    Good job man. The hard part is over. Now that she's yours, you get to part of a very special club of sailboat restorers who give sailboats a second life. All sailboats deserve this, but few get it. here is hoping she meets your requirements for full restoration and that you can get her on the wind sooner than later.

    Good on you boys. You will remember this time together as brothers for a long, long time. A tip, get her lifted, cleaned and anti fouled as early as possible. Check all through hull connections, valves and hoses, and bilge pumps /alarms asap. It's a boat, the most important thing is that it floats without a risk.

    Might want to get an official survey done on this vessel.. the amount of water damage on the sole/floor, walls, etc... and that rot around the mast, I'd hazard a guess that this ship was a salvage. Not impossible to restore, but this one may easily end up costing more to fix than buying a newer vessel in better condition.
    Either way best wishes to you both, and good luck with the project!

    As project boats go, I've seen worse. Just cleaning it up a bit you can probably double your money if you wanted to sell it; and if the engine works you could at least triple it. Make sure you find all the thru holes and open/close them to make sure they aren't seized. Best of luck!

    I like watching DIY projects with boats. Good luck and keep your spirits up. I’ll subscribe to watch your progress. Reread all the feedback so far, pay attention to a lot of the advice about assessing your boats safety and seaworthiness. Then plan your repairs for safety and affordability, and have fun. Major “restoration” is for later on. It’s a good sign to see your Dad is on board with it.

    When on dry land, please hit all copper/brass/lead/.. fittings where the boat discharges or inlet fittings from the inside of the boat with a hammer perpendicular to the side of the fitting, along the line of the hull. After that you will know how close you came, or not at all, of sinking the boat.

    • @michaell6580
      @michaell6580 Před 2 měsíci +2

      I'll add to immediately ID all thru hull fittings below waterline and including those 2 feet above waterline. Then secure a Wood bung, plastic sheet square of 1ft square, and a foam plug such as a mini nerf-like football or foam beach float. Then install a high water bilge alarm. I subscribed and look forward to your journey of discovery as you dig into this old girl.

    If you have two sets of 12 volt batteries, you can isolate them from each other and charge them on separate controllers. If their voltages are similar, you can connect both controllers on the same solar panels. Batteries don't like to be discharged. Cut back your draw during cloudy spells.
