It's a theatrical sport, or is that not obvious enough? It's not always about the technical difficulty, artistry has always been part of the final score. Your costume is an extension of that. I don't think anyone really believes that a costume is going to make or break a gold medal score, but think of the psychological impact it must have putting on the costume and make up, like putting on a mask or armor, it mentally prepares you for the competition.
They put Javier's costume when talking about weird costumes lol. I personally think it's cute
Javier's costume is for one of his shows for the special galas that there are at the end of the championships and they are galas of entertainment and exhibition by the artistic skaters and that show in particular of Javi is super incredible, super entertaining, super wonderful and Javi is a hilarious SuperJavi, that costume of SuperJavi is not for his programs in the championships, so these people are stupid to add those images because Javi usually dress very simple and very elegant at the same time and dressed like this, his talent and work hard then is the way he has won all his competitions and it is the way he has become a figure skating legend.

There are so many factual errors in this I don’t even know where to begin 😒 1- rhinestones are not all sewn on. I’d say at least 80% of them are glued on. If you were sewing on 10,000 rhinestones it would take MUCH longer than 40 hours 2- Sarah Hughes didn’t wear the cat suit for the Olympics at ALL. It was her exhibition costume for a completely different program. Unitards for competition were banned until 2004 due to the “Katarina rule” so for her to skate at the Olympics 2 years before that rule was lifted would have eliminated her chances at gold. 3-it’s pretty much standard now to have beautiful costumes, so saying the person that won’s costume was what helped them win gold is completely detracting from the hard work they put in for their whole life.
Was really hoping this “official” channel would actually help promote this sport instead of seemingly “affirming” that’s it’s all about pretty dresses 😡

Rhinestones are not the same thing as crystals, if I understand correctly he is referencing swarovski crystals and they would absolutely need to be sewn on.
PowerToolsofJustice Some of them yes. But Swarovski makes adhesive crystals and flat-backs that are 100% intended to be glued on. Those are generally the smaller crystals and the larger ones are usually flat-backs that need stitched on. And on a skating dress generally it’s 80-20 glue-on vs stitch-on

... The question wasn't even answered. There was no actual evidence the costumes do anything. I've been asking myself the same question since most other sports have a less artistic attire than figure skating. But I am still wondering. The facts you stated are a nice-to-know, but not really debating the question

costume is part of the performance, it should be in line with the theme and music chosen by the performer to get the maximum score, if you don't believe it matter, why nobody use more comfortable clothes like jersey, it's warmer and they could perform better in it, just like when they are training
it's like ballroom dancing, you wouldn't use standard attire to perform in latin category
I would say not particularly. Take Javier Fernandez for example - he won Worlds twice, and didn't wear sparkles or anything particularly fancy, especially compared to Yuzuru Hanyu, his main rival. So I feel like the most important thing when it comes to costumes is that it fits the music and the skater, not that it is fancy. Costumes aren't counted in PCS, I don't think, so they couldn't weigh in on points. Correct me if I'm wrong, please!

the isu tried really hard to push the Russian "queens" down our throats. Didn't work in the end. There's only the Queen and Kween.
There's much more skaters that are better than Yuna Kim. Just look at Alina Zagitova or Mirai Nagasu.

Fancy costumes shouldn't help skaters win, and skaters shouldn't wear fancy costumes in an attempt to influence judges. Outfits ought to fit the music, and not distract from the performance. If the music calls for fancy, go ahead and wear fancy. If it calls for simplicity, go for that. For best effect, the outfits also should stay ON.

Let me just clarify that the crystals are never sewn on. They are almost always if not 100% if the time glued on.

olympic copyrights it, I've just watched one on the other day and the nest day it gets taken down. But he's performed it before in other competitions, just look up seimei

Christ, if I were a figure skating judge, I would automatically disqualify anyone who chooses Gangnam Style.
If you were a figure skating judge, you would know that you alone CANNOT disqualify anybody based on their choice of music. You are not there to judge based on your personal taste in music, you are there to judge how the selected music has been interpreted (among other things). Btw, you should really learn to distinguish between competition programs and gala/exhibition shows

Interesante pregunta, aunque la respuesta no me ha quedado muy clara...supongo que es para cada quien lo suyo... veo el contraste de Nathan Chen quien ultimamente sus trajes son tan limples y sobrios y me encanta esa sencillez de él al mismo tiempo que me hace enfocarme más en su actuación que en un traje de luces y plumas.
