[Plot Introduction/ synopsis]
The play tells the story of the princess Wang Xuan (played by Zhang Ziyi) who has a first love, the third prince Zitan (played by Tony Yang). Wang Xuan was involved in the court battle because of the prophecy of "getting her, getting the world." She became her father's chess piece and married Lord Yuzhang, Xiao Qi (played by Zhou Yiwei), from a humble background. Soon, Prince Helan (played by Yuan Hong) kidnapped Wang Xuan to seek revenge on Xiao Qi. The couple fell in love with each other because of a blessing in disguise. In the end, the couple joined hands to create a new era and guard their homeland's people.

I have to say that this is one of the best dramas I have watched in awhile. I fell in love with all the characters and each actor played their part well. It even had me feeling sorry for the villians at times. I am a bit disappointed in the last few episodes because it felt rushed, it left us wanting to know more. Parts left on the cutting room floor, are parts I'd pay to see. Other than that, I really loved The Rebel Princess and I'm sure I will rewatch many times. Bravo to the cast and crew!!!

Wasn’t fully clear how XQ’s advice helped stabilize the country. The big hurdle is the elitism of the noble class and their assumption that they know best and are better than others. That was a major stumbling block and blind spot for the country. How can you know best for people you’ve been too privileged to ever get to know or truly care about except for what revenues, goods and tributes they can provide you?
Oh, and I, too, loved how I developed a soft spot for some of the villains, particularly Helan Zhen. Well done and that kind of writing better represents the fullness of our humanity.

The true evil is Awu's dad. Song was just one of his pawn. Too sad as I cried for Song saying, he doesn't wanna come back to the capital. He lost everything too and lost balance. The story is indeed so good, delivered so well. One of a kind story about marriage, brotherhood and kinships and true to thy self. Congratulations to the cast and the productions. Such a masterpiece indeed truly! Admin, thank you heaps for English subs. You satisfy us international audience. Kudos viewers, patiently waiting every night for the new episode, like me.
Song, for whatever reason, is not a fully evolved person, so he was able to be manipulated by temptation of wealth + power. Due to this, he chose his path & ending. Victim is someone who is not giben time to reflect or choice.

He was greedy and started taking bribes while he was still just a trusted soldier under Xiao Qi, and in the end, his greed led him to betray everyone, even Awa’s father, because his vaulting ambition and hubris led him to believe only he was entitled to rule the country. Access to money and power merely revealed his true nature. The better men had their personal ethics. Even Awu’s brother chose to do the right thing over his filial duty to his father, by saving the baby prince/heir to the throne.

I am literally crying 😭, this is the first Chinese historical drama tv show that I actually finished and extremely enjoyed. I mean every episode gave you everything, there was always cliffhangers, and the cast 😩 omg the cast gave me a new light. Just beautiful ❤️ thank you to the translators as I am a English language person, every scene being translated for my language have me truly graceful.

这个剧每个人都是主角!!从一开头的人设到最后，贯彻全部。长裙拖地没有问题啊！？每一个人的演技都看到了诚意，我都理解与喜欢!章子怡很好，她是有用心去揣摩的，一开始比较天真的从小被宠爱但大气的公主人设，到每个人都背叛妈妈亲人惨死，是，后来没有什么表情，你妈你舅惨死然后身边每个人物是人非她已经忧郁的了又不可以怀孩子!经历过的人才会明白，你说没表情，但是我都感激到她的喜怒哀乐，她哭我也想哭。其他角色都很好，全部人都让我觉得他们就是那个人，这些角色都存在的。怀恩很好呀! 就是没太多主角的撒糖但也是因为不是那样的剧。这是一个很大气很用心的制作。我非常明白每个人的抉择，我觉得有经历的人变会懂得一切。是，这剧不完美，但感觉到每个细节都经历了思考和诚意。很好。不舍得这个剧的终结。大部分英文的评论都是真心的喜欢和赞赏这个剧的。吐槽的人不要看了，不要糟蹋这个剧。

Perfect ending. Song was a shocker, you knew at the beginning he'd developed feeling for Awu, too bad he lost his wife and his life. I only wish they'd been able to keep the little prince out of the palace to grow up away from the politics and be free. But Xian Qi and Awu got their baby, the life they'd dreamed of.
The baby prince wasn't raised by Awu like she promised...but I guess it is better than Zitan? Only outcome I liked would be to have Awu rule with her Lord.
I’m glad Awu and XQ didn’t sign up to raise Jing’er. It would have kept them plugged into all the nonsense of capitol life. They would’ve been always looking over their shoulder.
This was one of the best Chinese dramas I have watched in a long time, with a good story and lots of great action scenes.. Zhang Ziyi was just marvelous as Awu; and this is the first time I have seen her in a series like this. I hope she does many more. This rest of the cast was outstanding as well, and I got a kick out of seeing some familiar faces from other Chinese dramas I have seen. I really liked Xiao Qi, even if he was a tad annoyingly perfect at times. He was just so strong, so brave, so skilled, so smart, so wise, so insightful, so cunning, so righteous, so noble, so loyal, and so caring, a veritable Chinese paladin. Although all of them did despicable things throughout the series, I still felt for Zitan, Helan Zhen, Song Huaien, and Su Jiner because all of them were undone by love. Cannot say the same for the Emperor, Empress, Dowager Empress, Prime Minister Wang Lin, and Second Prince, who were all unredeemable.
My only disagreement with what you said is second prince. His mother was innocent and killed. He grew up unloved and basically ignored. The woman he loved was taken from him to be the prime minister’s son’s wife. His whole life was sad.
I hardly ever reach the end of 16 or 20 episode dramas. The fact that I completed all 68 of Rebel Princess just proves how good it was. Amazing cast and story.
Awu was heartbroken over not having kids, now she has a flock.

This was a spectacular drama. The competition was fierce. We could tell because at this point, so many characters featured in the intro had died. 😭😂 I'm so glad Xiao Qi and Awu outlasted the schemers. After handling the chaos in the capital, more than once, they deserved to have a wonderful life. Xiao Qi and Awu will be so busy and happy basically raising a village. 💕💕

This is the best drama series I've watched in a long long time. The storyline, the acting, and the actions keep you glued to the tube and anxiously waiting for the next episode. The two stars were incomparable. The supporting cast is equally great. I was expecting a different ending. But all's well ends well. There's just one problem. It will be difficult to watch another drama series without comparing to this one. All others will be a let down.

Yes rush ending , not much interaction between our favourite Xiao Xi and Awu. Anyway the story is all about the princess , her life’s struggles and challenges .

i thought that after so many times Awu had to grieve the loss of her father (from repeated betrayals to departures to death) that another death would be impossible to pull off with such emotional punch. But when she dropped the formal word for "father" and replaced it with a more childlike equivalent for "daddy"... beautiful. Broke my heart! again. What a show!
Song Huai en, a character that we first loved then hated.... There is no justification for his crimes yet the end when he wants to go back and never come to capital again just makes me cry....... The capital and obsession for Awu corrupted him yet the moment he's dying it's as if death finally free of his obsession and he longs to be the loyal and carefree Song Huai en of the past......
This is the very first chinese drama I watched from beginning to end. It was such a beautiful journey. Seeing A'wu growing and becoming the incredible A'wu she is now made me come to tears;

I've seen a lot of Chinese costume dramas and this is up there with the best. Good storyline, acting and camera work. I am used to watching about 10 episodes of a Western drama and so it always amazes me that this drama can last 68 episodes and not be boring or weak anywhere.
Epic drama. I love The Rebel Princess from beginning to end. The plot twists and turns, connections, disconnections kept me waiting in anticipation for each and every episode. Kudos to the writers, actors, directors, all who had even a tiny part in this production. A BIG THANK YOU.

Love that: ‘Lord of Love’. Xiao Qi really always had a tender heart. I looooved him. Zhou Yi Wei added so much texture and range to XQ’s character. Truly Superb acting from him. And ZYW seems like a really beautiful person in real life, yet so different from his character which speaks to his acting ability. I love him.♥️🍓

@@stephaniegracecrown4286 Thanks for the recommendations. I have to admit, I'm trying to get a recommendation for the next drama to watch that is at least as good as Rebel Princess. What I'm gathering is that that's not likely just yet, or should I rethink that? ....That maturity piece is crucial. People had criticism about Zhang Zi Yi playing a 15 - 25? year-old. But it's her maturity, seasoned acting skills that allowed her to go from a pouty teenager to a maturing young woman who goes through a lot. She's in her early 40s and Zhou Yi Wei is in his late 30s in real life. I'm not sure how old his character was supposed to be but definitely older than Awu. It worked. Plus, if I was a bouncer in a club, I'd still card Zhang Zi Yi. :)

She 41 and he is 38 but she played a 16 yrs old very well.

Never been a Chinese costume drama. Only for Zhang ziyi. Accidentally discovered this sexy Zhou yiwei. Wow, good chemistry between the two. Long and unreal plot. But beautifully done. Happy ending, typical Chinese style! LOL. 💖😂

What an amazing ending! This is at its core a love story - between Awu and her family, Awu and her loyal servants, Awu and her country and the greatest love story of them all -between Awu and Xiao Ci. It was wonderful to see a deep abiding love between a loyal hero and a courageous princess portrayed in this series. Kudos and thanks to the writers, the director, the cinematographer , the actors and everyone for this unforgettable made for TV epic.

Congrats. First Chinese drama I will watch EVERY SINGLE episode. To me, it comes 2nd after 7 kingdoms (2010). This type of film is full of depth, didactic, deeply absorbing, and definately life changing. Lots of lessons to learn about life generally. Kudos to the Chinese people. Love from Lagos, Nigeria.

When Xiao Qi's holding Song Huain's dead body, him and General Tang Jing were both crying..what a heartbreaking scene!🥺
And again, feels like somebody squeezed my aching heart when Wang Lin and Awu are having conversation as father and daughter after so many misunderstandings between them. I cried with Awu when he die!
The last scene: Awu and Xiao Qi living happily and peacefully in the grassland made my heart alive and happy again. Soon, they will have their own little bundle of joy! They deserve this ending, after all what they've been through!

When I started to watch this drama I thought I can't finish this drama because it is too long but now I don't want to move from this drama.

First of all.. If ur hesistant to watch this like me at first.. Try to watch first.. Maybe at first if ur just a future viewer of ds drama... Ur not content for the cast.. But trust me i almost drop this to.. But i cant cause i was addicted to this beautiful and amazing drama❤❤❤ the plot,the cinematography, the costume and uniqueness of every cast ...
