If it wasn’t Paul King doing it, I’d be a lot more worried. But Paddington and Paddington 2 were incredible so….. I’m optimistic
Paul king is amazing screen writer and director he’s like our Russell t Davis who does doctor who
I don't get why people would support this when they are making fun of people with Dwarfism and adding to negative stereotypes by using CGI like it's a joke!
The trajectory of emotion Jay went through during this must break the charts. I’m hoping Wonka is as charming as the trailer makes it look. I loved the Paddington movies so fingers crossed. I think the casting is great especially when you consider this movie’s true audience is children. Just like the original (no matter how scary). We are here for the nostalgia.
Never seen the Paddington movies. Didn't think adults could enjoy it.

I am very willing to give this movie a chance now that I've seen the trailer. I think this looks as Jay said, "Charming as hell." I'm cautiously optimistic.
"Cautiously optimistic" is the best description of my current opinion since last night.
I've never read the books, I adore the '71 film, I strongly dislike the Burton film, and was very "Ugh, whatever" when I first heard about this project months ago...UNTIL I watched this trailer. Now I'm looking forward to it, but VERY aware that it could miss the mark. We shall see...

I’m a huge fan of the original movie and the books just like Jay, and this trailer made me legit emotional. It’s pitch-perfect. It’s like if they took the magic of Paddington, bottled it, and poured it into a chocolate bar. I can’t wait for this one…maybe my most anticipated movie now.

As someone who is NOT a big Wonka fan, never read the books, and likes both film adaptations equally, I think this is a very refreshing take. I didn't care about this film at all till now.
The fact that this is supposed to be gene wilders willy wonka is what I don't like about it
First of all, gene wilders version is far better staying mysterious, it's half the reason he was so intriguing
Second, I'm not impressed by the performance of the new wonka. Not saying the actor isnt a good actor, but he just can't replicate Genes personality, atleast from what I've seen in the trailer he can't.
@@jackbluehq6653 I read that he's supposed to be a combination of BOTH Wonkas.
@@oliviarogers2808 this is very clearly supposed to be the origin of gene wilders, its not their own unique wonka in a different universe
You can tell because they he says the same iconic line "scratch that, reverse it" and the oompa loompa seen is the ones from the og film
Maybe personality wise their trying to combine both, but in terms of the story this is the 1971 wonka
And like I said, not only is this only gonna ruin genes wilders great version but I'm not impressed with the attempt to replicate genes personality as wonka
Honestly, this trailer had me at "From the director of Paddington." That's literally all I needed.
Imagine the candy that will come out from this movie, that's what I'm excited for and I'm sure the movie will be alright
Adam's Slugworth cosplay would be top tier
This movie is a musical, I feel like that explains the more fantastical looking sequences.
There was a bit where he appeared to be talking to his mother, or I assume to her grave or memory.
If the story presents Wonka as the narrator telling the tale from his own fantastical perspective to his mother, that could play to the more whimsical aspects. Especially as a musical.

Hugh Grant as the oompaloompa? Worth the price of admission right there 🤗
Yes, the Wonka mystery is a big part of the story. Similar thing with Amazons focus on Galadriel in the Rings of Power. That being said (and unlike Rings of Power), this seems decent for what it is, Timothee Chamalamadingdong is a great actor and well cast (by the looks of things) as young Wonka. The Paddington movies had a nice vibe and I think it fits well with Roald Dahl aesthetic. I'm not nearly as opposed to it after seeing the trailer, might be fun to watch with my nephew.
This film is also a prequel to the original, the gene wilder edition. This is how he became Wonka, i have faith in Paul King and Timothee Chalamet
I was in the "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!" camp...until the oompa loompa appeared. "too late, I've started dancing now. Once you start it you can't stop."
I think it just comes down to writing and directing here. Without any text on the screen you know this was directed and written by people in the Paddington, Winnie the Pooh Remake, Fantastic Beasts realm. And thats the kind of film you are going to get.
"Just keep your heart open" sounds like a line from Mr. Wonka. I can hear Gene Wilder say it and then wink at a small child.
You guys are hysterical and adorable
It's the fact that Paul King is directing this that I am excited for this. I just love both of his Paddington movies. They are pure delight and if he can bring that to Wonka I am going to be very pleased.
The "Chocolate cartel" and "No daydreaming" gave me a chuckle.
Jay's hilarious laughter and Adam's reaction to it is all the serotonin I need to last a month. I love you guys.
OMG...Adam is Slugworth. Next cosplay unlocked!
The fact that it looks like a prequel to the original movie is what has me interested.
It is actually
I don't know. It seemed Iike Jay had it out for this trailer from 'Go.' The fact that his wife felt she had to prep him says something.
I mean, it's not quite as bizarrely whimsical as the original. It seems to be more in that Paddington/Hugo/Jingle Jangle kind of Holiday kids movie wonder style. Which is fine. It looks to be very charming, but it might require someone to detach from what's come before it.
Jay’s laughter is enough to give a Peach wings. Like for real, it just makes my day.
Jay’s rant about Wonka’s origins sparked a theory in my mind: Willy Wonka is Tom Bombadil.
Everyone mentions Paddington, but if you want a weird, dark comedy, his movie, "Bunny and the Bull", starring the co-writer of Wonka (Farnaby), is wonderfully weird. It's dark, funny, and very sad.
PK was also the director of the British show, "The Mighty Boosh", which I love with all my heart.
It’s a prequel to both Willy Wonka and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but mostly Willy Wonka And the Chocolate Factory.
i swear every time there’s a whimsical film they’re like “PUT A GIRAFFE IN THERE!”
Because the original Wonka was so long ago, its impossible to hit the same tone exactly. I love that film. You cant help but see the Potter-Paddington dna within this. It wouldnt be out of place as pqrt of the potterverse, but I agree that Dahl's stories are always are a certain/different kind of grounded dark fantasy to that. I'm open to seeing if it meets the middle ground and the songs will make or break it.
I’m entirely in love with this trailer honestly. I was already excited, it looks even better than I thought it would be.
I don't get why people would support this when they are making fun of people with Dwarfism and adding to negative stereotypes by using CGI like it's a joke!
I just had to watch Jay’s face the whole time. Fear and joy all at once!
I can honestly say I am not really a fan of whimsical stuff but this really caught my eye. So saying this, I am actually surprised to both of your reactions. Can't wait for the follow up regarding this one from the two of you.
They delibertaly didn't pitch it IN THIS TRAILER that this movie is a musical. When they do release a musical version of the trailer, I think the "magical" parts will hit even better.
I'm still waiting for a movie about Charlie running the factory. As long as it doesn't end with him moving the factory to Hershey PA.
I don’t mind that they’re doing an origin, he’s not the Joker, I don’t need all this mystery around him, actually they do need to explain his behavior. And I loved the Broadway play.
I actually can't believe that I'm hyped for this.....this looks freaking awesome.... here Take my chocolate 🍫
Jay I love your appreciation of the first movie. I get all your references.😂
So glad you guys did this one..looks special
Love how Adam just held his breath for 90% of the trailer until Hugh Grant started talking.
I was soooo excited for the possibility of this film and the entire trailer deflated every ounce of excitement. I hope the movie does better😢
Now I wanna see Jay and Adam at the wonka factory.
I love both movies and I'm sure I will love this. You still have the original.
I didn't even know they were making this until today. Nice to hear a reference to Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. Everyone always seems to forget that exists.
Revenge, or at least reaping the unpleasant consequences of your actions, is such a central tenet of so many of Dahl's books that I'm genuinely surprised that they're not more up Adam's alley. Too young for him now, of course, but the way the Twits or George's grandma in George's Marvellous Medicine end up is pretty satisfying. Dahl had a finely honed sense of vengeance and poetic justice and he really funnelled it into his children's stories, but perhaps it is too poetic and whimsical and not enough pure vongeance.
Yes!!! I was exited about the glass elevator reference as well!!
“From the director of Paddington” Okay, here’s my money.
Wonka sports the same outfit as Gonzo in a Muppets Christmas carol
Much like Jay I am a huge Wonka fan. The books and the original movie hold a special place in my heart. I NEVER KNEW THIS WAS COMING but Now I am super excited for it. I hope we are not disappointed.
Damn. Not the reaction I was expecting from Jay. I can't call myself a huge Chocalate Factory "fan" (I've only seen the original film and really enjoyed it), but this looked fantastic in my eyes. I'm not even a huge musical fan either, but with this cast, I may have to look past that. Love the festive, lighthearted feel to this trailer. This just looks like a ton of FUN and a much needed Christmas film (we haven't had a legitimate festive holiday film in a while). I haven't seen Paddington, but I know those films are some of the most beloved family movies in recent memory. There's a lot of positive going for this. I'm very intrigued.
Yo been waiting for this one!
I have no skin in the game, since I have never seen the other movies, but this doesn't look too bad. The most I've seen from Willy Wonka was probably the R-Rated version that Corridor Crew made. 😄
This looks like it's gonna be a pretty solid movie imho. Only time will tell.
I am totally down with this trailer and SO want to see it in theaters. To me they encapsulated the dangerous/sweet/heartwarming side of Willy in Timothy and I'm sold on the fact the Paddington and Harry Potter people are involved.
Plus Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson?? Yes please!
I mean, judging by Timothée Chalamet’s previous work, and his subtle wisdom for his age that I have seen in interviews, I don’t think he would’ve chosen a bad role from a bad script. He may have been seduced by the grandiosity of such a role, though I doubt he would’ve been, given the scale of his recent roles.
Fun fact, he didn't even have to audition for the role as Wonka because they thought he was perfect as the role after just watching an old performance of him on CZcams.
My face did the same thing as Jay's when the Paddington card went up, and then the same as Adam's when the next card came up 😂 I love when you both just crack each other up, Jay hit a Pillsbury dough boy level laugh at one point he was so tickled (as was I haha)
Im assuming you guys have either already seen it, or just didnt know it exists, can you guys do the new Napoleon movie trailer?
The OG movie would make for a fun patreon watch-along
This looks fantastic.
The ying & yang of the Wonka Slugworth vibes you two give is finally clicking for me
This is a mix of a musical, that's why you see a lot of fantastical shots and of course they daydream too (if you see in the trailer, the cop says to Wonka that he can's daydream)
I love this trailer.
I can totally see Lash, as he's carried away by Oompah Loompahs, screaming "This is no way to run a factory!"
Just did my reaction as well! i wasnt expecting to love this so much XD
I'm so excited for this movie
This is going to be a musical but the trailer doesn’t have any musical numbers and doesn’t really show any of the characters singing, which ultimately makes me more optimistic about how this could turn out. Like Jay said, this trailer has magical moments in it, and my hope is that the full movie will have an innumerable amount of magical moments woven into the music, the visuals, the characters, and they simply just aren’t in this trailer. I also think it being from the Director of Paddington, Paul King, is a good sign they’ll be able to get the tone right.
With that being said they also could’ve just shown the best of what they have in this trailer and it’s all downhill from here and if that’s the case, I’ll probably come back in a few months and delete this comment out of shame.
Jay's faces throughout 😂
I thought it be him going into the world and discovering everything he take about in the original film.
I was born when this movie cam out and it was a large part of my childhood and fondly entrenched in my heart. I am mildly excited for this...
Jay got his Fix It dream. Nathan Fillion is the next Green Lantern
As soon as I saw that the trailer dropped, my immediate reaction was "Oh no. How is Jay going to react?"
What always intrigued me about Wilder's Wonka was the hints of darkness...it wasn't all whimsical. This seems a little too whimsical to be a Wilder Wonka origin story, but we'll see.
It looks interesting. I read Charlie and the glass elevator as a kid but I do not remember a lot from it. I am glad though it is not another remake.
5:33 ...literally 3 seconds after I said to my wife : "Wow, Jay's conflicted."
I have somewhat controversial experiences with live theater, so I relate to Jay's review of Wonka on Broadway. It was LAME. I somehow managed to actually have fun with the final version of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, then somehow get pissed off with Wonka on Broadway. I never thought I'd say that, but the 2.0 version of Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark was actually really fun, and Wonka was just lame as fuck on Broadway. Life isn't real.
Hey guys. Have y’all watched the trailer for the nun 2 yet? I’d love to see your reaction to that one. Have a great day
Got an autograph from Mike TV from the original movie, he was helping opening a candy store near me
not a remake, and I love that book too. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is such a great adaptation, and Willy Wonka is also a great movie. This looks great and magical, and feels true to the source.
Not even the second one was a "remake" it was definitely more of a Re-imagined because of the huge difference in art styles and the writing in the main characters.
@@djskinnypeninsula yeah, the Tim Burton one was based more on the book than the Gene Wilder one.
"I wore a purple tux!" Jay is serious about Willy Wonka, wow
I was thinking this was a prequel tale to the 70s Willy Wonka having completely forgotten that Johnny Depp had done a Willy Wonka - I wasn't able to accept this as a prequel to Gene Wilder's character but now understanding it's more of an early Depp Wonka I can sort of see it.
I think it looks really good and promising, but than again i never read the book and i only PARTIALLY saw the original movie.
9:12 Jay quickly loses his mind
I too love the joy and whimsy of the original movie, and I think this trailer is pretty darn close, while still updating it for a modern audience. I trust the filmakers and producers, the casting is good, costumes and sets look awesome, all the pieces are there! Now we wait to see if it sticks the landing. 🤞
Is that Paul Atreides as Wonka? I think my brain broke.
Nice to know you've seen Lion king stage show. It was seriously incredible!
I teared up...I couldn’t help it...😢 i was hesitant..but now im like ok..giving it a chance.
He may not being trying to do an impression. He may be putting his own spin on the character. This trailer's fine.
I did several facepalms when reading a few comments here stating that they loved the "original" movie so much... only to find out they were talking about the one with Johnny Depp. 😐
The Johnny depp one is my least favorite the original is the best in my opinion with gene wilder
best reaction I’ve seen, just sitting there and staring
Jay, I had no idea you were such a wonka fan. That said, have you seen the snowpiercer-is-a-secret-Wonka-sequel fan theory?
If not, I'd personally love to see you react to it.
I see WILLY WONKA meets THE GREATEST SHOWMAN.
I’m sensing a musical.
To me this does in fact give young Gene Wilder Willy Wonka vibes. I think it looks fantastic. 💜
This thumbnail is fcking amazing!!!😂😂
I'm intrigued. The risk is great, but the reward could be worth it. The question is-how does he become a recluse? The end of the backstory is massive success, but also, he's a recluse.
I saw the Broadway show too. Pretty baffling. Ticket prices being what they are, I expect some set design, and certainly for this story!
I never cared much for Wonka. The closest I came was developing an appreciation for the "Good Day Sir!" bit since a podcast I worked on signed off with that every episode. I doubt I will pay money to go see this, but if it is received well enough I will likely watch it once it goes streaming.
Wonka! That sort of thing ain't my bag, baby.
Wow Jay great Doctor Who reference Wonka is like the Doctor and his past should remain a mystery.
There are great opportunities for them to build on the Wonka universe.
Two preview'd vids b4 i do a long shift? Let's get it🔥
When I saw this trailer I was completely surprised at what I saw because I was told a few months ago that this was meant to be a really dark and gritty telling of Wonkas Origin but then it turned out to be silly and a musical
This is Musical Christmas Movie so The Concept is already told and We Know How British and American Musical Movies like it.
i very much subscribe to the theory that Wonka is a Harry Potter type Wizard and he is a lost Weasley/Prewitt. Maybe a Great Uncle to Fred and George Weasley. this Theory also includes Mary Poppins is a Witch in the same vein.
I'm intrigued
I adored the Willy Wonka movie and I’m super excited for this! My heart exploded with nostalgia ❤
