Oh my goodness some of these comments crack me up. You guys can't be serious with the "new" vs "old" Imagine Dragons comments..or the "They've gone mainstream" comments...They've released one album..There is no "old" Imagine Dragons yet and this song fits in with their style perfectly. It sounds just like
them, which is a mainstream sound. They have catchy tunes, I love them, but ya'll are F'n silly. They've always been mainstream. Their first album was a massive hit, everyone friggin likes them; mainstream.
Siks Wifey People are comparing new versus old because Imagine Dragons has/have been around since, technically, 2008. That's six years sweetheart (Haymitch voice there okay bye). In that time they've released more that 35 songs, 4 plus EPs, many singles, and one-and-almost-two albums. Their first song wasn't Radioactive; they spent years building up to it with songs like All Eyes and Emma. People are just saying that their old style was more indie than their new style.
{Also, side-note, not everybody likes them.}
However, I do agree that they're "mainstream" now.
Actually, they've been around for quite a while and haven't "always" been mainstream. I knew of them long before they were that "massive hit" when they were an opening band for one that was very indie but broke up about a year before ID took Night Visions "mainstream". When I finally got to see them live in 2012, it was at a tiny little place that held maybe 75 people max. A year later I tried to get a ticket to their show at a venue that holds close to 3K people and couldn't get a ticket to save my life as they'd sold out in presale in less than an hour.
That all being said, I quite like this new tune! Can't wait for a full album!
35 songs? Six years? You've got to be kidding me. Like I said, they aren't an old band. Their sound has been consistent. It's nothing like the difference between garage days Metallica and the black album (for ONE instance). Every band starts somewhere but rising from freshcuts to mega stardome in 6 years does not an old band make. Of you're known worldwide in less than 5 years, you're mainstream. It's not a bad thing.

Ever since Night Visions, I've been loving Imagine Dragons and last year I had the opportunity to go to one of their concerts. It was absolutely incredible. I really like this new song and I'm so excited for their second album to come out! Hopefully they go on another tour, because I would love to see them play live again.

Don't know why, but I feel that is not Imagine Dragons the way they were before. And The Lumineers is a perfect band. Their melody and lyrics are extremely beautiful, they sound different from the other bands, they're unique. And this song is not compared to their songs. Trust me.

For those who think they got mainstream..this song is just like folk music, what they've been making since they established the band..I don't know if you remember "Rocks" or "Clouds" or "Destination" maybe "Thirty lives" and "It's Time" could be a great example for that Imagine Dragons who started this beautiful fame that they have now..but yeah, many "NEW" fans cannot appreciate the band itself because they always expect some kind of similarity to Radioactive and to Demons..but folks, THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, PURE IMAGINE DRAGONS!

Seriously, Night Visions blew me away. I remember the joy I felt buying this at my music shop. That music shop has disbanded and that caused me great internal pain. I have a lot of great memories there, bought many great albums. I remember listening to this track and I couldn’t tell you how I felt. Night Visions is one of my favorite albums, ever. I love when they release new music because it’s consistently good. Thunder, this, bad liar, etc. please keep making music!

I hate this whole 'new' and 'old' imagine dragons thing. This is their sound. Personally, I was relieved when I heard this song because I felt as if with recent movie soundtrack songs etc. (Battle Cry, Warriors...) they were changing their sound but this song stays true to Night Visions.
I think flexibility is one of those things about ID that I love the most. They can do all these epic songs, and yet they remain true to their sound. Agh, they're amaziiiing :3
I still think Battle Cry and Warriors were still great though (even though I thought Battle cry needed another verse). The reason why they sound different is because they are more focused on hard rock instead of regular rock (What else do you expect from a song that was made for a transformers movie).

Please someone explain to me why so many people are saying that they are such "old" fans and that this song isnt as good as their "old" stuff? Imagine Dragons has been around since 2008. That is 6 years ago. Count them. 6 years ago is nothing. People are making this band sound like they have been together since pre 2000, like Train, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or any other big band that came out in the 90's. Imagine Dragons is still a "new" band compared to the great bands of music, such as The Beatles, Rolling Stone, The Eagles, Prince, or the other famous bands of all time . So for all the people out there saying that people who like this song only like it because they dont know how they used to sound, shut the fuck up. Who cares, seriously. Everyone here is here to listen to an amazing band play another great song.
One last thing if you have known Imagine Dragons since they released their first EP, congrats for you, you have known an amazing band since the beginning and i wish i found out about them back then, but dont go bragging around that you are so much better than everyone who just found them when Night Visions released because that was their first commercial success, so of course a crap ton of people will find out about them from that. You are not better than anyone who just found out about them. I somewhat understand where they're coming from but it's obnoxious and pretentious. I feel like they mention those things because: 1: Everyone else is talking about it. 2: They miss the originality of Imagine Dragons. or 3: They're just copying everyone else.
I personally, feel like they could have done so much more with this song. It sounds so much like other songs that it gets people thinking about the band. How they used to do things completely different from the rest and didn't follow trends (the general style/sound is trending and is a bit generic at this point). While, yes, it is their own take on common trend, it's just hard to be original when so many others have done it before. It all goes back to the core of the band, which is their originality and diversity. While, yes it's diverse (for them) it's unoriginal and reminds people of what the band was. How they would do things that not many other bands were doing. How they had a very distinct sound while still being extremely diverse.
I feel like they were just disappointed but it might just be me. Also, a lot of people were just hating on chart top listeners (people that only listen to their ms songs) but subconsciously were guided to mention their EPs or being an "older fan," but that strayed away from their main point.

If you look at The Beatles they went through multiple different phases of music that all sounded different and people still loved them and their songs. Granted they were the Beatles, but most bands do the same thing. And if you read interviews by Imagine Dragons they said they wanted to make music that sounded different than what was on Night Visions, so thats what they did. This is history in the making. Bringing up old roots from past genres of songs from all of our ancestors is so original and I really dig it.
I feel bad for musical artists. If they don't change up their sound fans complain every song sounds the same but when they do try a new sound fans complain it doesn't sound like their old material. The thing I like about this song is that it's actually meaningful. I wish most pop songs nowdays weren't losing their meaning
I loved them ever since Night Visions and I still love them now. Yes, their sound has changed but every band's sound changes after a while. I still think it's freaking incredible and it still has their personal touch. This band's music defines me and I will always support them. Can't wait for the next album

While not the type of music I listen to, their thoughtful lyrics (vs sampled) and originality are very impressive. Such a refreshing change of pace to hear music that's not full of sampled and pilfered sampled rifts. Wonderful group and very talented. Much respect.

i'm in love with EVERYTHING imagine dragons put out and this is no exception. i love their music, i love their voices, i love their talent. i remember i saw them in atlantic city and it was only a couple hundred of people, now they're playing stadiums with tens of thousands of people. i am so proud of what they have done in a few short years!!! the first album was fantastic and i feel this album will be just as good!! :)

i just saw people say that it's not good enough, like the older songs of them are better, or dislike a lot... It's a new one of them and there are already haters, or unsatisfied people, but guys, just open your mind... they can't do the same songs all the time, night visions was perfect, but they use new style, kind of new beats, but it's close of what they have done before. (my opinion) this song is great, I love it, and I am not disappointed, I am pretty sure that "i bet my life" is the start of a new album which seems very amazing

I've gotta say, I think this might be their best song yet. I wasn't sure about the screaming chorus at first, but I love it now. Also, I love the odd backing vocals and "The Darkness"esque guitar at the end. Class.

To all of you saying the song sound too different, or 'new'... You obviously don't know imagine dragons. If you compare even the songs from their old album (ex: radioactive to on top of the world) you'll know that while many of their songs have a similar sound, a lot are different. They like to have variety which is a good thing, and maybe why they have so many fans (they appeal to different groups). Some of their songs are slow, some fast, some happy, some sad. That's how they do it so in that sense, 'I bet my life' isn't all-new and completely unexpected, just different. Besides, how can you guys tell that the entire album will be 'different' after only hearing one song?
This song was actually better then I expected. It's good for them to add another upbeat song to their collection. I do, however, hope they include more slow and depressing type songs again like 'bleeding out' or 'hear me'. I love the songs that deal with Dan's previous (or current?) depression and anxiety. I feel he puts a lot of emotion in them.

Seriously, you guys never cease to amaze me. Everyone in the music industry has the SAME sound and same style 100% of the time, but you guys mix it up! You incorporate different style, different genres and appeal to all kinds of people. Every song is unique and has a different sound. And your words actually mean something!! It's never been about fitting a perfect mold of what people expect from the genre of rock... it's just about the music and reaching out to people through it with true talent. pop music stands for popular music. was this song meant to appeal to a wide audience? yes, it's evident from the hooks, the simple structure, and a contrasting chorus. is this rock? yes. but pop music has also absorbed the rock genre for years.
