard for so long.

    I think Raboniel and Lezian were surprised by the glove fabrial because when Navani sent it to Kal it was sent with Dabbid and had a written note and instructions so they weren't discussing it much through the Sibling connection. When she spoke to him she just said something vague like did you get it, ok read the instructions and practice

    I believe its said that Dabed found Kaladin after, Kaladin is rescued from the high storm or at least iit can be assumed as Dabed then went to get help for Kaladin while he was having the visions. Presumably, Dabed could have found him because of the sibling. Also yes I want bit more on Tanvast

    When you talk about Kaladin and how you could lose a few of the combat scenes I kinda disagree because I think it's sort of the point that you should get tired of them. By the end of part three you should be as tired as Kaladin is of fighting so I don't think you could lose the scenes. They are supposed to be exhausting rather than exciting because he is exhausted by the time the well happens.

    Anyone notice how the two Orders of Radiants that have access to the Surge of Division (Skybreakers and Dustbringers/Releasers) have what seem to be the most restrictive oaths? We've seen the Skybreaker Ideals, and from what little we've seen of the Dustbringers, their Ideals revolve around obedience and self-mastery. I imagine they're like that in part because Division is such a dangerous Surge and can only be allowed to be controlled by the most strict set of rules.

    28:40-I thought this sequence about kaladin and the glove was also setting up for possibilities with Rysn. If modified to a belt, she could levitate at will. Different gems for different directions and she would be way more mobile than a floating chair. Chirri-Chirri could act as her counter weights/directions maybe ...

    HI ERIC! 👋 You were very enthusiastic in the intro. I'm not sure why but that intro made me start laughing at my desk.
    I'm not done listening yet, but my favorite thing of Rhythm of War was the Navani development. I loved everything about her sections. Is it just me or was there a lot of unrealized sexual tension between Navani and Raboniel?

    One thing I found interesting about Raysium is that it doesn't seem to "interact" (as in it only conducts the investiture and doesn't react/annihilate with it) with anti-voidlight given that both of those things are Odium's investiture.
    Why does "solid" and "gaseous" (two different states of similar Investiture) investiture/anti-Investiture don't react ? I am wondering if it because of the god metal being related to the Vessel and the Lights being more of the Shard itself. I am relating the whole "we can't have Atium/Lerasium because Ati and Leras are dead", but we also have "distilling Harmonium can yeild Atium/Lerasium" so who knows. Can we no longer produce Raysium? Will the god metal change for Odium? 😶
    Also, how does it "conduct" the investiture? I don't think it's the same as electrons moving through a metal. May be it creates some kind of tunneling effect, similar to the oathgates teleportation trick.
    Which also brings up a few other questions, can we make anti-Raysium or any anti-Godmetal in general since that is also a form of Investiture and how (just imagine having an anti-Honorblade, that would be rad)? Can we (not) convert "gaseous" into "solid" (god metal) investiture? What about the liquid shard pools likey the WoA? What happens to a perpendicularity when you throw/take anti-Investiture (of the same shard) through it ? What happens when you stab a Raysium blade into a perpendicularity, does it go through the perpendicularity or does it collapse it?
    So many questions.

    • @infinityfringe
      @infinityfringe Před 3 lety

      God metals are a product of solid investiture. The investiture is a product of the Shard itself. Despite the naming convention, we don't have any solid evidence that points to a Shard Holder changing the properties of the respective God metal.
      I'm not 100% sure of that. The only God Metals we've seen change is due to the Shards changing form so I'm more inclined to say that the Shard is what matters.

    30:30 YES! I wanted Navani to go do manual labor not deliver a huge technological advance to the enemies that Navani could have done herself if the sibling cooperate imo, so when we found out she was being spied on I was like Navani you are a fool. I wanted the sibling to choose Rlain, but I do like the Bondsmith couple going forward and R'lain will have cool powers too. The Sibiling not talking to Dalinar, a Bondsmith, at all I found confusing as well.
    Kaladin is my favorite character and I really liked him pioneering mental health, but I wish he talked about what specfically about the 4th ideal was so hard. I think Lirin would have had good advice if he knew what his son was having a hard time swearing. Dalinar showing him the vision of Tien was epic.

    • @joshuafischer684
      @joshuafischer684 Před 3 lety +2

      We don't really need to see Kaladin talking about how difficult the 4th Ideal is for him because we see it in his character from WoK. He doesn't deal with failure well, and has also never gotten anyone's perspective on that Ideal that actually gets through to him. Lirin tells him that he'll grow numb to failure, his life experiences reinforce that failure to protect people makes everything worse, and even Dalinar doesn't get through to him. It takes a vision to his dead brother to finally break through and get him to realize that he cannot be a slave to his failures.
      Basically all of Part 4 of Oathbringer is Kaladin thinking about why the 4th Ideal is so hard.

    Love the discussion and I loved the book. From my perspective I found the pacing of the book slow and like a waiting for Superman type of experience. The first 3 books let the radiants display their powers or the growth into their powers. This book they are nerfed for the middle section of the book and you want to see powers but it’s all delayed. The final 200 pages are worth the read but I could have used a faster pace to the read. That being said, looks like book 5 is shaping up to be insane.
