Director Michel Franco talks to Maria Delgado, programmer at the 2020 BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express about his film, New Order (Nuevo Orden) in a Q&A that was originally presented after the 2020 London film festival screening of Franco's film.
Marianne’s wedding at a spectacular family home is besieged by a number of unexpected incidents: the registrar is late; social disturbances delay guests en route, and former employee Rolando turns up seeking a loan to get his wife urgent medical help. When Marianne attempts to aid Rolando, she finds herself caught up in a riot that rips through her wedding festivities with shocking consequences. Violent and nihilistic, rooted in superb performances and compelling in the defiant focus of its cinematic vision, this riveting drama is a fiercely angry work for our deeply fractious times.
