- The Devil Made Me Do It was the 1990 debut album of militant Black nationalist rapper Paris. MTV banned the title track.
This album is considered a political rap classic and takes aim at the goverment, society, and drug dealers. - Hudba
ONE OF THE BEST RAP ALBUM OF ALLTIMES!!!
+sandro agus TRUTH!!
For me IT IS the best!
Word
Absolute 💯💯💯💯
I agree 100 percent; I still know every lyric word for word
Huge fan of Paris. He was ahead of his time and very underrated.
Word brother!!!
I remember I bought this tape.after seeing break the grip of shame!❤ The devil made me do it got banned from MTV. Only rep city showed the video. Only because it was truth.
this album is even more relevant today than ever...
You damn right about that, bro!
Gibt kaum ein besseres Debütalbum.....
I haven't heard this in almost 20 years and I still remember most of the lyrics...
Mark Vandalay likewise...
"When you buy a rap record do you buy it for dance moves? Or do you buy rap cause the lyrics are smooth?" --- Crazy how relevant that still is today.
True...
***** man the dancin disco/ravetweekrz
and Paris aint ment to disco, just another champ out the bay aria
Luke James Paris got the beats and intelligence you know that.
We spun this particular song many garage partys back in the 90's when ever it was a gig with white washed brothers and sisters in the midst of a jam.
Back in the days hiphop heads didnt f**k with RnB
This one should be in everyone's collection
100%
"Sleeping With The Enemy" would also be acceptable to me 🤙🏽 🕵️♀️
💯
Wish I still had this! Bought all of his albums on CD when I discovered him in the mid 2000s.

+Jess D h. i
Love you man
When this came out i was being raised in the nation of islam at the time. Paris became a immediate voice that i clung to. His influence on my view of America was unquestionable. He made me proud to be a blackman. He also helped me to realize my responsibility as a human being to my fellow man. Thank you P/Dog for giving rap a reason to be heard. And the man had flow!!!
Back when rap was mfkn rap, back when rap had a fkn message, back when rap had a fkn groove, back when rap taught you a thing or two you didn't learn in school, back when it was all about the art of hiphop, back when shit was REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mad respect for ya, P-dog!!!!!
I may be a white woman, but this album blew my f'n mind in the 90's living in S.F. and inspired me to read a whole lot of books on the oppression and violence against blacks in this country. This album opened my mind to a LOT! For me, it's right up the with P.E. who I saw in the 90's also. So friggin depressing that this album is still so relevant today and with the current racist in the white house filling his cabinet with white supremacists, god help people of color.Damn, this album should have one a grammy.
Buff love to u sister! Real
Why have I never heard of this? Flows like Rakim.
most knowledgeable and most underrated artist of all time.
Very underrated, Paris was, PE, Rakim and Big Daddy and don't forget X-Clan
+L Thomas2 AND ALSO THE INTELLIGENT HOODLUM LAKIM SHABBAZ 2BLACK 2 STRONG IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE.......CONSCIOUS RAP STILL ALIVE!!!HARDCORE WILL NEVER DIE!!!!PEACE!!
As a white dude that grew up in the 80’s/90’s and plays extreme metal to this day...this album fucking slays! It’s not about race, it’s about “class” meaning working class of all denominations and creeds. Let’s unite!
Crazy how he was only 20 years old when he came out with this
Everything about this album was the rawest shit I ever heard, drum programming, bass, lyrics. Easily in my top 20 all time!
+Drty Porcelain Scratches were on point too!
One of the greatest and most underrated Rap albums. This and the second Paris LP was a major part of my primary political education 20 years ago! And I am still rolling as a loyalist to NoI, Black Panthers and the Global struggle against neo-colonialism / /colonial matrix of power.
You sounds as bad as a klan member
Michael Souders Good night, son.
How's that working out for ya these days
This is one of the west coast pioneer's. They forget to mention. This brother had lyrics & dope production with his albums
Paris is from Detroit , Michigan. Not the west coast. He was banned after his hit BUSH-KILLA back when George Bush Sr. was the President.
Fourth Street Fair Detroit I remembered that they banned his album unless he change the album cover & took that song off of future pressings
Fourth Street Fair Detroit Paris is from the San Francisco! Detroit LMAO!!!
William McGee FRFR... SPEAKING THE TRUTH THOUGH. I CAN REMEMBER WHEN PARIS AND CUBE WERE THE MOST FEARED BLACK MEN IN THE GAME AT THAT TIME!
Eric Curtis Paris is dropping a new album and I can tell it's gonna be hot
HALL OF FAME ALBUM!!! and THEN some! This album CHANGED me.
N.W.A. + Public Enemy = Paris
classic album..
True, Paris even looks like a combination of Ice Cube and Chuck D
@@Third_Eye_Visionary187 czcams.com/video/95gP3m-uBHA/video.html He took a lot from Rakim
AGREED.
I hear more of Rakim + PE
@@Dymond_Y2K he sounds like Rakim but the subject matter is different, he's more along the lines of Public Enemy (Topics wise) gotta admit Rakim in a class of his own
CLASSIC POLITICAL RAP MASTERPIECE!
the intro gives me goosebumps
That funky drummer beat backwards...how in the Hell he think of that.. Sweet as fuck..
A very dope album that still bumps in 2018!
2023
I remember cruising to this album. Guerilla Funk is a great one too. One of the most socially conscious rappers ever in the game.
Forgot how amazing this album is; end to end it still holds up.
wat a dope mc paris is, a damn shame most folks don't know about him, black power to the fullest extent
BACK SOME NICE MEMORIES FROM THE 90's !!!!
Back when rap was rap.
187BURNZY rap was always out there , jus no radio play.
+187BURNZY TRUE THAT!!PEACE BRO AND LONG LIVE REAL HIP HOP!!!
is that u in that picture
Bought this when it "dropped" back in 1990. This and Scarface Groove are the hardest to this day. No autotune, no bling, nothing but next level lyricism and the vocals to assure proper.delivery. Paris has GOAT status in my book.
I think this album was made in 1989
@@Scientists_dont_lie "The Devil Made Me Do It was the 1990 debut album of militant Black nationalist rapper Paris."
1 of the most influential hip hop albums of all time, right up there with public enemy, ice cube,NWA, ICE-T,etc.underrated as an mc but lyrically blows most rappers out the water. kinda got sinister growl that is easy to listen to but definitely gets its point across in what his message is.been a fan for decades and still am a fan.
listened to this back in High school 92. Still to this day it's definitely one of my favorite's.
I loved this fucking Album!!!!I played this shit atleast 1000 times!!!!
Absolutely an underground gem! I bought this album as a 12 year old white boy at a record shop in Palo Alto, and I remember the dude who was manning the till couldn’t believe I was buying THIS album! 😆
Paris is one of my favorite rappers
I'm a 47 year old Black Man living in Alabama. l'm a big fan. Much love to the Black Panther of Hip hop!
I'm an 49 year old from England 🇬🇧, still bumpin' this over 30 years later!
Still sounds amazing. Thanks for putting it up
I cant believe it's 2022 and this is the first time I've heard this album 🤯
so mtv banned this but played NWA
They rather play a group that appeared to be violent for the wrong cause instead of a man who fought for a righteous cause
+Ajizzle Prodeje truth
mtv was fronting with that fake nwa negrow stuff,ha,ha,ha
......but NWA was banned from MTV.
yeah because if its aimed at the government, politics etc.. then it aint gettin played on mtv
when u try as much as possible to enjoy the moment , where you listen to every track for the first time in your life, bc u already know in ur heart this is one of the best hip hop albums ever made.
This truly is the real shit.
This album takes me back......
The boy was Chuck D Krs1 Rakim all in one! One of the best albums of the 90s! Sick scratching, dope rhymes phat beats! Dont make them like this anymore!!!
Definitely
You got right bro!
Rap music, for real.
I remember all the talented rappers back then. Paris came out sick with it. He dropped knowledge on an album you didn't want to skip to next song. So, What happened,
Eazy-E, NWA life style and message was more publicized.
makes me wonder, what if it was the other way around. how would our kids be now?
No disrespect to Eazy and others, but Paris had a positive message that would of made an impacte to get change started then, not barely starting now.
Peace out!
Just discovered this album! Great music!
fuckin' 30 years later, still dope, & more relevant now than ever.
That Flow!!!
This was one of the best albums out there at the time but the circulation was not there for this guy.
I started listening to this record when I was 17. By now I am 42 and writing an essay on the Black Panther Party. Already awed by the political context back when I was 17, it still has the same (or even bigger) effect on me now. Timeless record!
I'M 50 and i still remember when i heard this song and was in love.
@@KevinP32270 I hear you dude! Listened to his other albums lately also. Damn good stuff!
cheers4the upload Fam -real hip hop 4 real radicals - hold tight dance hall posse - let Paris kick it x
I remember buying this tape the same day it came out #classic
ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS I'VE EVER HEARD!!!!
Back when rap was all about beats and lyrics.
24:33 Still one of the best rap beast ever! I remember playing this as a kid loud in my room back in the day on my brothers 12" Cerwin Vega speakers.
In 90 I bought the album by tape for about $6.50 at the Navy Exchange.
Still one of the best hip hop CD's ever. Still goes as hard as it did in 1990. On the Prowl was my "getting ready to ball song" and it still is going on 30 yrs later.
Too many people sleeping on this album every brother sure be on this..
still one of the illest rap records ever cut, holds up strong
Damn I used to listen to this every day when I was a kid...crazy to find it on here
the best rap album I've heard
Still my favorite !!!!
Back when Rap was Dope.Dunno wth this sheeeet is today.
JUST PURE REAL RAP!!!!WORD EM UP P DOG!!!
devil made me do it was favorite freestyle dance battle jam back in Austin TX in early 90s
An album that gets better and better everytime you hear!
As a young rapper from NYC who wants to start a revolution for my Black folks, this dude makes me smile. I thought only Pac, NAs, KRS and few others wer eon it and as for a West Coast Rapper only thought Pac was about the panther movement, but Paris is pro panther and I wish he was in his youth in 2016 to get this revolution going lyrically and financially and emoitonally
Ajizzle Prodeje look up X-Clan, Kam, King Sun, Kid Frost he was more Chicano but a powerful message.
Kid frost was always a cool rapper to me but only heard 2 songs from him. I heard of Kam being a politician type of rapper but I know Kam as a crip from Watts who had beef with his cousin Ice Cube on his song Whoop Whoop but the other two I'm a look up
... Jeru the Damaja is another obscure smart talent like Paris, Look up Lakim Shabazz he's the master, K Rino also super sharp & deadly, and last but not least: Wise Intellegent from Poor Righteous Teachers, other honorable mentions: Intelligent Hoodlum, Ded Prez, United Front (very hardcore), there's much more that I can't think of now...
@@ericdravennevermore2566 PRTs drop science good call
If anybody out there has friends or family members that listen to Keef or Drake or Wiz Khalifa or some weak crap like that, PLEASE, for the sake of the Black nation, make them check out Paris.
mano a mano INDEED!!!
Remy Reigns
Think I saw your brother Roman on t.v. the other night. -stay positive, Queen.
mano a mano fuck yes. even if u ain't black
Rap comes in many styles and different lyrics and forms of storytelling, just because Drake or Khalifa have different lyrical styles and are not political like Paris doesn't mean we shouldn't support and buy are other Black Brothers Music, who are trying to come up in this white mans times and trying to keep this style of music alive, we should be supporting all types of Rap Music, before the people in power stop supporting it and playing it.
@@lakerstekkenn I ain't buying tunes cos the mc is purple how tarded u fink hip hop fanatics are? Now I gonna buy white female trash music just to piss u off! Dale Lee made me do it! LOL
Top 10 in my rap vinyl longplayer. Peace 4 the world
Underappreciated, it's good the internet exist so this can live on. Production is good, rapping is good the message is great.
Should be one million views.
I love this record. I used to listen it every day after school.
paris one of the most underrated brothers in hip hop history .my nigga was deep with the truth word!! puerto rican frankie says it's time for the revolution!
underated af
Not really. He WAS big years ago, but his labels hated him and he sort of got forgotten. Even the modern underground heads skip over him. Its weird that dudes who were once big get forgotten by the new generation, even the ones who really dig into it.
fonkymaster Yeah he was large.I was in NY then and he was the only bay artist that got any love period. I wet to show where he opened for P.E in 91 or 92 it was sick..
Thanks for uploading. Used to play this a lot back in the day. Listened to entire cd this afternoon. Content is still relevant. Beats still bumping.
Listening to this since it was released in the 90s and has never lost its relevance and potency...
DJ MADD was a BEAST BTW!!!!
Totally agree, love his work on bush killa. Did he ever put any solo work out?
Werd
Paris and a hundred other great rappers including Public Enemy, E-40, Kool G Rap and Royce Da 5'9" gave out their rapping secrets in the *HOW TO RAP* book series. "Keeping Hip Hop Real."
This one will alway's be relevant. Shit will never change. Still have not Heard anything that compares since it came out. Lyrics and those Beats. Respect
Its not just what he says, it's how he says it, the tone, rawness. One great song after another!
great stuff....had it on vinyl
. scratches on this album were sick
Yeah heatwave sample showed Paris as an big balla in the rap world fo-life! From Flint,Mi!
Simply the BEST Rap when I was 16! Listened to the tape at least 200 times!! And got the original LP - thanx, PARIS!!
DAYUM, I HEAR THIS AND INSTANTLY THINK "WHERE THE HELL DID REAL RAP GO?"
I ALWAYS LOVE SOUNDS AND THE LYRICS.........
“I Call Him Mad” is the dopest flip of “Funky Drummer”
My favorite cut on this is Shame on a brother. That militant beat is tight!
Paris brings the truth strong album peace✌🏿
Always will be a classic i learned more about society and our history from hiphop like this in the 80 s
this hiphop is just awesome. never heard anything like it at the time.
This was the shit growing up!!!!! Holds even more wieght now, i swear HIP-Hop been warning us about these times where in. And all this Police BS and Racist ass shit was happening way before HIP-Hop was born SMH.. Salute to the real ones Head Up Eyes and Ears OPEN!!!
The homothug pop rap put many to sleep for sure.
couldn't have said it any better.this is real hip hop that's saying something and letting the know what's really going on instead of that same ol' wack party music that gets played on a regular.if you like this I suggest his current album PISTOL POLITICS. bringing the message while keeping it funky. peace
If we want to see how bad it really is among the masses. Look at all these clips of our people fighting and beating each other in the streets of this country.Large numbers have been dumbed down and ghettoized from listening and being over exposed to this commercial,,sell-out wack rap music being promoted daily as normal music.
Darryl Slaughter couldn't agree more . though there are some artists that that bring the message still .just gotta look for them ((PARIS,IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE,SCARFACE,)just to name a few.there still out there .
This is the bomb, but I guess Paris never gets mentioned in rap history 'cause in this album he practically disses every other rapper from Bambaataa to LL Cool J to NWA. Guess he wasn't friend with too many people at the time.
I am proud to say that I still have this on tape
right now this is the truth coming to light again .
I gave this CD to Dj Babu w some old school vinyl when were in "High" school. TEAM BUCK! 1991
forgot how damn good this album is!!! sick scratching on this!! remember banging the shizz outta this 24/7 in 1990!!! my neighbours hated me lol Love the PE influence throughout it!!! Dont make them like this anymore!!!
I had never heard of Paris until I watched the Hip Hop documentary on Netflix. I thought I was lit back in the day but I guess not!! This dude is amazing.
I have this on vinyl from back in the day
masterpiece
had this on tape cassette back in the early 90's.
His flow is hard & smooth at the same time. Lookin at the number of views, I see most people must be sleepin on this!
We need this today!!!
