You have no idea how much of a relief it was to find someone plusize into sewing and costuming. While Bernadette Banner and Morgan Donner are absolutely brilliant people, I've always wonder how to accomodate garments to my size as a beginning seamstress. Enchanted Rose Costumes and Costuming Drama are alson great for that and all of you are and godsend. So thank you for putting content outthere even if it's scary. (Also, Freya looks fantastic and I may try to do a dressform like that one day)

@@londoncherieback2206 I have started collecting patterns from the main companies, but have been learning how to make them actually fit me, will take way more math than I am used to, which is ironic because my mother actually wrote math text books and made her own clothes for much of her life, including almost everything the bridal party wore when my parents got married. She made the guys buy pants, but she did everything else while doing graduate work. Lol, I barely got the alterations to my own dress done the night before my wedding!

I made one using the duck tape system, but it was both hard to put a pin in and pins came out sticky, LOL. Since I lost weight this year, I needed a new one, so I'm taping up my bootstrap pattern as i write this. I feel bad replacing my me#2, and have been giving her hugs every time I pass by her. Both because she served me well and because I want to reinforce that I love myself no matter my size. My husband, who feeds us, went keto and we started watching Dr. Ken Berry, who is a lot of fun to learn from. Only mentioning it because I'm 60 years old and wish I knew it was actually possible to break my carb addiction and fix my lifelong IBS. But seriously, give Freya a hug! She is beautiful :) Oh dear, I just noticed I actually commented 2cyears ago!

However, I picked up a dress form just like you did at a yard sale for $8. Hubby and I discussed using it as the "insides" of my form, but I said, "no, I am a stick to the pattern, gal". Guess what? Seeing your success with the hard dress form as the interior, I am going that route. I will try to post pics when completed. Freya is stunning! I am still afraid to start my own dress form. Bought the pattern, the fabric and all. Just haven't started yet.

Great video, your new dress form looks great.
She reminds me of old ancient female statues of gods. They were probably all plus size back then

Thank you for sharing this video. Freya is beautiful, and I hope she helps you to make some beautiful draped fashions for yourself! I think it was a great idea to use a smaller, inexpensive dress form for Freya's core. 😀

I’ve been contemplating making one of these Bootstrap forms for a long time. In fact I’ve already purchased the pattern and the base fabric. It was good to see how it comes together. I’ve got to get the rest of the support materials and then I can start. In my very limited experience of trying to self draft a pattern based on an existing garment and fit it to myself, with only my kids to help me, I figured out that to do much sewing for myself, I was going to need a dress form. I’m hoping mine matches me as well as yours matches you.
It is encouraging to see your efforts and I appreciate your vulnerability to help us out in our sewing adventures. Your dress form looks great and I bet it will be a huge asset to you.
Edited to add: I can’t believe you’re 40! I’m 44 and I thought you were at least 10 years younger than me.

I loved this video. I selected it because it was plus-size, but I understand feeling vulnerable. I had a plus size dress form made from duct tape and seeing it without "clothes" was very uncomfortable for me. Totally relate. I love the idea of using an existing form for the internals. That might just get me over the hump of being intimidated to finally make my bootstrap dress form.

Love the dramatic music choice and the appearance of tiny kitty feet by the sewing machine. XD This still seems like a very intimidating project for a beginner but it's nice to know this will work for a plus size mannequin as well. Thank you for making this video!

As a big woman myself, I could so fully relate to the whole experience and emotions that played out in this whole clip. I could sense the dread and apprehension WITH you, in laying everything so bare, in front of a wide audience, who could use their anonymity to lash out cruel remarks, if they so wished. I could sense the anxiety in me build up throughout the stitching together, and finally filling up, of Freya. And....Voila! You did it!! The initial "shock" or disappointment, if you like, at seeing a dress form totally in contrast to what our preconceived minds are accustomed to, waned into relief, and the realisation that the shape that emerged, was as REAL as could be! The shape of a woman who hopefully lives life to the full. Maybe indulging a little bit too much here and there, but hey, also a woman who definitely exudes fun, warmth and compassion. What was so interesting to me, was that the longer I stared at Freya, summing up her features, the more she became REAL and someone I could fully relate to. The choice of fabric was spot on, too, adding to the overall soft, approachable vibe. You go, Girl!

Thank you for putting yourself out in these interwebs. I have been apprehesive about sewing this dress form. But, by the same token I have agonized in making clothes for myself because of not having a dress form AND not wanting to put on and take off garments repeatedly.
