For the people in the comments, no, this is not the final run of N&W 611 altogether, it's the final run for 611 at Strasburg for a while. 611 was restored back in 2015, so it still has 7 more years to pull excursions before her next 1472 inspection and overhaul. As of now, 611 will likely do events at the Virginia Museum of Transportation until she gets the greenlight to operate on other railroads throughout the East, South, and Midwest.
611 (I believe) just had the 1472 done at Strasburg, so it should be good to go for a while
Will she come through St. Louis like 765 did in 2012?
her boiler ticket doesn't expire until 2030 apparently
Yea. But she’s rapidly approaching her 1472 hot days. And VMTs too busy wasting money on rickety clapped out, non-compliant passengers cars, that was earmarked for 611s maintenance.
@@timl6039 ah
@@timl6039 Unless it was some other kind of inspection, the 1472 was done last year. It was out of service for about a year until Nov 2022. It's good to run for years now.
You still only get 1472 “Hot days” (when the locomotive is fired, and operating at anything above normal atmospheric pressure) before the flues have to be removed, inspected, and the boiler under goes an Ultrasound inspection. And to my knowledge, Strasburg, hasn’t done and flue work on it.
@@timl6039 #611 has pretty much been locked off the mainline by Norfolk Southern, so you can’t 100% blame VMT for that.
Little fun fact it was restored at Spencer's shops in North Carolina
yess!! i saw it being restored! glorious sight!
Just missed her
I believe it only took one year!
My dad actually assisted with getting the champion and crescent engines take there, he’s a conductor for Amtrak and it was a pretty cool sight to see an Amtrak engine pulling two pieces of history down to Spencer
Hopefully Norfolk Southern can keep this engine still running. I wouldn't even be shocked if Union Pacific added this locomotive to their roster since they have 844, 4449, 4014, and now 3985.
No? Union Pacific doesn't own 4449, it's owned by the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland, Oregon, it's just the railroad lets the locomotive run on their rails for special excursions sometimes. 3985 isn't owned by the Union Pacific anymore because they gave the locomotive to the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America in Silvis, Illinois to be restored. Also, N&W 611 most likely won't operate on the Union Pacific outside of the Midwest IF it ever happens at all, because if it's beyond the Midwest it would be too far from it's home and home territory.
@@regularguy7266 Union Pacific has used the locomotive multiple times with 844, and have purchased the Railway that used 4449. There's also been more footage of 4449 running on the same exact line as Union Pacific trains. They practically use it more than Oregon. Not to mention that 3985 might have been donated, it still very clearly has Union Pacific on its tender, and even then, it still served Union Pacific, so it will always be part of the Railway it originally worked for. Regardless if it was scrapped and demolished. I also know that 611 most likely wouldn't operate with Union Pacific, I said I wouldn't be surprised by it. That doesn't necessarily mean it's going to work with Union Pacific for sure.
@Carter James yeah, but ownership of 4449 was made decades before the Southern Pacific merged into the Union Pacific, when the railroad sold it to Oaks Amusement Park. Of course then it was transferred to The American Freedom Train Foundation before being in the hands of the Friends of 4449, who have since been the caretakers of the 4449, and is now a part of the Oregon Rail Heritage Center. The Union Pacific from what I know never leased the locomotive in the preservation era, except MAYBE (key word) when the 4449 and 844 doubleheaded in the late 2000s. If 4449 was using UP rails, it was because the Friends wanted to do a ferry runs, tours, excursions, whatever, on their trackage, so 4449 isn't officially a part of the UP Steam Program. If so it would've been pulling mainline excursions much more frequently than she is now. In terms of 3985, just because the locomotive is of the UP Railroads Heritage, doesn't mean it is owned by the railroad. Look at UP 618 for example. Right now 3985 isn't apart of the steam program because it hasn't operated in years and we don't know how frequently UP will let the RRHMA run it on their rails once restored. Either way, 4449 and 3985 are both currently not on the UP roster.
#611 isn’t owned or operated by Norfolk Southern.
The museum owns 611
You know what a Ford edsel is??? Wow im proud of you!
I really like your videos. When I was 5 years old we went to pick up my (now grandpa). He got off a big old black train, all black carriages. When I was little I loved trains so much. I was so excited. The engineer or conductor. Not sure who. Saw me and showed me around the front and when we were leaving. He gave me a classic blue and white conductor hat. Then he pulled out his pocket watch, unclipped from his inside pocket and put it in my hand. It has a steam locomotive engraved on the inside when you open it up. One of my favorite things I have. What a cool guy. Wish I knew who that was. Literally was a pivotal moment in my upbringing. Was 2005. Tomah WI. I wonder if there are logs or something
My younger ass thought 4449 and 611 were sisters 💀💀🗿🗿
Stoobid child
Bruh…
Arent all trains technically Brothers and sisters?
@@DubmareProductions634 no if they are made by the same company then yes
@@kadedoesanimation Like 4000 and 4014 are related.
611 no.....she can't end here not like this :< God bless you 611 May the freedom train run with you
I need my dose of train history content, and you fill that niche. Thanks Benny :)
I remember my grandfather took me on one of the excursions made by the 611 about 7 or so years ago. It’s the locomotive that really sparked my interest in the railroad world. It hold a special place in my heart as I’m from Roanoke (where it was built) and it’s currently held at the VA museum of transport in Roanoke!
Gonna be the ackchyually guy and let you know that the 611's 20th century excursion career started in 1982 with the initial restoration and ran until 1994. After 20 years of being cold, it was restored at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in 2014 and part of 2015, and has been running since.
Thank you for mentioning that the excursions began in 1982 -- I and a pal fr BrooklynNY took one of its runs, a daytrip from Alexandria VA to Charlottesville VA and return, either that summer or the summer of 1983.
I remember going to see 611 at Strasbourg. The ride was fun.
This is the most beautiful engine ever made!!
Shoutout to the Edsel 👌🏽I see you’re a man of class 🤣 we have a ‘58 Sedan. Beautiful cars.
She has to be the luckiest gem in locomotive history.
I honestly think it's one of the most beautifull steam loco's out there...
For real I've been on that train many times can't believe that they would take it out of service 😊
Subbed for this sick steam content
When 611 went to Strasberg a couple years back it ran through my backyard while being helped by some NS locomotives (the track was originally owned by Reading RR)
I'm actually riding the 611 as I'm writing this comment! And I brought a model N&W J-Class locomotive with me!
"I am the thoroughbred of steam, born to run, born to be free. Forgive them, Lord for they know not what they do!"
- written on the cab of #611, the queen of steam
The museum is a couple miles from my house, I'ma have to check it out. For those wondering, yes they regularly run their locomotives, yes my diesel truck runs more coal.
The good news is the Virginia Museum of Transportation has partnered with the Virginia Scenic Railroad for 611 excursions on the Buckingham Branch short line railroad out of Goshen, VA in the Fall of this year.
love your channel man, i would have liked it even more when I was a kid
Bring back these parts of our history.
I’m getting tickets to her run on the Buckingham Branch!
I remember going on this in Oregon.
She back on home rails WELCOME HOME 611
Brother it a look like a WP CLASS steam engine in India 🇮🇳 😊
Hope they keep her around, I’ve got a model of her and it’s beautiful
That Passby at 0:06 Is Nice!
Been on it. Awesome loco.
Edsel!
Ford Edsel!
These are beautiful
this thing is a tank with how many comebacks it had bro
We need to go back to steam. They might not be as fast, but they're more environmentally friendly if run correctly, and the undisputed gigachads as far as torque goes
Steam trains, especially the latter ones, were actually known to hit speeds now unheard of, even in modern passenger service. Deteriorating infrastructure and poor planning of right of ways in the 1900’s is usually to blame though.
@@Bennyboi_ think about it though, we could burn trash in sealed fireboxes and then recycle the ash as fertilizer and other things
@@heavilyarmedhippie75 That’s actually a great idea. There would be a lot to figure out with what kind of trash would be safe to burn, and of course steam wouldn’t be allowed to go near cities again.
@@Bennyboi_ if you could effectively seal the firebox so that nothing escapes except clean steam, that won't be an issue. That way, anything potentially harmful is just ash that gets cleaned out at a maintenance yard. Never mind that diesels catch fire aand pollute way more
I love its whistle soooo much!
Don't forget about me.....I carried the steam program 😎
I was there yesterday
I like top recording extremely good
That thing was sleeeeek pretty
The Queen of Steam
Interesting that 1992 may have been the last time a passenger train ran on the Saluda Grade.
Recently road the Strasberg rail road….give it a go….😅
Hey I live near Strasburg
Not this being my favorite childhood trip
I wish her brother 1218 could get restored too, but thats probably unlikely...
First locomotive I got to see irl. 👍
You guys forgot the Black Diamond which was the one as to the fastest locomotives it was ever built for passenger trains.
We should have kept it in Lancaster as she had a better home here.
The Lillie Belle from Disney was at strasburg rr in 2010
I was here today!
rode an excursion behind her in the later 80s
Yes, it's terribly obsolete and inefficient.
But what a beautiful machine 😊
A train retired in my village too
The "a" in Strasburg is like in apple
Thanks for reupload this!
Clinchfield 311: Oh look, it's my sister.
Woah❤
beautiful design.
Bro I’m literally a 20 minute drive from this place… I went on a train there idk which one tho
Final run? Why?
Leaving Strasburg for other excursions.
@@Bennyboi_Jesus, by final I was worried she was getting stuffed and mounted.
@@Bennyboi_i thought she was getting scrapped- thank goodness shes not i hope. Not.
Will she still be running afterwards or just static display?
nice!
611 boiler looks like a glizzy (sausage) lol
The only time I saw 611 was on September 10th 2021
It has a face and when I saw Said face I learned the train is tired of its job
Hey, I've been there before
It’s near my jewelry store in Pa
Can you do pere Marquette
Man if only she was delayed for one more month then I would actually get to see her but nope my life has to suck
guess we have to start a go fund me
Wonder how her running gear is
I Actually Got To Sit In Its Cab, When It Was In Strasburg.
I thought it was Big Boy 4014
I thought excursions started in 1983 or 1984.
611 is stronger than every diesel in use and the Big Boy is even more powerful than 611
Long live steam
Wasn’t this the mother fucking train from that safety animation made in the 50s? I swear it is!
it fought elmo.
Oh god I forgot to mention that lol. All that history, all that luck, and it all led to an Elmo plushie being thrown at it.
Should maker her new american freedom train for anniversary
Isn't that a duplex?
When is she done running?
When is the final run??
he has 2 videos on this but he never answers the question
The 611 finished her final tour before heading back to Roanoke, VA.
Memorial Day May 29 was the last day. From what I heard, June 8 is the day it's leaving Strasburg for Roanoke if you want to see it move for the final time on Strasburg tracks.
Is it gonna be Scrapped
611 be like: 😐
Rode behind her in 2017
R.I.P.
Where is it going after?
Back to Roanoke VA
