I am indian, and this question is for indians who pissed off and giving wrong comments, this is based on true story so they are showing what really the story is, not showing poor india. What they do if that guy who lost was not billionaire but poor, and this is the bitter truth about our country. When indian dramas and cinema shows huge mansions and rich families then you say why they are always rich in films, and when someone show you the truth, you get pissed. We are poor and rich, we are educated and uneducated, we are perfect and imperfect, but in our heart we are indians, and proud to be an indian, and we always praise if something is good, never say bad words.

Right. The guy's parents in real life were poor. Do these guys want directors to go back in time and make them rich.

I have legitimately never cried so much watching a movie. From the beginning to the end. This movie nearly mirrored my childhood except the running away from child capturues. I was born in Romania is the 90's where there was a huge percentage of unwanted children in train stations. I live there until I was 5 and was brought in a car to a children home where I was that year adopted to a Irish family which was unusual because I a lot of parents wanted newborns. I didn't know any English, and was literally starting to learn about escalators in airports, televisions, etc. I integrated very well the first year and was very excited about the whole thing. My sister who was also adopted from Russia two years later found it very hard the first years but is now fine. And I also graduated from a degree in Bachelor of Honours in Hotel Management which completely surprised me with similarly to the film. The reason why I feel so passionate is because this movie portrayed an essence of stories that are not being told enough. The cast was absolutely phenomenal and the movie was heart wrenching. Probably nobody is going to read all of this because it's like a thesis lol. Kudos to everyone in this film!!!

I was born in Romania as well and i was also adopted. Now i live in italy and, even if i don't remember anithing, i cried because last summer i came back to my home town looking for my biological mother (unsuccesfuly) like Saroo.
During the movie, i relived all emotions that i had when i was there and i couldn't stop thinking about this.
i think that this movie it's really emotional and done right, but i think it can really be understood by people who had been adopted and would like to meet their biological parents.
( wich part of Romania do you come from?)

I'm adopted and found my birth family later in life. The movie does a good job of showing the the good and bad of being adopted, and the guilt of even looking for your real family. What moved me most was at the end realizing the time that elapsed would be different for his birth mother and him. For her, 20 years would seem like yesterday, for him a lifetime.

Sorry, Prakhar, but that's just bs. Oh, he's with you. I've lost my beloved one and trust me - she's not with me, that's the whole problem of death. I can remember her, but she's gone. And when she lived she told a lot about dealing with people who lost somebody close, as she lost her mother early. Like "don't say it will be alright, because it won't be alright" or "don't say that person is in heart because it's not how people feel". When she died somebody from my family tried to cheer me up this way. I got mad, I didn't talk for her for two years and then she said sorry, because she lost her brother and she understood it doesn't help at all. And trust me, I preferred her to be ignorant about this than to feel this feeling. Generally it's a hard topic, but never ever say things that aren't true. That makes people feel worse, misunderstood and some of them are on the verge of suicide, so it may end very badly.

Dev Patel was outstanding in this movie. So was the little boy who played the young Sahroo. He was AMAZING! I completely felt his pain. I just wanted to pull him through the screen and hug and love on him. The ache as a mother to see that baby lost and fighting to stay alive, to being adopted and to see him thrive as a young man but still feeling a part of his life missing. I cried in agony and I cried for joy. Nicole Kidman was wonderful as the mother. I've watched this movie over and over. It's a must see for me.

I was very lucky i came across this extremely kind family that brought me to their home, they fed me and called the police to get help. i was in the safety of their house playing with their children until cops arrived. the family were investigating until they made sure i was returned back to my own family. it only took about few hours and i was reunited with my parents and siblings.
with all the support i had i was still terrified to my teeth and bones. i cant imagine what Soroo had gone through 😖😭 poor little child but a really smart one 💛 thank you for going back trying to find your sweet mother

the real name of the character which Dev is playing was "Sheru Munshi Khan" Sheru or sher is called "lion" in English and he wasn't from Calcutta but Madhya Pradesh where he used live with his brother and mother after being left by his father. The train in which he slept took him to Hawra In Calcutta which is why he thinks his hometown to be Calcutta. His brother was found dead on railway tracks and her mother looked for him everywhere but couldn't find him. He lived in a children's home in Calcutta before being adopted by an Australian couple and moved to Australia. There he soon learned English and forgot hindi. This is why this movie's name is Lion according to me as the main character's real name was "Sheru" which means lion in hindi.

That because the West will only give him roles of Indians pains or black pain, did you see how mad they got at the suggestion of Idris Elba as James Bond or a black Dr who? Yeah, he not going to be playing father Christmas anytime soon. Atleast in the white Western movie industry. Huh?

Dylan Lollar I get that but, why not star in something other than a drama where he needn't require to be "Indian guy". It's generally what's he is in. Would rather see him now in some horror or action or something.

Saroo was one of the lucky ones. It was beautiful that their adopted family took him in. Very touching. With the reunion of the biological mum, saroo and adopted mum at the end. Powerful and touching.

I just found out what happened to his brother Guddu. His mother said that Guddu's body was found one month after her two sons went missing that same night (his body was found on the train track). They never found out how he died, his arm was broken & one of his eyes was missing (maybe someone pushed him & he fell?). So Guddu could have died before Sorroo even woke up on the bench, that might explain why Guddu never came back to get him or Guddu was busy looking for his little brother and got hit by a train? so the mother has lost two sons that night.

Annie W yes another possibility how he got hit by the train was he was getting off the track just it was too late and he was hit by a train. I thought of this because I also read A Long Way Home and Saroo says that when h went back to India he saw the trains come into the stations really fast and so thought maybe it hit Guddu while he was on the track and it was to late.

Annie W It's literally written at the end of the film that Guddu was hit by a train the same night he told saroo to wait for him. No need to speculate y'all.

I've never heard of this story/ movie until ray william johnson showed it on his video. But now I'm so scared to watch it because I know I'm going to cry. This Biopic Movie will get me emotional all over gain like it was when I first watched The Green Mile in 2021. I better bring tissues watching this indeed.
