  • In her talk, Leanne will argue that striving for a perfect, skinny appearance is not the answer to obesity. Instead, the focus should be on functional fitness and incorporating exercise in our daily lives for all the benefits it brings, not just weight management.
Leanne Spencer is an entrepreneur, speaker and bestselling author. Born in Dorset, she spent 17 years working in the City of London before suffering burnout and leaving to establish her business and to follow her true purpose, which is to campaign for gender equality and the promotion of positive female role models for young people. Leanne now spends her time giving talks on the importance of positive female role models (“you can’t be it if you can’t see it”), and why we all need to change our attitudes towards food, fatness, fitness and most importantly, how we look.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Excellent talk highlighting the importance of keeping fit and healthy, as opposed to being obsessed with body image. Leanne emphasises that the focus should be on keeping one's body healthy and fit rather than striving for an unachievable body shape.

I have been on a fitness journey for years on end now. I just came to the realization today that, I used to press the 6mph button on the treadmill but now I run 6 miles in an hour on the track! Came a long way, and still further to go!

Brilliant talk thanks Leanne! Absolutely agree 100% Let's all focus on staying healthy and happy rather than skinny being the ideal. Love that work you're doing in shifting paradigms and your de-bunking myths. Keep it up!

Watching this was a good thing. I am trying to come to terms with the fact that I can be fit, but not look like I did at 30. Am I still obsessed with my body image? Oh yea, but I am "getting there" in regards to fitness.

Really great talk & so important (especially for the younger generation) - too many people are chasing physical perfection which is unachievable & is likely to end up in a very unhealthy lifestyle.

Actually I'd disagree. If you're on the athlean x program or just watching their CZcams videos, their tips can help you achieve physical perfection and stresses life long fulfilling nutrition without any repercussions whatsoever. It feels so good to be in this generation.

Exercise can help you feel energized and improve your sleep and overall well-being. we all face sleeping issues at some point but herbs can be really soothing at this time like brahmi, shankhpushpi which are available in planet ayurveda in capsule and tablet form.

Body shape and weight does not determine fitness, consistency to a routine makes you the fitness version of yourself. You could have genetics to carry extra fatty tisue but be able to do backflips and parkour at an expert level. Stop looking at the image of fitness and start looking the actual function of fitness.

This is a concept that will not meet well with Americans. For instance... We buy our cars on looks alone. This is why carmakers like GM and Cadillac are selling like hotcakes. Worst, most unreliable, on average, cars ever made in America came from those 2 companies, which are really the same company. Yet Americans slurp them up like a super sweet, sugarfied kale shake. [smh]
