Hi, I'm the author who created the very first incarnation of this mod, called "Smod Remastered", with some help from Onemanshow. Then Onemanshow created his own version "Smod Remastered Redux", & then future versions were just called Smod Redux.
Last year I started working on a new version of Smod Remastered. But I discovered a game-crashing bug. I then tested several versions of Smod Redux, Smod Tactical etc (old versions & latest updated versions) and they all had the same bug. The game would seem to work fine until I got killed by something. Then once the game reloaded the most recent save, when I next passed through a map transition the game would crash. Which meant the only way to play through the game was to either turn God Mode on so that dying was impossible, or to load the next map using console commands, or to quit the game whenever I died, and then launch the game again and load the most recent save. (The save itself doesn't get corrupted, for some reason ot is the act of dying and then loading a save that messes up the game's ability to handle map transitions.)
A number of other people have reported the same problem, but Onemanshow himself has not encountered this same crashing bug, & doesn't know what might cause it. If anyone figures it out, please let us know!
EDIT: So bizarrely, I'm now no longer encountering this bug! At first I thought maybe the problem only happened when using "SMOD Standalone" to play SMOD mods, as I tried playing "SMOD 40a Piped! (2013)" and the latest version of "SMOD Redux - Final" and didn't have the bug in either. But then I tried using SMOD Standalone again, and the bug didn't happen there either! Very odd situation. I did recently roll back my nvidia graphics drivers to a version a few years old, and I haven't re-updated them since. I'd be very surprised if an official update to the NVIDIA graphics card drivers was what caused the crash-on-map-transition bug in an old HL2 mod, but that's the only thing that seems different. *shrug*
Anyway, I recommend that everyone play some version of SMOD, especially SMOD Redux - Final. Hopefully you won't be one of the few unlucky people to encounter this inexplicable bug.
Why don't you code in a crash.dmp debug to show you what causes the crash?
Could be related that hl2 changed twice the game engine and had many major updates, which changed the game mechanics and offsets over the last year's. It's possible you still compile your mod for a older version.
Hmm have you tried running it via Smod Standalone or anything?

The weird thing though is that modern SMOD releases like SMOD Redux and SMOD Standalone tell the game to use the code and engine from the old legacy "Source SDK Base 2006" tools instead of the current version of HL2, to solve those incompatibilities. 15 years ago, before those engine updates, SMOD used the original HL2 engine and code and didn't have this crashing bug. And the Source SDK Base 2006 supposedly uses that old engine and code, so it should work the same as an old copy of HL2 from 2006, but apparently it doesn't, there's something not quite right.

Not really, looks like it doesn't let you massacre NPCs or play as a combine. This is more like Half-Life: FEAR of the Dark Messiah.

You can't combine sourcemods like that. It wouldn't be possible.

I remember about a decade ago there were several SMOD offshoots available: SMOD Sci Fi, SMOD Outbreak, and SMOD Tactical. SMOD Tactical in particular was one I was especially enthralled with, unfortunately Valve updated the engine and the dev had to scrap the upcoming version which was a real tragedy for me. The update fucked up compatibility with most of the other SMODs as well but fortunately there's a third party launcher that allows them to be played by playing them on a pre-update version of Half Life 2.
Smod tactical was my favourite, too. Just a lot of fun.

Half Life 2 modding was the peak. From fun shit like this to the edgy try hard mods. They were simpler, better times
And not to forget classics like GMod, HL2DM, RnL. Although DM and GMod were standalone games, they still were awesome derivatives of HL2, and hell they had great customization of their own. I remember HL2DM playing those Co-Op servers with antlion zombie etc etc NPCs, and GMod in golden age of serious RPs, genuinely good DarkRPs that weren't owned by 12 year olds, and Vietnam War servers.
Instead of buying new games you'd just look for mods to try out lol

Gordon’s kick is fantastic, and if you spam it long enough without letting it finish, you can make a Combine energy ball, and kick it again to launch it. At least, that’s how it worked in Redux V8

But for some reason it's HL1 the model, not the fully remastered Black Mesa model.

It sucks that it's not as common anymore, maybe it's just rose-tinted glasses talking but it seems like games were way more about goofy bombastic fun back in the late 90's-early 2000's, and now it seems the focus is more on gritty realism. Not saying that "bwrah all games suck now" but goofy crazy fun was... Fun.

The Golden Magnum was in Perfect Dark, actually (the DY357-LX). Goldeneye 64 did have the Cougar Magnum, but it was silver in color. The Golden Gun from that game though, was just a makeshift weapon comprised of random everyday objects (pen, cigarette lighter, etc.)

To this day, smod and it's cousins are some of my favorite mods
This made me think of how cool an ULTRAKILL in Half-Life 2 mod would be. Imagine playing Half-Life 2 and mowing down enemies with explosives and ricocheting bullets. In normal Half-Life 2, a room full of enemies would have to be strategically approached. In an ULTRAKILL mod, you could finish the chapter in the time it takes a normal player to finish one room.

SMOD's great. My favorite version is SMOD Outbreak, with Tactical coming second. I always liked what they did in making the old campaign feel fresh again. I recommend giving both a try.
Mine is SMOD ELITE, due to the amount of settings (although some keybinds are missing, but you can add them via config files)

The Combine Assassins you mentioned were originally in HL2 Beta which were based of the Black ops ones.
This looks like it's the mod i was allways looking for - more enemys to shoot, more weapons to shot them with and more shooting to shoot.

Ah, the Pancor Jackhammer. A gun that basically only exists in video games, outside of one or two prototypes (it never went into production). Ian over at Forgotten Weapons did a really good video on it, it's interesting how it's become a video game staple despite being a gun that never left prototype!
Things not mentioned: shovel propelled flight. Kicking the airboat handlebars makes you airborne (possibly unintentional, doesn't work in latest version). Your crew is affected by friendly fire and may turn against you if you shoot them. The shovel has a push forward chopping feature. Laser gun can destroy even the indestructible game essential aircrafts or striders which may crash the game. Gman can be killed. Dead bodies can be crushed and chunks of meat eaten to gain health. Etc...

In 2020, you'll need to alter your Library filter (at the top of the left hand of your Library view), it might just say 'GAMES' with an upside down ^.
Click 'GAMES' to expand and check and check 'TOOLS'. Now you'll see all the extra crap you can install including the Source SDK packages.
I also had to create my Sourcemods folder.
I like the idea that some members of the combine switched sides during the city 17 raid, donning the symbol of black Mesa as they abandon the combine for to join the rebels

The Jackhammer shotgun is funny to me because IRL this gun only existed as two prototypes that never went anywhere. Technically it isn't a real gun, but its design and purpose launched it into infamy with movies and video games
the stop/slow time feature coupled with Mmod should be the game insanly fun and still keep the original feel.
I remember play this mod. The "this is sparta" kick was super fun to use. Shotgun in slowmotion all the way !

SMOD is basically if you mix Half - Life 2 Overcharged with Half - Life 2 MMod and Crack - Life 2 altogether and will make SMOD.
Overcharged is basically just a worse Smod
